Chapter 143 I Love You

Blood trickled down her lip, and a smile appeared on her pale face as Xia Linyin uttered those three words.

"I love you."

Her voice wasn't loud, but it struck Xiao Li's heart like the tolling of an ancient bell, echoing in his chest.

Xiao Li's hand, which was covering Xia Linyin's wound, trembled uncontrollably. He never imagined that he would hear those three words from Xia Linyin's mouth.

"I'm sorry... I'm sorry, sister." He lowered his head, choking back tears like a child admitting his mistake.

Xiao Li's love is selfish yet insecure, like a thick, strong vine tightly binding the other person, not allowing them any chance to break free or refuse, leaving them only able to passively accept everything he gives. Therefore, deep down, he is actually very afraid of receiving a lifeless response from the other person.

He didn't know what love was; all he knew was that he wanted Xia Linyin, that Xia Linyin was his, and that she had to be his!

Regardless of life or death, he and Xia Linyin would be together. He would not live on alone if Xia Linyin died, nor would he leave Xia Linyin alone in the world. Even as a ghost, he would haunt Xia Linyin.

Xia Linyin's love, however, is tolerant and gentle. It is not intense, but it gathers little by little, slowly fermenting into a burning temperature. Only when it erupts can people feel the power it contains.

Just as a single blade of grass is not as resilient as a thick vine, but when blades of grass are twisted together, no one can say that they are less resilient than a vine.

"If only one of us can live, I hope it's you."

Xia Linyin hooked her arm around Xiao Li's neck and whispered against his lips, "Xiao Li, live on, you must live on!"

Tears streamed down her face, her voice pleading, "Live to avenge me, destroy this game. You can do it, I believe you can."

After giving Xiao Li a final, lingering kiss on her soft lips, Xia Linyin suddenly said, "Hey, Xia Linyin, are you willing to make a bet with yourself?"

Xiao Li was startled and pulled Xia Linyin's arm off his neck. When he saw the dice cup in Xia Linyin's hand, he swung his hand and knocked the dice cup away.

"I do." Xia Linyin parted her red lips slightly, and as soon as she finished speaking, the dice cup flew out and spun rapidly in mid-air, the dice hitting the cup with a crisp sound.

Xiao Li picked up the crescent-shaped blade, swung it, and a sharp blade flashed, splitting the spinning black dice cup in two.

The dice cup pattern on Xia Linyin's wrist disappeared, and as if she had suffered a severe backlash, she suddenly spat out a mouthful of blood.

The light in her eyes quickly dimmed, and she managed to utter a few words with difficulty, "Live...up..."

Xia Linyin slowly closed her eyes. The blue threads in Xiao Li's palm desperately tried to penetrate Xia Linyin's body, but they couldn't stop Xia Linyin's life force from draining away.

As Xiao Li sensed Xia Linyin's breath growing weaker and weaker, like an oil lamp flickering and about to go out, a huge sense of panic overwhelmed her.

Why? Why is this happening?

It turns out that seeing your loved one die in front of you is such a painful thing!

"ah--"

A heart-wrenching sound pierced the void, and the energy sphere suddenly exploded, whipping up a massive storm!

A black vortex appeared overhead, growing larger and larger, like a black hole capable of swallowing everything.

Xiao Li stood up, holding Xia Linyin, looked up at the vortex, and forcefully threw Xia Linyin into it.

Xia Linyin was completely swallowed by the vortex one second before she breathed her last.

At the same time, her body appeared out of thin air on the Simmons bed in the villa.

The wounds and bloodstains on his body disappeared completely, and his faint breathing gradually became steady, even, and long.

——

In the spotless laboratory, rows of sophisticated instruments gleamed with blue light, and lab technicians in white lab coats bustled about.

Rows of gleaming metal tables were set up with translucent, ultra-thin computers. In front of each computer sat an experimenter, whose fingers rapidly tapped on the metal tabletops, causing the touchscreen characters to flash continuously.

Everyone had a serious expression on their face, as if they were on high alert for something.

Suddenly, one of the researchers shouted excitedly, "Doctor, I've found its vulnerability!"

The young man in the wrinkled white coat strode to the lab technician's side. On the computer screen, a massive stream of data poured down like a waterfall, dazzling the viewer.

The boy pushed up his black-rimmed glasses and smiled, "Finally found it!"

He patted the lab technician on the shoulder and coldly gave the order, "Fix it!"

"Yes, Doctor!" The experimenter's fingers flew across the desktop, typing characters, and the data on the computer changed with his movements.

Sweat beaded on his nose as he moved faster and faster. Before he knew it, a group of lab staff had gathered behind him.

Sweat streamed down his face. Finally, he typed the last character and slowly let out a breath. "Done! Doctor!"

A burst of cheers and applause erupted in the lab. Pushing up his black-rimmed glasses, the boy glanced around, and the onlookers scattered back to their seats. The noise subsided, and the boy said, "Keep an eye on the surveillance!"

"Yes, Doctor!" came the unanimous reply.
