Chapter 39: The Scales of Fairness
Zhou Gui's voice came from outside the door. He broke free from the rope and started banging on the door in the corridor like last night.
"Open the door! Open the door quickly!"
He knocked on room after room, but no one in the room opened the door.
"Zhou Gui is a traitor." Long Qingye said.
Xie Liang was groping his way onto the bed, and just as his back was leaning against the headboard, he heard Long Qingye say this out of the blue.
"Are you talking about the traitor in "The Last Supper"? " Xie Liang asked.
Long Qingye seemed surprised by Xie Liang's words: "You know?"
"You said Zhou Gui was a traitor, which reminded me of Leonardo da Vinci's "The Last Supper". The number of people in the painting is the same as the number of us who first descended, both thirteen." Xie Liang explained.
"Yes, that painting."
The painting depicts a scene from the life of Jesus: in a magnificent dining room, Jesus and his twelve apostles are sitting at a long horseshoe-shaped table eating his last supper.
The knocks on the door became louder and louder, making the eardrums of the people in the room hurt.
The sound continued until three o'clock in the morning.
After the knocking sound disappeared, it was replaced by heavy footsteps, the same footsteps as the previous two nights. It must be those human-shaped demons with bull heads and bat wings coming out of the door painting.
Judging from the footsteps, there were only two of them, wandering back and forth in the corridor. Xie Liang got out of bed, walked to the door, put his head to the peephole on the door and looked out, but it was still pitch black and he couldn't see anything clearly.
"It's too dark, I can't see clearly." Xie Liang said.
After hearing what Xie Liang said, Long Qingye took out the night vision goggles from his pocket and walked to the door in the dark. When Xie Liang felt him coming, he moved aside and gave him the peephole position.
Long Qingye looked out of the cat's eye with night vision goggles and saw two tall demons walking back and forth in the corridor, with green liquid flowing from their eyes.
These two demons probably had blurred vision, so their steps were slower than the previous two nights. However, they were each dragging a huge axe in their hands, so their fighting power should not be underestimated.
Long Qingye put away his night vision goggles, took out a pair of special gloves from his backpack and put them on. After checking his clothes, he prepared to open the door and go out.
Just as he was about to open the door, Xie Liang stopped him, "What are you doing?"
Long Qingye said as a matter of course: "Of course we go out and kill them."
"I'll go with you."
Xie Liang took out a dagger from his bag and released his shoulder that was pressing on the door.
A little moonlight filtered in through the huge French window next to the long hall, allowing them to barely see the scenery around the corridor.
Not long after the door was opened, the two devils seemed to have smelled their scent, quickly turned around, raised their huge axes and rushed towards them.
Although the two devils had poor eyesight, they moved quickly and were in front of them in the blink of an eye.
A devil picked up a sharp axe and chopped it at Xie Liang's head. Xie Liang instinctively dodged it.
Long Qingye pulled out an extremely thin, silver-gleaming steel wire from the silver bracelet on his wrist. With his gloved hands, he flexibly wrapped the steel wire around the devil's neck, and then strangled the devil's neck tightly.
At this time, another devil pounced towards Xie Liang, and Xie Liang ran while looking for an opportunity to attack.
After running along the corridor for a while, he squatted at the corner of the stairwell, waiting for the devil to come over. When it wasn't paying attention, he stabbed the dagger in his hand into its chest.
The devil twisted its body in pain and slapped Xie Liang's shoulder with its green claws. Before Xie Liang could pull out the dagger from its chest, it knocked him to the ground.
When the devil raised the axe and prepared to chop down Xie Liang, Long Qingye suddenly appeared behind the devil. He quickly pulled up the steel string and wrapped it around the devil's neck, tightening the wire.
The devil turned the axe in his hand and swung it at Long Qingye behind him. Xie Liang quickly got up from the ground while it wasn't paying attention, pulled out the dagger stuck in its chest and stabbed it a few more times.
The devil kicked Xie Liang to the ground again. At this moment, its head suddenly fell off and rolled to Xie Liang's feet.
Long Qingye actually used that extremely thin steel wire to strangle the devil's big bull head.
After more than ten seconds, the headless devil stopped struggling and fell to the ground.
While they were leaning on the handrail in the corridor to rest, Hongguo opened the door and walked over.
"Brother Ye! When I heard the fighting sound, I thought it was you!"
Long Qingye didn't say anything. He took off his gloves and put them in his trouser pocket. He took out a handkerchief from his pocket, and passed the fingers of his other hand through the thin ring on the bracelet to pull out the steel wire.
He slowly wiped the green liquid remaining on the wire with a handkerchief.
Seeing that Long Qingye ignored her, Hong Guo turned to Xie Liang and said, "You're still alive. You're quite skilled. By the way, what's your name, Liang?"
"Xie Liang, I have no skills at all. It's only thanks to your brother Ye that I'm lucky enough to be alive."
After Xie Liang finished speaking, he turned around and expressed his gratitude to Long Qingye.
After Long Qingye wiped the steel strings clean, the three of them went to the first floor with the light coming in through the floor-to-ceiling windows.
Hong Guo raised her hand and pointed to a circular circle of light in the center of the first-floor hall not far away. "Look there!" she said.
In the dark castle, the circle of light was particularly obvious. Xie Liang looked towards the ceiling following the source of the circle of light.
In the vast darkness, the mural of the Madonna and Child on the ceiling was emitting a soft glow, and the light in the aperture was emitted from the gesture of the Virgin Mary giving blessing in the mural.
The holy light was pure white, giving people an inexplicable sense of security in the darkness.
The walls surrounding the lobby on the first floor were almost entirely covered with murals of demons. The three of them tried to avoid getting close to the walls to avoid being pulled into the paintings.
A gust of cold wind blew by, and Xie Liang could even hear the roars of the demons in the murals.
Xie Liang remembered that he brought a flashlight, so he quickly took it out of his bag and shone it towards the murals around him.
The devil in the mural was struggling frantically on the wall, as if it was trapped inside.
Their limbs were constantly tearing at the wall that imprisoned them. The wall rose and fell like waves on the sea as they struggled. Some of the devil's limbs had even stretched out from the wall.
The wall was like the surface of a bungee bed, full of elasticity, and no matter how they struggled or twisted, it tightly bound them.
It was already past five in the morning. Xie Liang went back to his room and lay down, and fell asleep soon after.
Long Qingye couldn't sleep. He looked at Xie Liang boredly while holding his night vision goggles.
The light outside the window was gradually getting brighter, and Long Qingye was still staring at Xie Liang. He couldn't control the desire in his heart to explore Xie Liang.
At this moment, a shrill scream came from outside the door.
Xie Liang's long eyelashes trembled slightly, and he was about to wake up. Only then did Long Qingye withdraw his gaze from him.
Someone died again last night.
When Xie Liang and Long Qingye arrived, the other descenders had already gathered outside the door of the room where the accident happened. Lu Xin, who lived in this room, was sitting at the door. He was so scared that he was shaking and trembling all over.
The dead man was Huang Jinwu. He was lying flat on the floor covered in blood. His abdomen was cut open and all his internal organs were taken out and scattered on the floor.
This bloody scene made anyone who saw it want to vomit. Xie Liang suppressed his nausea and looked at his cut open stomach, which seemed to have something stuffed inside.
At this time, Hong Guo, who came forward to take a look, also noticed the irregular bulge on Huang Jinwu's belly: "There's something in his stomach!"
She squatted on the ground and carefully opened Huang Jinwu's abdomen. Inside was a bloody scale that looked like it was made of brass.
Xie Liang asked, "Libra?"
In an instant, he remembered that when he entered this room just now, he saw a scale in the painting on the door!
Xie Liang quickly turned around to look at the painting on the door.
Sure enough, the old man in the door painting was holding a small scale in his hand, and its structure looked exactly the same as the scale in Huang Jinwu's stomach.
Wen Qingqing didn't understand what was going on. She looked at him and asked, "Xie Liang, what's wrong?"
"There is also a scale in the door painting!" said Xie Liang.
After seeing the door painting, everyone exclaimed in surprise and whispered about the connection between Huang Jinwu's death and the old man in the painting.
