Chapter 258 Step by Step 3

Mo Li lowered his head and shook it like a rattle drum. Xia Linyin grabbed his arm. "No, you have to come with me. At least we need to apply some medicine and put on a band-aid."

Mo Li suddenly flung Xia Linyin's hand away with a bit too much force. Looking at Xia Linyin's astonished face, he opened his mouth as if he wanted to apologize but didn't know how. Then he turned and ran away.

"Lin Yin, why are you bothering with him? I've already said he has personality problems." Zhou Xiaoyun walked over and said, "Lin Yin, why are you bothering with him? I've already said he has personality issues."

The boy who bumped into Mo Li also tried to come forward and talk to her, but Xia Linyin glared at him coldly, and he stopped in his tracks.

After realizing what had happened, the boy's face turned bright red; he had actually been frightened by a girl's gaze.

...

Xia Linyin's life at the new school gradually got on track. She became familiar with her new teachers and classmates, and went to and from school every day in a routine manner.

A month later, when it was time to switch groups, the fourth group would move to the first group's location, and the people in the first group would move to the second group.

The people in the second group moved to the third group, and the people in the third group moved to the fourth group.

While everyone was switching groups, Mo Li also dragged her own unchanging table.

Zhou Xiaoyun, who was carrying the table with Xia Linyin, almost popped her eyes out when she saw Mo Li moving the table. "Linyin, look, look!"

She gestured with her eyes to Mo Li, who was moving a table, "Seriously? He's coming to sit with us too?"

Xia Linyin blinked in confusion, "What's wrong? Aren't we all supposed to switch groups?"

"No, no! Every time the groups change, Mo Li never changes. He just stays in the innermost spot, like an old turtle that hasn't moved for a thousand years," Zhou Xiaoyun said, shaking her head.

She whispered to Xia Linyin, "Luckily he's been washing his hair lately, otherwise I really couldn't stand his smell. I thought I could get away from him by changing groups, but I didn't expect him to follow me here."

Zhou Xiaoyun raised an eyebrow at Xia Linyin in a suggestive way, "He definitely likes you. Since you came, his hair isn't greasy anymore, and his clothes aren't dirty. I even saw him secretly looking in the mirror last time."

"He's really bold to like you, and he's not afraid of getting beaten up, since there's a line of guys who like you that stretches from one end of the line to the other."

There were indeed quite a few boys who liked her, but Xia Linyin remained completely unmoved by the love letters, gifts, and confessions she received.

However, when Zhou Xiaoyun mentioned that Mo Li liked her, Xia Linyin blushed for no apparent reason.

Zhou Xiaoyun didn't notice the blush that appeared on Xia Linyin's fair face. She exclaimed, "This is the seat right by the entrance. People come and go during get out of class. Mo Li really went all out for you. He even dared to sit in this seat. True love!"

Although she said that, Zhou Xiaoyun was not envious at all. She even felt a little sorry for Xia Linyin. Being liked by Mo Li was as disgusting as being liked by a fly.

And judging from the current situation, Mo Li is sticking to Xia Linyin like glue.

No, calling him a piece of chewing gum is too kind; he'd be more like someone with psoriasis.

After changing groups, Xia Linyin sat down and took out her Chinese textbook, ready to start class, when she discovered that the sycamore leaf tucked inside the textbook was missing.

She shook her textbook and asked in confusion, "Huh? Where's the leaf I put in the textbook?"

Mo Li turned her head and looked at Xia Linyin, who was searching the ground, and asked, "Is that leaf important to you?"

Her slightly hoarse voice was very soft, always carrying a hint of insecurity.

Xia Linyin looked up, and as she looked at him, Mo Li quickly looked away from her face and back at the ground.

Xia Linyin had gotten used to Mo Li's habit of never daring to look her in the eye when he spoke to her.

"It's not that important, I just can't find it right now." Xia Linyin waved her hand. "Oh well, if it's lost, it's lost."

Anyway, I just picked them up because they looked nice by the roadside, so I'll just go and pick up a few more later.

Mo Li turned his head back. He rarely spoke, except for Xia Linyin, with whom he only exchanged a few words every few days. He hadn't spoken a single word to any of his other classmates.

The teacher knew his personality and wouldn't call on him to answer questions. Most of the time, he was like a transparent person, with no presence in the class.

When Mo Li got home from school in the evening, the first thing she did was put down her schoolbag, run to the outdoor tap in front of her house, turn on the tap, wet her hair, lather it with cheap laundry soap, and then wash her hair.

Fortunately, it's already June, and I'm used to showering with cold water directly on my head so I won't catch a cold.

It was called Mo Li's home, but it was actually the cheapest kind of low-rent housing. The building was low and cramped, and the exterior walls were painted with large "demolish" characters.

The roof was also covered with bricks and plastic sheeting to prevent leaks during rainy days.

In front of the door was a stinking ditch, emitting a strong, nauseating stench.

But the people who live here have gotten used to it, just as they've gotten used to the dim lighting inside the houses.

When Mo's father came home drunk and saw the throbbing figure under the tap, he angrily smashed his beer bottle at Mo Li, yelling, "Damn it! Another hair wash! Is water free?!"

Mo's father, who was unsteady on his feet, had poor aim. He smashed a beer bottle against the wall, which shattered into pieces with a loud crack.

"You're always washing your hair, you son of a bitch! I'll beat you to death today, you filthy bastard!"

Mo Li hastily rinsed the foam off her head and slipped into the house like a slippery eel before her father rushed over. She then slammed the door shut and locked it with a click.
