Chapter 36 Something has sneaked into their midst

Chapter 36 Something has sneaked into their midst

After lunch, Hongguo organized everyone and divided them into groups of two to check the power lines in the castle.

Everyone searched the castle for a long time but still had no clue.

Wen Qingqing walked over to Long Qingye, who was sitting on a dining chair, and said, "In my opinion, there's no need to worry about this power supply issue. Maybe this is just the way the dungeon is set up. It's a waste of time to keep investigating."

Long Qingye half-closed his eyes and looked drowsy: "What do you think we should do now?"

"We still have to find a way to complete the mission, so that the vortex gate will appear."

Long Qingye slowly opened his half-closed eyes and asked, "What's the mission?"

Wen Qingqing lowered her head and pondered for a moment: "Could it be to clean up this castle? I remember the nun said that we can leave once it's clean."

Long Qingye stood up from his chair, took a look at the decorations in the castle, and said, "What do you think is unclean here?"

Wen Qingqing was speechless for a moment and couldn't answer.

Because this castle was spotless everywhere. From the first floor to the second, every bathroom, storage room, and room looked as if they had been meticulously cleaned. Even the large glass chandelier hanging from the ceiling didn't seem to need a single wipe.

While the two were talking, Xie Liang sat down on the chair next to Long Qingye.

Xie Liang looked at Long Qingye expressionlessly, silently expressing his support for Wen Qingqing and his decision to no longer participate in the power supply inspection.

Seeing that he looked like he was on strike, Long Qingye couldn't help but tease him, "I asked you to check the electrical box because I don't want to see a bunch of you hanging around me."

Wen Qingqing glanced at the lazy Long Qingye wordlessly and sat down on the chair next to Xie Liang.

"Xie Liang, what do you think the mission of this copy is?" Wen Qingqing asked.

"I don't know. Based on my past experience, relevant clues are either text prompts that appear in the temporary location, or revealed by NPCs in the dungeon."

Wen Qingqing was a little discouraged, slumped over the dining table with her head in her hands. "But this time, there weren't any prompts for staying on the ground. The NPC just said, 'Once this place is clean, we can leave.' That was a bit of a clue, but nothing else."

Xie Liang adjusted his sitting position, trying not to let the wound on his back touch the back of the chair. "It's possible that the key information of the mission is still in that sentence, but we haven't figured it out yet."

At this time, Hongguo and other descenders came towards them one after another.

"Brother Ye, I didn't find anything. I think the lighting should be the setting of this world." Hong Guo said.

"Okay, I understand." Long Qingye said lightly.

Xie Liang noticed that the man named Zhou Gui had disappeared since lunch.

He and Wen Qingqing looked at each other and walked upstairs together.

The two walked to the corner of the stairs and stared at Zhou Gui's room. The doors of the rooms on both sides of the corridor were open, only Zhou Gui's door was closed.

"Try knocking on the door." Wen Qingqing whispered.

The two walked towards Zhou Gui's room, and Xie Liang raised his hand and knocked on the door.

"Dong Dong Dong"

After the knock on the door, Zhou Gui's impatient roar came from the room: "Who is it? I'm taking a nap, don't disturb me!"

"It's me, Xie Liang. Long Qingye asked us to go downstairs. He has something to say."

Impatient roars were heard again from the room, almost roaring: "No! Get out!"

Xie Liang tried to open the door, but found it was locked from the inside, so the two had to give up and leave.

Wen Qingqing asked, "Is he really sleeping?"

"I'm not sure, but he's definitely not the real Zhou Gui. I found some blood on the door. He must have died last night."

Xie Liang continued, "We need to figure out the pattern of turning off the lights at night, and what these densely packed murals represent."

Just then, Long Qingye and Hong Guo came up the stairs. After they came up, they began to observe the patterns painted on each door.

Xie Liang suddenly understood what happened last night, and pulled Wen Qingqing to sit on the sofa in the long hall on the second floor.

Xie Liang looked at her and said, "Long Qingye, Zhou Gui, Hong Guo, and us, the patterns painted on the doors are all hideous images of demons. We all heard noises in the corridor last night, and I guess Zhou Gui opened the door because he heard that noise!"

Hong Guo suddenly popped her head out from behind him: "Not bad, you're quite smart."

Xie Liang was startled by her and felt a little helpless: "Can you please not suddenly appear from behind others next time? It's scary!"

Hong Guo rolled her eyes at him. "Scary? I'm so beautiful, how can I be scary?"

Wen Qingqing looked at Hong Guo and asked, "Did you hear those noises last night too?"

Hong Guo stared at her red manicure and said nonchalantly, "Yes, I just asked the people downstairs, and they all said they slept very soundly last night. However, the door paintings on their rooms are all portraits."

Wen Qingqing nodded. "So, only people with devil pictures painted on their doors can hear those footsteps at night?"

"Not necessarily. Maybe those pigs were sleeping too soundly."

Xie Liang pointed at Long Qingye who was standing by the French window, turned around and asked Hong Guo: "Is he in a daze?"

Hong Guo looked in the direction he was pointing. "Oh, Brother Ye is often like this. He must be thinking about something."

Xie Liang stood up and walked to Long Qingye's side, following his gaze to look at the dense jungle outside.

The shadows of the trees in the jungle outside were swaying. A strong wind blew, and the numerous leaves fluttered. In the sunlight, Xie Liang seemed to vaguely see something moving quickly through the woods.

Suddenly, Long Qingye asked, "Did you see it?"

"Well, what is that?"

"I don't know, but there's also this thing outside the wind wall in the temporary residence."

The thing was moving too fast and was too far away, so Xie Liang couldn't see clearly what it was.

"As long as they don't go out, they shouldn't be able to hurt us now."

Long Qingye turned around and said, "If you don't go out, you only have seven days."

Xie Liang hesitated: "Are you going to kill Zhou Gui?"

"Not for now, let's keep him for now and talk about it tonight." After saying that, Long Qingye walked back to his room.

At seven o'clock in the evening, the glass chandelier in the hall lit up. Except for Zhou Gui, everyone gathered in the long hall on the second floor.

Lan Song clutched his stomach and complained, "We only provide one meal a day, and the portion is less than a 50-gram egg. I'll starve to death before I'm killed in the dungeon."

Hong Guo crossed her arms and taunted, "I'll starve you to death!"

Huang Jinwu was unhappy when he heard this and said, "How can you have such a foul mouth, woman?"

Hongguo looked at him disdainfully and snorted.

At this time, Chen Jing said with some fear: "That Zhou Gui, he has been sleeping all day, how come he is so sleepy? Did something happen?"

Long Qingye suddenly stood up from the sofa and said, "Everyone, the rooms need to be reallocated."

"Redistribution? Why? What happened?" Zhang Fengjing asked in confusion.

A subtle hint of vigilance flashed across Long Qingye's eyes, and he spoke in a firm tone, "No reason. Apart from Zhou Gui, two people will share a room. Leave the room with the devil painted on the door vacant. Don't ask any questions, just do as I say."

Soon, everyone was divided into two groups and assigned to rooms. Since there were only three girls in the group, they squeezed into the same room.

There are portraits painted on the doors of seven rooms, and pictures of demons on the doors of the remaining six rooms.

Long Qingye asked Xie Liang to live in the same room with him, because Xie Liang looked clean and tidy, and he only liked Xie Liang.

The murals in this new room were completely different from the one Xie Liang had lived in before. They were filled with densely packed demons. Their mouths were wide open, as if wailing, with distorted and painful expressions.

Xie Liang couldn't figure out the meaning and paced back and forth in front of the mural.

After looking around, he discovered a pattern and couldn't help but speak:

"The door of the room I stayed in last night had a painting of a devil on it, and the mural inside was of tortured humans. But this room has a painting of a human on the door, and inside is a demon wailing in pain."

Xie Liang felt a sudden flash of inspiration in his mind, but it was too fast and he couldn't catch it. He couldn't help but slap his head with his hand.

"I've seen the room you stayed in last night. The figures in the three murals are all martyrs." Long Qingye said lightly.

"Martyr?" The flash of inspiration appeared again, and Xie Liang caught it this time.

He had seen these demons in the mural in a book before.

Xie Liang looked at Long Qingye and asked, "I think the background setting of this instance is related to a church. Have you heard of Jews?"

"Of course, it is said that the Jews originated in the Land of Israel in Western Asia and later became refugees after being expelled."

"What about Judaism and Christianity? Do you understand them?"

“I don’t know, but I’ve heard of it.”

"The portraits on several doors include: an old man, a woman, and a child. They should correspond to the saint, the Virgin Mary, and the Son of God respectively. They are a trinity that can resist the invasion of the devil."

Xie Liang pointed at the murals on the wall and said, "The nun said that we can leave once this place is clean. When she said 'clean', could she mean that she wants us to remove the demons from these murals?"

Long Qingye glanced at Xie Liang: "And then?"

After hearing his question, Xie Liang didn't know what to say, and the atmosphere suddenly became quiet.

As the night deepened, the wind howled outside the small window.

Xie Liang leaned against the head of the bed and kept an eye on the time. He wanted to find out the exact time to turn off the lights.

Long Qingye suddenly said, "Twelve o'clock."

Xie Liang didn't react to what he meant for a moment: "What?"

Long Qingye lay on the bed and glanced at him lazily: "I told you not to keep staring at the dial. It was exactly midnight when the lights were turned off last night. If nothing unexpected happens, it will be the same tonight."

Xie Liang ignored him and continued to look at the dial silently.

Sure enough, when the hands on the dial pointed to twelve o'clock, the chandelier in the room, like the lamp last night, flickered a few times and went out, and the whole room fell into darkness. However, what was better than last night was that this room had windows, through which you could see the clear light of the moon outside.
