Yi Mu had no idea how He Lele had gotten through that difficult night alone; she must have felt so desperate.
He didn't want to delve any further into whether her relationship with Yu Min was a voluntary affair or one she was forced into.
Yi Mu now had only one thought: Yu Min must be punished as he deserved it.
He composed himself and waited for the policeman to return. He then told him Yu Min's current whereabouts and specifically mentioned Yu Min's intention to traffic drugs.
Yu Min is already suspected of intimidation and threats, gambling, and attempted drug trafficking. With all these crimes combined, he should at least be sentenced to life imprisonment.
What started as a simple suicide case has become a complex drug trafficking case, and the police department is taking it very seriously.
They didn't intend to alert Yu Min; they wanted to see through his supply channels and, ideally, uncover the big fish behind him.
Yi Mu went to He Lele's house.
In a cramped alleyway in an urban village, a dozen or so wreaths were placed on both sides of the passageway. He Lele's mother, dressed in hemp clothing, knelt in front of the mourning hall, crying uncontrollably.
When Yi Mu arrived at the mourning hall, he offered a stick of incense to He Lele.
He was a new face, and too eye-catching; his relatives glanced at him several times.
Yi Mu walked up to He's mother and took out a card to give to her.
Faced with the woman's bewildered expression, Yi Mu first offered his condolences, then told her that the card was left with him by He Lele before her death, and the password was He Lele's birthday.
Yi Mu gave Kari five million, enough for He's mother to live on for the rest of her life.
Lou Xijue's car was parked outside the alley. Yi Mu walked out of the alley and got into the car.
After he fastened his seatbelt, he turned to look at Lou Xijue and said, "Give me a cigarette."
Lou Xijue found it unbelievable; Yi Mu hated the smell of smoke the most, and he suspected he had misheard.
"I'm upset." Yi Mu ran his fingers through his hair.
His mind was filled with the image of He's mother wailing, while He Lele's portrait in the mourning hall was incredibly radiant.
That was He Lele at eighteen, the most innocent and carefree age. Her future should have been colorful, but it stopped at twenty-one.
Lou Xijue lit one for Yi Mu with a lighter.
During this time, he remained indifferent, watching as Yi Mu collected evidence for the police, and his confidence grew stronger.
Did you ever love her?
Since he had to go through this anyway, Lou Xijue hardened his heart and held the knife to his own heart.
Yi Mu didn't speak. He awkwardly puffed on his cigarette, coughed several times, and finally finished it before speaking in a hoarse voice: "She's like a little sun, bringing me a lot of joy. My feelings for her aren't what you imagine."
The knife tip moved slightly, and Lou Xijue tentatively asked, "Friend?"
Yi Mu forced an awkward smile: "Friendship comes first. Romance is not yet complete."
Lou Xijue nodded. As long as it wasn't taken to heart, it wasn't a threat.
If He Lele were still alive, Lou Xijue would have a million ways to sabotage her relationship with Yi Mu.
But she's dead, and the living can't argue too much with the dead.
Lou Xijue drove the car out and asked Yi Mu what his plans were for the summer vacation.
Yi Mu said, "I need to see Yu Min go to jail first."
Yu Min may have had the fearless spirit of a desperado at heart. Half a month later, he obtained a batch of goods, mixed them into cigarettes, and distributed them to the people in the casino for free.
Once the people in the casino were addicted, he began to sell it on a large scale.
The police sent people to follow him and quickly identified his supplier.
In August, the city dismantled an entire drug trafficking network, as well as a hidden casino.
Yu Min was sentenced to death for drug trafficking, gambling, and alleged threats and intimidation that led to the death of a victim.
On the day he was executed, Yi Mu laid a bouquet of flowers at He Lele's grave, knowing that she could finally rest in peace.
