"Xia Linyin, I'm sorry... I failed."
Su Yu has rarely failed throughout his life, almost never. But now, he has failed; he has failed to keep his promise to Xia Linyin.
For the proud Su Yu, admitting his defeat was neither easy nor difficult.
What's easy is that he can face his failure honestly and tell Xia Linyin clearly that he failed, without making any excuses for himself.
The difficulty lies in his inability to tolerate his failures, for failure is a stain on his record, and he cannot bear such a stain. However, he is now destined to leave an imperfect mark on his life.
"What's the meaning?"
Xia Linyin swallowed hard. She felt as if her heart was being tied to a heavy iron ball, sinking deeper and deeper. A nameless sense of panic enveloped her, making her afraid that her heart would sink into the abyss.
Su Yu only cared that his life would be left with an imperfect mark, but now, when he met Xia Linyin's gaze, he actually felt like he wanted to run away in panic. This was really ridiculous!
"The data encountered a problem when loading into the chip and failed to be transmitted successfully. The original data in the game was also garbled, and a large part of it was lost."
"The reason he is different is because he has developed self-awareness. Even though we tried every means to repair him, we never succeeded. He always regains his memories, understands who he is, and knows that he is an NPC in a game who has been assigned different identities and plays different roles."
"Now, his self-awareness has dissipated. If he is a person, and people have souls, then his current situation is that his physical body is damaged and his soul has disappeared."
Shifting his gaze from Xia Linyin's face, Su Yu said in a low voice, "I've said before that I can't guarantee 100% success."
Xia Linyin stared blankly at Su Yu, her head buzzing as if she had been hit hard with a club, unable to accurately understand Su Yu's words. She was like a fool, and after a long while, she finally opened and closed her mouth and asked, "How could it fail?"
The voice sounded blank, like that of a homeless child.
“Perhaps…” Su Yu said, “it’s because I’ve never understood how it came about.”
Failure is due to a lack of understanding of the reasons behind it.
Xia Linyin's lips trembled, and hot tears welled up in her eyes. She slowly stood up from the stool, but her body swayed and she almost fell.
The buzzing in her ears grew louder, her face drained of all color, turning a frighteningly pale white, and her vision blurred in waves. Xia Linyin nodded, "Oh, I understand."
Her love is gone...
Her love is gone...
Her love is gone...
Xia Linyin turned and walked towards the door. She had just taken one step when she felt dizzy and fell straight to the ground.
...
When Xia Linyin woke up, she was lying in a hospital bed with Su Jinyan lying beside her. Su Jinyan had fair skin, delicate profile, and long, raven-feather-like eyelashes covering her eyelids.
Warm light shone on him, coating him with a hazy halo, outlining a beauty that one couldn't bear to disturb.
Xia Linyin pulled her hand away from Su Jinyan's grasp. Su Jinyan subconsciously tightened his grip, opened his eyes, and saw that Xia Linyin was awake. A look of surprise flashed in his eyes, and he said softly, "You're awake."
Xia Linyin slowly moved her gaze to the top of her head, like a person on the verge of death, her eyes having lost all their light.
Despite possessing such a young and strong body, he gave off an air of being old and frail, his aged soul exuding an aura of decay.
"I knew it all along, but I was still unwilling to accept it and couldn't keep asking for more."
Her voice was hoarse and ethereal, "It made me happy for nothing."
Xia Linyin raised her hand to cover her eyes, tears streaming down her face and disappearing into her hair. "He's an NPC, I'm a human, how can we be together?"
Su Jinyan's heart clenched painfully at that moment. The agonizing pain twisted his handsome features in an instant, and a gloomy look surged deep in his eyes, making them as dark and unfathomable as ink.
He had never felt so jealous, envious, and hateful of that man as he did now.
However, Su Jinyan quickly suppressed her emotions and held Xia Linyin's hand gently but firmly, saying, "I will always be with you."
Su Jinyan didn't say the rest—
Lin Yin, I'm willing to stay by your side forever, until the day you forget him.
Even if this day takes ten, twenty, thirty years, or even a lifetime.
I am willing to spend the rest of my life waiting for you.
Su Jinyan made a bowl of porridge that looked and smelled delicious. Fresh green vegetables were sprinkled on top of the thick and smooth white porridge, making it look so appetizing that it would whet one's appetite.
The subtle, sweet aroma of the porridge is so enticing that it makes one's mouth water.
Su Jinyan scooped a spoonful of porridge and held it to Xia Linyin's lips. Xia Linyin shook her head and stared blankly at the top of her head.
"Well... eat it when you want to." Su Jinyan placed the porridge on the table next to her.
The porridge had been left to cool down, but Xia Linyin hadn't touched it. Su Jinyan made another bowl, but Xia Linyin still didn't eat it.
She lay on the hospital bed with a blank expression, motionless like a doll.
Su Jinyan understood that Xia Linyin was going on a hunger strike and was waiting to die.
For a man—no, just for a string of data! A virtual character that doesn't even exist!
Su Jinyan took a deep breath and began chopping vegetables. His knife skills were superb, cutting each vegetable into the same size. Su Jinyan then carefully cooked another bowl of fresh porridge.
Carrying the vegetable porridge to the bedside, Su Jinyan placed the bowl on the table, then bent down to pick up Xia Linyin, sat down and placed Xia Linyin on his lap. Su Jinyan picked up the bowl on the table, took a sip of porridge, pinched Xia Linyin's chin, and lowered his head to press down.
He performed this series of movements in one go, as if he had practiced it a thousand times, even though it was only done once.
It wasn't until Su Jinyan covered her mouth that Xia Linyin realized what was happening, and she shook her head and struggled.
He restrained Xia Linyin's body, ignoring her fierce struggles, until he fed her all the porridge in his mouth and forced her to swallow it before he released her.
"Smack!"
A crisp and loud slap echoed in the room.
Su Jinyan tilted his head slightly, a few strands of his bangs hanging down messily. Xia Linyin's slap was extremely hard, and a handprint immediately appeared on his fair and handsome face, which was very conspicuous.
A trickle of bright red blood even spilled from the corner of his mouth.
Licking his lips and taking in the pungent taste of blood, Su Jinyan reached out and picked up the porridge, his voice still gentle, "If you don't want me to feed you this way, then eat the porridge."
