I like you--
Will you stay here with me...?
The woman's soft voice kept echoing in Wang Ming's mind. This was the first time in his life that a woman had confessed her love to him, especially one as beautiful as her.
Normally, he hears beautiful women calling him a "rogue," a "pervert," or a "wolf." Now, he actually hears a beautiful woman say to him, "I like you."
Wang Ming's heart pounded with excitement, and his ears turned red—a rare sight for him. He swore he had never been this excited, even when watching adult films.
"I...I..." Wang Ming grabbed the woman's slender, white hand, caressed her smooth skin, and gazed at her stunningly beautiful face, unable to contain his excitement.
The fat man stepped on Wang Ming's foot under the table.
"Ouch!" Wang Ming howled in pain.
"What's wrong?" the woman asked with concern.
"No...it's nothing."
After being stepped on by the fat man, Wang Ming's head, which had been dazed by the beauty, finally regained a sliver of reason.
He genuinely wanted to stay with this woman, regardless of who she was, even if she were a female ghost, he would still be willing.
The idea of a love story between a human and a ghost is so romantic.
When he watched "A Chinese Ghost Story", he fantasized about meeting a female ghost as beautiful, kind and innocent as Nie Xiaoqian.
Unfortunately, he is currently a player, while the woman in front of him is an NPC. If this were in reality, he would definitely stay without hesitation to develop an epic romance with this woman.
But now, if he stays with the woman and doesn't enter the Wuhou Tomb, he will definitely be judged by the game as having abandoned the game mission and thus be eliminated.
Wang Ming gazed at the woman with tender affection through his small eyes, his face filled with unbearable grief. It turned out that the greatest distance between humans and ghosts was not the greatest distance between players and NPCs.
"Alright, I'll stay here with you after I finish this delivery."
Wang Ming made an impossible promise to the woman, knowing that he would return to the grand hotel after completing his mission and would never come back to this place.
Wang Ming repeatedly touched the woman's delicate hands, thinking that he would never be able to touch such tender hands again.
"Alright." The woman didn't insist on anything further, smiled faintly, and withdrew her hands from Wang Ming's grasp.
Wang Ming watched with lingering reluctance as the woman's beautiful hands left him.
"Since that's the case, and you all need to hurry, I won't keep you any longer."
The woman turned and went upstairs, then disappeared around the corner, her skirt fluttering like a butterfly in the distance.
Apart from Wang Ming, Xia Linyin and the others left the inn immediately after the woman disappeared.
Wang Ming looked back every few steps toward the corner where the woman had disappeared. When he finally stepped out of the inn, he saw that the once clean and tidy inn had suddenly become dilapidated.
The signboard on the door hung crookedly, and the corner of the wall was covered with cobwebs, on which various insect corpses were stuck.
The ground and tables were covered with a thick layer of dust.
After rubbing his eyes, Wang Ming looked at the table where they had just been sitting. In the broken and dirty plate was a bloody mess.
The blood that overflowed from the plate meandered down the table and dripped onto the floor.
Wang Ming couldn't help but run into the inn and take a look at what was on the plate. Then, a strong feeling of nausea rose in his throat, and Wang Ming vomited up everything he had just eaten.
What he just ate wasn't a delicious roast chicken, but a raw, bloody rat that had been skinned!
Looking at the filth mixed with rat meat on the ground, Wang Ming was so disgusted that he swallowed it all down again.
Wang Ming felt his stomach churning violently, and he vomited so much that he felt like he was about to throw up his internal organs.
Hearing the sounds of vomiting coming from the inn, Xia Linyin felt that she was about to vomit as well. Suppressing the acid reflux rising in her mouth, Xia Linyin ran to an open space to get some fresh air.
After Wang Ming, wiping his mouth and staggering unsteadily, walked out of the inn, the group resumed their journey.
However, Wang Ming was so exhausted from vomiting that he could barely lift a stone, let alone carry a sedan chair.
Xia Linyin temporarily took Wang Ming's place as the sedan chair carrier.
After Xia Linyin and the others left, the dilapidated inn behind them also disappeared.
Wisps of smoke rose from the chimneys, and the low houses were scattered in a pleasing manner, surrounded by green mountains.
A small village appeared before Xia Linyin and her companions.
Upon entering the village, Xia Linyin immediately sensed an unusual and eerie feeling.
It was too quiet, so quiet it was unsettling.
Although white smoke was billowing from the chimneys, every household kept their doors tightly shut, and there wasn't a single pedestrian on the road.
Matchmaker Li knocked on a door. An elderly woman with a hunched back opened it and asked in a hoarse voice, as if scratching sandpaper, "Who is it?"
“Old lady, we are just passing through. It’s getting late. May we ask if we could stay the night?” the matchmaker, Li, asked.
The old man leaned out, his cloudy eyes slightly narrowed, his gaze sweeping over the sedan chair and paper figures. Seeing this wedding scene, he showed no fear or surprise, but calmly waved his hand, saying, "My house is too small to fit the bride's sedan chair. You should go to the village chief's house; his house is big enough to accommodate several sedan chairs."
"Okay, thank you, old lady." After thanking the old woman, Matchmaker Li said, "Let's continue on our way to the village chief's house."
It felt like a heavy stone was pressing on her shoulders; Xia Linyin felt like her shoulders no longer belonged to her. She managed to squeeze out a sentence through her teeth, "Matchmaker Li, was that old man a human or a ghost?"
