Chapter 270 Step by Step 15

Xia Linyin felt as if a knife had been slashed across her heart. If she was already like this, how heartbroken her mother must be!

"Dad! Stop bringing up Grandpa and Grandma! You want a boy yourself, don't you?"

"This is cheating! This is betrayal! How can you face your mother?"

"Where was that woman when your mother was suffering alongside you? Now that life is better, she's all clinging to you!"

"Do you think that woman likes you? She's only after your money!"

"Dad! Wake up! Are you really going to divorce Mom for that woman?"

Xia Jianguo was embarrassed by Xia Linyin's questioning, and he stammered, "She's pregnant."

"Pregnant! Pregnant! Even if she's carrying Nezha, she has to abort it! As long as I'm alive, she won't be allowed to set foot in this house!" Xia Linyin threatened.

Xia Jianguo was startled by her cold and stern demeanor, which he had never seen before. After realizing what was happening, he became angry and said in a cold and hard tone, "Your mother and I have no feelings for each other anymore. You're all grown up now, so don't interfere in our affairs."

Sensing her mother stiffen when Xia Jianguo said he had no feelings for her, Xia Linyin tried to comfort her mother while yelling at her father, "Dad, have you lost your conscience?!"

"You—" Xia Jianguo raised his hand in anger, but looking at his daughter whom he had doted on since childhood, he couldn't bring himself to hit her. He pointed to the door, "Get out! Get out of here! Your mother and I are none of your business!"

Xia Linyin's eyes widened, she trembled with anger, but her heart was ice-cold. Her father was telling her to get out.

Xia Jianguo roared, "Get out of here!! No matter what, I'm still your father! It's not your place to lecture me!"

Xia Linyin glared at her father with hatred. Xia's mother was terrified by the tense atmosphere between the two. Forgetting about crying, she was afraid that Xia Jianguo would really get angry and hit Xia Linyin. She quickly pushed Xia Linyin and said, "Yinyin, you go out first!"

Xia Linyin wiped away her tears and rushed out of the house.

I ran a very, very long way until I couldn't run anymore and then I stopped.

She wandered aimlessly through the streets, eventually sitting down on a bench by the door of a coffee shop.

A light rain began to fall from the sky. Xia Linyin sat on the chair with her hands and feet ice-cold, but her heart was even colder than her hands and feet.

She once thought that her parents were the best interpretation of love. They supported each other, shared joys and sorrows, and went through thick and thin together. They could endure hardship and enjoy happiness together.

Her father has always been so good to her mother.

She felt that since all other men in the world cheated, her father wouldn't.

But unexpectedly...

It turns out that love really does have an expiration date; you never know when it will spoil.

Men really do turn bad when they get rich.

"Oh--"

Xia Linyin twitched the corners of her mouth and gave a cold laugh, but two lines of tears streamed down her face.

She hugged her arms tightly, letting the drizzle fall on her. Cold! So cold!

The chill that spread from the bottom of my heart was colder than the rain.

Suddenly, a pair of shiny black leather shoes came into view.

Xia Linyin looked at the black leather shoes that had stopped in front of her, and slowly moved her gaze upwards.

Her beautiful eyes, shimmering with mist and light, slowly opened and met a face wearing sunglasses.

The tall man in a suit had one hand in his pocket and the other holding a black umbrella. The blue diamond-encrusted watch on his wrist shimmered with a dreamlike light.

Like his figure, he seemed both real and unreal in the hazy rain and mist.

The man held the umbrella over Xia Linyin's head, shielding her from the drizzling rain.

Even with sunglasses on, his handsomeness couldn't be hidden.

When Xia Linyin saw the man's face, her heart fluttered as if a butterfly had fluttered across it, and she felt a strange flutter in her heart.

"Don't cry." The man's voice was very pleasant and gentle, like a feather brushing against Xia Linyin's eardrums.

The man pulled a handkerchief from his breast pocket, bent down, and gently wiped away Xia Linyin's tears.

Xia Linyin's face flushed instantly. The sudden intimate gesture made her turn her head away uncomfortably.

My heart is beating very fast for no reason.

Who is this person?

She noticed the luxury car behind the man, and it seemed that the man had deliberately gotten out of the car, held an umbrella, and walked up to her.

Xia Linyin couldn't help but think to herself, "Are all rich people this idle these days?"

The man, who was being stared at warily by Xia Linyin, lowered his head and smiled, his beautifully shaped lips curving into a charming arc.

He suddenly raised his hand and unbuttoned the buttons on his chest. His long, jade-like fingers rested on the delicate buttons. Even the act of taking off his clothes was so pleasing to the eye.

Seeing the man preparing to put the clothes on her, Xia Linyin quickly waved her hand and refused, saying, "Thank you, no, no, no... no need."

Because he was so nervous, his voice stammered, which was unusual for him.

The man seemed to have sprayed some perfume on him; the pleasant scent seeped into her pores and enveloped her from all sides, trapping her in the small chair.

Xia Linyin swallowed hard, her palms sweating. Like a trembling young animal in front of a ferocious beast, she desperately shrank back, looking for a chance to escape.

Without a word, he wrapped the suit jacket he had taken off around Xia Linyin's body, and with just one sentence, Xia Linyin forgot to struggle.

Do you like the gift?

The man's deep, magnetic voice carried a faint hint of amusement.

"It's you!" Xia Linyin exclaimed in surprise, her heart pounding even faster, almost leaping out of her throat.

Thinking of the vague sense of familiarity that had lingered in her heart ever since she saw the man, a name came to mind.

"Who are you……"

"Mo Li?" The three words stuck in Xia Linyin's throat, making her feel uncomfortable, but she couldn't utter them. She moved her lips a few times, only managing to utter a broken, incoherent word, "Who?"

Xia Linyin stared at the man's face, unwilling to blink, afraid that the person who had finally appeared in front of her would disappear in the blink of an eye.

"Tomorrow morning at 10 a.m., Peninsula Coffee Shop on Mingyue Road, I'll be waiting for you there."

The man handed the umbrella to Xia Linyin and turned to leave.

Seeing the man preparing to leave, Xia Linyin finally called out, "Are you Mo Li?"

The man paused, but did not turn around. Rain fell on him, his back was straight, and his legs were long and straight. Even just his back view was enough to make one's heart flutter.

He strode out, opened the door, got into the car, and the black sedan drove away in the misty rain.

Xia Linyin held up the umbrella, and the coat she wore still carried the man's scent and warmth.

Back home, the nanny had already prepared dinner. Her mother sat alone at the table, her eyes red and swollen.

Hearing the noise, Xia's mother snapped out of her daze and stood up. "Yinyin, you're back. Your dad went to the company. He was just saying those things in anger. He regretted it after you ran away and sent the driver to look for you."

Seeing her mother still speaking up for her father, Xia Linyin pursed her lips and remained silent.

Xia's mother's gaze fell on the suit jacket draped over Xia Linyin's arm, and she asked, "Whose clothes are these?"
