Chapter 41: White Meat No One Dares to Eat
Long Qingye, who was walking in front of Xie Liang, said bluntly: "No need to look for it."
After hearing this, Xie Liang stopped waving the flashlight in his hand, and together with Lan Song, he carried Zhou Gui, walked towards the circle of light, and threw Zhou Gui into the circle of light.
Zhou Gui struggled to move out of the aperture, but they had already formed a circle around it. Whenever Zhou Gui was about to move out of the aperture's range, the people around him would kick him towards the center of the aperture.
As the holy light shone, thick black smoke gradually emerged from Zhou Gui's body, covering his entire body.
He wailed miserably, and his bound hands kept scratching the ground frantically. His nails broke and blood oozed out. Soon, shocking scratches appeared on the ground.
After an unknown amount of time, the thick black smoke began to dissipate, and the traitor who was disguised as Zhou Gui finally revealed his true face.
He was a demonized old man with a cow's tail. His skin color was the same as the devil's, a dark green color. Under his messy gray hair was a face full of wrinkles.
The old man's blackened lips were stretched open, revealing two long canine teeth. He roared at Xie Liang and the others with a ferocious look on his face.
Under the continuous illumination of the holy light, the demonized old man gradually calmed down, his body with a cow's tail began to become transparent, and finally turned into powder and disappeared in the holy light.
After the old man disappeared, Lan Song broke down and yelled, "Damn it! Why didn't the bell ring?"
Hong Guo was still in shock when he suddenly called out, "Calm down! What are you yelling about?"
Xie Liang felt a chill all over his body. He supported his tired body and said, "Let's go up first and talk later."
Long Qingye noticed the unusual blush on Xie Liang's face, and he followed Xie Liang up to the second floor.
Xie Liang looked listless and fell asleep as soon as he returned to his room.
Long Qingye looked at Xie Liang who was lying beside him and mumbling incessantly. He put his ear close to Xie Liang's lips, trying to hear what Xie Liang was saying.
His earlobe accidentally touched Xie Liang's hot lips, and he felt a wonderful feeling he had never experienced before.
The warm feeling continued to come from Long Qingye's earlobe, "So you have a fever..." He suddenly felt a little happy and rested his head on Xie Liang's shoulder, "You are really weak..."
The place where Long Qingye rested his head on Xie Liang's wound, and the wound started to bleed again. After feeling the wetness, he dipped some blood with his fingertips and put it into his mouth.
It was so sweet that one couldn't wait to eat it in one bite. Long Qingye hugged Xie Liang tightly in ecstasy.
Perhaps it was the pain of his wound, or the uneasiness in his dream, but Xie Liang's low moans never stopped. In this indescribable atmosphere, Long Qingye leaned on Xie Liang's shoulder and fell into a deep sleep.
When Xie Liang woke up, it was already daybreak. The pain in his body had eased a lot, but he still had a low fever and had little strength.
Xie Liang pushed Long Qingye who was pressing on his shoulder: "Hey! Wake up!"
Xie Liang looked at Long Qingye speechlessly: "Hiss, wake up quickly, my hands are numb from you."
Long Qingye seemed to be still asleep. He moved his head to the other side in a daze and lay on his side with his back to Xie Liang.
In fact, the moment Long Qingye turned sideways, his eyes became clear.
After Xie Liang woke up, he stood up and walked towards the sofa in the long hall. Hong Guo and the others were already sitting there.
Wen Qingqing looked at him and said, "Are you okay? You don't look well."
"Do you have a fever?" Hongguo asked.
"Well, it's okay, just a low fever." Xie Liang said.
Wen Qingqing sighed, "I'm glad you're okay. If the nun doesn't come today, we might really starve to death here!"
Chen Jing whispered, "Even after Zhou Gui died, the door wasn't even opened. Do they really want us to scrape off the wall?"
"If this is the world in a painting, perhaps the door will only open if these paintings are destroyed," said Xie Liang.
Before eleven o'clock, they were all sitting on the chairs at the dining table, waiting for the elderly nun to bring in the food.
At eleven o'clock, the door creaked open from the outside, and the old nun came in carrying a basket.
Lan Song, who was lying on the table, heard the noise and stood up excitedly.
The old nun came in with a basket and began to distribute food on the table.
Hong Guo barked at her, "Hey! Didn't you say we could leave once the house was clean?"
"Tell me what's not clean about this house!"
"Stop fiddling with the dishes! How are we going to get out of here? Tell me! You old fool, you don't say a word!"
No matter how she questioned, the old nun didn't respond at all.
After the old nun mechanically divided the food, she took the basket, went out, locked the door, and left.
Hongguo angrily cursed the old nun. Wen Qingqing pulled her skirt, signaling her to calm down and eat first.
Each portion of food on the table was still as meager, but there were a few extra plates of meat.
Lan Song quickly finished his portion. He was still hungry, his eyes blazing as he stared at the plates of white meat on the table. But he was also afraid something might happen if he ate. He kept wondering: Would eating trigger any danger? But if he continued to starve, he would die anyway… He looked at everyone hesitantly.
No one touched the white meat on the plate. Not knowing the rules, they would rather starve than break the rules and die.
After Xie Liang finished his food, he went back to his room to rest. He had a low fever, but he was in good spirits.
Xie Liang was lying in bed, having a dream in which the whole castle was on fire. The devil in the mural was growling and wailing in pain as the flames burned, and the sound was so loud that it seemed to shake the sky.
Xie Liang covered his ears and curled up, sweating profusely. He looked like he had been fished out of the water, and his clothes were soaked.
After an unknown amount of time, he finally woke up.
The chandelier in the room was already lit, and Xie Liang could clearly hear the devil's screams. He quickly looked around and saw that the devil in the mural was actually moving, as if it was about to break free from the wall!
He quickly got up and walked out.
Long Qingye and the others were gathered at the door of a room in the corridor, each with a heavy expression on their faces. Xie Liang walked towards them. Seeing him coming, Hong Guo tilted her chin towards the room, motioning him to go in and take a look.
Xie Liang gasped after entering the room. The devil in the mural was constantly twisting its body, and most of its body had already escaped from the wall.
"The devil murals throughout the castle have become like this," Hong Guo said. "Once they all come out, we'll be killed right here!"
After saying that, Hongguo swung the folding knife in his hand at a devil in the mural. The blade made a "clang" sound when it hit the devil, just like it was hitting a hard stone.
Chen Jing, who was standing by, was so frightened that she started to cry. Lan Song broke down and yelled at her, "Damn it! You just cry! You're useless!"
Hong Guo was in a bad mood and yelled back at him, "You're really useful! If you can, lead us all out!"
Lan Song was about to retort her angrily when he suddenly remembered something. He took a few steps back and ran towards the first floor.
After running downstairs, he sat down at the dining table, staring intently at the plates of white meat that no one had eaten during the day.
Hunger completely overcame fear: "Look at this horrible state, sooner or later I will die, I might as well be a full ghost. Besides, no one can guarantee that eating will definitely break the rules."
He no longer hesitated and began to stuff the meat into his mouth with relish. After finishing one plate, he grabbed another and started to eat it greedily with the water in the jar.
After a quick devour, he had eaten up all the white meat on the table, not even a scrap of meat was left.
He burped contentedly, touched his bloated stomach with both hands and muttered to himself: "Anyway, I'm full now, nothing should go wrong if I don't stay alone." Then he hurried upstairs to reunite with everyone else.
A cold wind began to blow in the castle, the dim lights flickered, and the screams of the demons became more shrill, as if they were about to break through the wall in the next second.
Everyone sat on the sofa in the long hall with heavy faces, as if waiting to die.
Chen Jing seemed tired of crying and murmured, "We...are we just going to wait for death?"
Hong Guo glared at her and said impatiently, "Aren't we trying to figure this out? Otherwise, what do you think we're doing sitting here?"
Xie Liang suddenly remembered the dream and suggested, "Let's burn this place down."
Hong Guo looked at him in disbelief. "Burned? Are you crazy? Not to mention the huge lock on the door, even if we could get out, there are so many monsters outside that we'd be torn to pieces!"
Wen Qingqing also looked worried: "She has a point. The castle is a safe zone after all. What should we do if the door doesn't appear after it burns down?"
Xie Liang didn't know what to say, so he reminded: "Those things in the wall are about to come out, aren't they?"
The devil's roars continued to echo in the castle, as if reminding them to prepare for a baptism of death.
Long Qingye, who had been squinting on the sofa, opened his eyes and said, "Then burn it."
"Brother Ye..." Hongguo exclaimed softly, as if she had not expected that Long Qingye would agree to this seemingly ridiculous proposal.
Long Qingye glanced at them coldly: "How much time do you think we have left? They will be able to come out of the wall in the second half of the night at the latest."
For a long while, no one spoke again.
Long Qingye suddenly laughed: "Everyone?"
Hong Guo said, "Brother Ye, I will listen to you."
"Right! Burn this place, the door will definitely open if we burn this place!" Lan Song yelled, "What should we do now! Damn it, I've had enough of this place!"
Xie Liang looked at the things in the castle that could be used as ignition materials: "Curtains, beds, wooden frames, everything that can be ignited, pile them under the mural, and then burn this place.
"We have to finish this before lights out."
After hearing this, everyone took action quickly. Two people worked in groups to look for ignitable fuel in the castle. After finding it, they threw it at the base of the walls with murals of devils painted on them.
