"I want to tell you I love you, and then betray you when you're happiest, poison you, and kill you with Yin Yichen and the others, to tell you that I hate you, fear you, and despise you, but I've never loved you. If I could go back to the time at Wuhou Tomb, I would definitely choose to abandon you without hesitation."
"The greatest sorrow is a broken heart. That way, you won't come looking for me anymore."
The man suddenly chuckled softly, and Xia Linyin woke up at the sound of his deep laughter. After realizing what she had just said, Xia Linyin's face turned green.
"Yin'er, you're so adorably silly, trying to make me leave you this way."
The man looked down at Xia Linyin, a powerful aura of evil emanating from him. His eyes seemed to flow with hellish blood, sending chills down one's spine.
"Dr. Li..." Xia Linyin was almost suffocating from the evil aura emanating from the man, which seemed to be turning into a tangible substance.
"If I make Yin'er into a specimen, Yin'er will be by my side forever. I can be with Yin'er all the time, touching Yin'er, kissing Yin'er..."
A bloodthirsty smile appeared on the man's handsome face, and a sharp scalpel materialized out of thin air in his hand.
A cold glint flashed, and the man gripped the scalpel, plunging it towards Xia Linyin's neck!
Holy crap! Dr. Li really kills people without warning!
Xia Linyin's eyes widened, and she quickly turned her head to dodge the man's attack.
The man looked at Xia Linyin with a tender gaze that sent chills down her spine. "Don't worry, Yin'er, it won't hurt. How could I bear to let Yin'er suffer?"
His beautiful fingers, holding the scalpel, even trembled slightly with excitement.
"Dr. Li, calm down!"
Xia Linyin dodged the man's scalpel in a flustered manner. After one dodge, she grabbed a nearby landline phone and smashed it over the man's head.
The man's slender body fell to the ground with a thud. Xia Linyin stared at the motionless man for three seconds before quickly throwing away the antique landline phone in her hand.
She didn't expect to actually knock Dr. Li unconscious, but she didn't hit him too hard, so Dr. Li should wake up soon.
Xia Linyin hurriedly packed her things and left the villa.
As Xia Linyin's footsteps faded into the distance, the man lying on the ground opened his eyes, and a slow smile curved his lips.
Xia Linyin dared not stay in a hotel, so she fled to an urban village. The village was a mixed community, and no personal registration was required when checking in, making it a perfect place to hide.
Dr. Li will be very angry when he wakes up and finds that she is gone.
At the time, she was terrified by Dr. Li's intention to turn her into a specimen and only thought about running away. Now that things have settled down, she doesn't know what to do next.
Without much thought, Xia Linyin, exhausted from a long day of running around, quickly fell asleep in the simple room.
When Xia Linyin woke up the next day, after washing up, she belatedly realized that something was wrong. The soundproofing of the room was not good. Yesterday, she could hear the noise outside the window clearly, but today there was no sound at all. It was unusually quiet.
Xia Linyin lifted the curtain a crack; the hallway, which was bustling yesterday, was deserted today.
Xia Linyin took a deep breath, pressed her hand to her pounding heart, and carefully opened the door, just as she was about to leave, a ghostly call came from downstairs, "Sister..."
In an instant, all the hairs on Xia Linyin's body stood on end.
Xia Linyin quickly turned around and went back to her room, stuffing all her things under the bed. Then she crawled in herself, using cardboard boxes to block her way.
Xiao Li climbed the dusty cement steps one by one, her pace unhurried, like an elegant hunter approaching her prey who had fallen into a trap.
With a flick of his wrist, the sharp, gleaming crescent blade struck the rusty iron handrail, producing a series of crisp sounds that echoed through the dilapidated stairwell.
He hummed a wordless tune softly, the same tune Xia Linyin had hummed to him in the tomb of King Wuhou. Xia Linyin had only hummed it casually at the time, and it was completely out of tune and disjointed, but the same tune sounded surprisingly good when he hummed it.
However, at this moment, the sound of the blade striking the iron handrail echoing through the quiet corridor sent chills down one's spine.
It felt like hearing a group of ghost dolls singing a chorus, their ghostly songs carrying a seductive power that could tempt the living to commit suicide, luring them step by step to the balcony to jump off and kill themselves, so that the dead souls could play with them.
Xiao Li climbed to the fourth floor, tapping the metal handles one by one with his knife. When he reached the room at the far end of the corridor where Xia Linyin was, he smiled slightly.
The gleaming blade lightly tapped against the doorknob, once, twice, three times...
Xia Linyin covered her mouth tightly, holding her breath and daring not to make a sound. The singing outside the door was eerie and strange, as if shrouded in blood. The unfamiliar melody carried a hint of familiarity, and the metallic knocking sound struck her heart again and again.
Xiao Li tilted her head, then suddenly cleaved the wooden door open with a slash. The blade flashed sharply, and the door cracked open with a thud.
Lowering his sword, tip pointing downwards, Xiao Li entered the room. He scanned the small space, but not seeing Xia Linyin, he turned and left the room, humming a tune as he carried the sword down the stairs and out of the apartment building.
The singing gradually faded away until Xiao Li's voice could no longer be heard, at which point Xia Linyin carefully crawled out from under the bed.
