Su Jinyan held Xia Linyin's thin, delicate hand, which seemed so fragile it could break at the slightest touch. Gazing at Xia Linyin's pale face with her eyes closed, he seemed to be speaking to her, or perhaps telling himself, "Linyin, you will get better."
The smell in the ward was always unpleasant, as if it were filled with the breath of death. Su Jinyan bought a few bouquets of lilies and placed the vase with the lilies on the bedside table.
The faint fragrance of lilies wafted in the air, and Xia Linyin turned to look at the lilies by her bedside.
Seeing that Xia Linyin was staring at Baihe, Su Jinyan reached out and brushed the stray hairs from her face behind her ear, asking, "Don't you like it?"
“I like it,” Xia Linyin said, a hint of nostalgia flashing in her eyes, “but I prefer roses.”
"Then I'll bring some roses over tomorrow," Su Jinyan said gently.
When he walked into the ward the next day with a large bouquet of roses, the unusually quiet atmosphere made him pause.
As if sensing something, Su Jinyan slowly walked towards the hospital bed. He placed the bouquet of beautifully blooming roses on the bedside table, fiddled with the flowers, and said, "Linyin, wake up quickly. Look, I bought you a lot of roses."
In the silent hospital room, no sound responded to him...
After gazing at the rose for a long time, Su Jinyan finally turned her attention to the hospital bed beside her, where Xia Linyin's face looked as peaceful as if she were asleep.
His gaze followed Xia Linyin's arm to the note she was holding in her hand, and he pulled it out—
"Su Jinyan, you're so wonderful, why do you like me?"
"I'm sorry, please be careful what you say."
Su Jinyan looked at the note and chuckled softly, a hint of sorrow in her voice, "Linyin, oh Linyin..."
So many people in this world get divorced and remarried. He thought that time could take away all vows of eternal love and heal all wounds. He believed that one day he would be able to open Xia Linyin's heart and make her accept him.
She was willing to give herself to him, lean on his chest, and enjoy the warmth and support he gave her.
But only now does Su Jinyan realize that in the previous round of the game, if it weren't for revenge, there wouldn't have been any of that fake tenderness.
He was a persistent person, but he just happened to meet someone who was equally persistent.
Su Jinyan logged out of the game, poured himself a glass of wine, and hid in the dim light of the room.
He leaned against the wall, looking at the screen flashing lights not far away, sipping his drink, the dark shadows casting an inscrutable shadow on his face.
Su Jinyan closed his eyes. He didn't know how long he had been standing there. Finally, he opened his eyes and drank the last bit of wine in his glass in one gulp.
Su Jinyan placed the wine glass on the table, picked up the helmet, and entered the game once again.
