Chapter 42: Human-Headed Lizard Monster

Chapter 42: Human-Headed Lizard Monster

Lan Song had been following Xie Liang, feeling extremely uneasy. He didn't dare to leave Xie Liang for a moment, fearing that something would suddenly jump out and drag him away.

They found a lot of fuel for the fire: wooden chairs, wooden coffee tables, curtains, bed sheets, and even pushed the soft leather sofa over.

Everything is ready, just waiting to ignite these things and let the fire engulf this terrifying castle.

After checking that there were no omissions, everyone felt much more relaxed and sat down on the floor of the second-floor corridor to rest.

Lan Song sat down next to Xie Liang, breathing heavily. After finishing his work, he had long forgotten his previous uneasiness and leaned tiredly against the door beside him.

No one noticed that the painting on the door that Lan Song was leaning against suddenly changed.

The kind-looking woman in the painting suddenly widened her eyes and stared at Lan Song.

Her face began to twist and become hideous; her originally smiling lips slowly opened and split to her ears.

After Xie Liang had rested, he stood up from the ground, took out two boxes of matches from his bag, and handed one to Long Qingye: "This is for you."

Just as Long Qingye took the match, all the lights in the castle went out and the surroundings fell into darkness.

Before Xie Liang could turn on the flashlight, he heard Lan Song next to him let out an extremely shrill scream.

"Ah! What is that?! Help me! Ahhhh! Help..."

Lan Song's cry for help suddenly stopped. Xie Liang quickly turned around and shone the flashlight towards the place where Lan Song had just been.

Blood splattered the ground; Lan Song had been severed in half! His lower body was still sitting, but his upper body was missing, his internal organs scattered from his abdomen, dangling from his legs.

Wen Qingqing and others who came following the sound couldn't help but exclaimed after seeing the scene in front of them, and Chen Jing even vomited on the spot.

Hong Guo covered her mouth with one hand and asked Xie Liang with a flashlight in the other, "What could have torn him into this state in such a short time?"

"I don't know, but it was just a blink of an eye."

Long Qingye moved closer to Xie Liang. He glanced at the remains on the ground and said coldly, "Serves you right."

Undigested white meat leaked out of Lan Song's bitten stomach.

It seems that he secretly went down to eat the remaining plates of white meat, which led to his being cut in half by something.

Xie Liang was startled when he moved the flashlight's beam towards the door painting: "The woman's mouth in the painting..."

The woman in the painting has bulging cheeks and is chewing something with relish. The corners of her lips, which are cracked to her ears, reveal her pitch-black teeth from time to time as she chews!

As the swallowing sound was heard, the woman's cracked mouth slowly returned to its original state, and she looked as kind as usual, with no trace of the horror that had just appeared.

"Is it her...was it her who bit the blue pine in pieces?" Chen Jing's voice was as thin as a mosquito. She looked extremely scared and held Wen Qingqing beside her tightly.

Wen Qingqing patted her back and whispered soothingly, "Don't be afraid. He died because he broke the rules. I think the woman in this door painting believes in a religion that forbids eating certain kinds of livestock."

"This kid ate something he shouldn't have. Isn't that undigested mush today's white meat?" Hongguo said.

The devil's roar was deafening. Xie Liang went into the room with a flashlight to check. Many of the devil's limbs had stretched out from the wall and were twisting constantly.

Xie Liang looked at Lan Song's miserable state, sighed helplessly, and then said to Long Qingye beside him: "Let's start the action!"

After Xie Liang finished speaking, he walked into one of the rooms, took out a match, lit it, and quickly threw it onto the combustible materials in the room. The flames instantly ignited the curtains on the ground, and the dark room gradually became brighter.

After a while, all the rooms on the second floor were set on fire one by one. The fire grew bigger and bigger, and the devil's roar became louder and louder.

The raging fire in the room quickly spread to the corridor, and the wooden carved handrails also began to burn, and the flames were approaching the corner of the stairs.

Everyone hurried to the first floor. Just as they reached the open space on the first floor, several demons with flames on their bodies appeared one after another on the stairs on the second floor. They screamed and rushed towards everyone.

"Hurry up and light the remaining combustibles on the first floor, and then go to that light circle!" After Xie Liang said this, he quickly ran to the wall full of combustibles with a match in his hand.

Suddenly, a devil with flames on its body rushed straight towards Xie Liang!

The match in Xie Liang's hand couldn't be lit at this time, so he simply threw the match away and squatted on the ground.

The moment the devil pounced, Xie Liang quickly stood up and went around behind the devil, kicking its burnt black butt hard. The devil was caught off guard and fell on the pile of combustible materials.

The flames on the devil's body instantly ignited the pile of combustibles. At this time, the raging fire had already jumped from the second floor to the first floor, and the nearby combustibles were all burning with a "crackling" sound.

Under the flames, charred demons gradually broke free from the murals.

Hong Guo and others hurriedly walked into the light circle. She was surprised to find that the demons could not pass through the holy light at all, and standing in the light circle, they could not feel the heat waves generated by the raging fire outside.

Hong Guo hurriedly shouted to Long Qingye, "Brother Ye! Come here quickly! They can't get in!"

Xie Liang and Long Qingye were surrounded by several charred demons and were unable to break free from their encirclement for a while. More and more charred demons gathered towards them.

"You jump up by stepping on my shoulders. Do you see the pillar behind them? It's about to fall down. See if you can kick it down after you jump out!" said Xie Liang.

Long Qingye looked at him and nodded.

Xie Liang endured the drowsiness caused by the low fever and half-crouched on the ground. Long Qingye stepped on his shoulders and jumped up, stepping on the heads of those demons to escape from the encirclement.

Seeing that the two of them were still unable to get out, Hong Guo was swinging her folding steel knife, trying to break out of the circle of light. When she saw Long Qingye break through the encirclement, she happily shouted, "Brother Ye! Over here!"

Long Qingye quickly snatched the folding steel knife from her hand, stepped on the fallen dining table, chopped it hard at the pillar, and then kicked it with both legs.

The beams, which were already almost burned and on the verge of collapse, fell down instantly as the pillar collapsed!

Xie Liang had been keeping an eye on the movement of the pillar. When it fell, he quickly turned to the side, and the beam hit the charred demons hard.

Xie Liang didn't care about his clothes that were torn by the flames. He took the opportunity to jump onto the pillar and ran towards the sacred halo.

After entering the aperture, Xie Liang felt that the tingling and burning sensation in his body had eased a lot.

The demons that fell to the ground quickly got up and surrounded them.

However, they all stopped outside the aperture, and the demons that tried to break into the aperture were quickly reduced to ashes under the illumination of the holy light.

Standing in the circle of light, Xie Liang could not feel the heat waves and thick fog generated by the fire. He could not help but marvel at the magic of this holy light - it could actually protect people standing inside from harm.

Countless demons were gradually devoured by the raging fire. After an unknown amount of time, the fire gradually subsided and the light from outside the window slowly shone in.

The remaining flames spread to the mural of the Madonna and Child on the ceiling. As the Madonna and Child disappeared, the light in the aperture became stronger and stronger, so dazzling that Xie Liang could not help but close his eyes.

"Look! The wall is changing!" Wen Qingqing shouted excitedly.

The walls of the castle seemed to be shedding their skin. The charred areas burned by the fire turned into ashes bit by bit, revealing the spotless white walls underneath.

The charred walls gradually disappeared, replaced by clean, new walls, and all the burned areas began to repair themselves automatically.

In a short while, the castle looked brand new, and the walls were so white that it seemed as if everything that had happened before was just an illusion.

At this moment, Xie Liang finally heard a "dong" sound in his ear!

It was the sound of returning home! It was the sound that signaled the emergence of the Vortex Gate. The distant and clear chime sent a jolt through his heart, and his heavy heart instantly lightened.

At the same time, the two copper doors at the entrance were opening slowly and automatically, making a "creaky" sound.

Looking out from the door, the blue vortex gate was surging outside, waiting for them to enter.

Chen Jing excitedly hugged Wen Qingqing. "Great! The door's open! I thought... I was dead this time."

Chen Jing let go of Wen Qingqing's hand and ran excitedly towards the vortex door outside.

Just when Chen Jing was only one step away from the vortex gate, a monster the size of an adult with a human head and a lizard body suddenly jumped out, opened its bloody mouth and bit Chen Jing's neck.

After the monster bit her neck, it quickly dragged her towards the distant woods. On the way, several more monsters jumped out and bit Chen Jing's limbs, tearing her body into pieces, her internal organs bursting out, and blood gushing all over the ground.

More monsters followed the scent and headed there.

Wen Qingqing was stunned: "What is that? Chen Jing..."

"Lizard monster! She's beyond saving!" Hongguo pulled out a folding knife and looked outside the door vigilantly.

Outside the door, the lizard monsters with human faces were following the bloodstains on the ground in groups of three or two, crawling towards the direction where Chen Jing was taken away.

"Let's go!" Xie Liang said, pulling Wen Qingqing and pushing her towards the vortex gate.

The monsters quickly finished eating Chen Jing's body, turned around and crawled quickly towards the vortex gate.

"Brother Ye, you go in first!" Before Hongguo could finish her words, Xie Liang pushed her into the door.

At this time, a human-headed lizard monster with a bloody mouth pounced towards Xie Liangfei. Before he could react, Long Qingye grabbed his waist and brought him into the vortex gate.
