Chapter 5 Night Watch

Chapter 5 Night Watch

At this moment, Hu Xiaojuan, who was supposed to be lying in bed, stood up strangely and walked straight towards Xie Liang. She stood behind Xie Liang like a ghost, with a sinister smile on her lips.

At the same time, Xie Liang's peripheral vision gradually returned and he saw that the mirror that was supposed to be lying on the ground was now standing on the wall beside him.

The mirror reflected his image sitting on the dressing table, and Hu Xiaojuan behind him - her dark red eyes were staring at Xie Liang.

In the mirror image, Hu Xiaojuan's limbs began to deform and stretch, her neck became weak and powerless, and her head drooped down, turning her into the same monster as before!

"Wow!" Xie Liang didn't care about his numb hands and feet, and jumped off the stool with a "whoosh".

"Xiaojuan...how come you transformed too!!!" Xie Liang shouted at the top of his voice.

Xie Liang stared at the monster Hu Xiaojuan had transformed into while backing away towards the door. Suddenly, he bumped into a strong embrace. He turned around and saw that it was Xu He.

"Brother He, this, this..." Xie Liang had just woken up and encountered Hu Xiaojuan transformed into a spider monster, and his voice became trembling.

I saw Hu Xiaojuan in front of me, and she had completely turned into the same monster that Li Xi's corpse turned into in the bamboo forest.

The long limbs became like spider legs, tightly grasping the ground, with the belly facing the ground and the back facing the sky hunched, the head and neck drooping and hanging upside down, revealing a creepy smile.

This time, the spider monster that Hu Xiaojuan transformed into did not ask Xie Liang whether she was pretty or not. Instead, it locked its bloodshot eyes on Xie Liang, opened its big mouth that took up its entire face, revealing densely packed sharp teeth inside, and pounced towards Xie Liang!

In a flash, Xu He quickly pulled out the black sword from behind him and blocked the monster's claw attack with a "clang".

"It's too small here, let's go out first." The two led the monster into the yard.

It was just dawn and the light was not very good, but Xu He was not affected at all. Xie Liang was pulled by Xu He to follow behind him.

As soon as he walked out of the yard, Xu He drew his black sword. The white blade shone with a cold light. It was indeed a good sword!

The black hilt was intricately carved with dragon patterns, echoing the auspicious clouds on the scabbard. Xie Liang couldn't help but exclaim, "What a great sword!"

Xu He was startled when he heard that, and the monster's sharp claws just passed by his face.

Xie Liang saw him stunned for a moment, his expression seemed to be thinking something. How despicable! What was this guy talking about?

Xu He's move was as swift as autumn wind sweeping away fallen leaves. With a flash of cold light, the sharp blade cut through the void, and the monster's head fell to the ground.

The body lying on the ground with its limbs spread out was still twitching, and the blood splattered dyed the thick branches of the willow tree in the yard red.

The leaves rustled in the wind, and Xie Liang felt a tingling sensation on his back.

Three people died in two days, and now there were only five of them left. Xie Liang had no desire to sleep, so he sat on the stone pier in the yard with Xu He.

It was almost dawn, and the trees were swaying in the yard. Xu He was wiping the blood off the blade of his sword.

The hazy light makes Xu He look like a knight in a movie or TV series.

"I don't know what happened to Hu Xiaojuan." Xie Liang murmured, supporting his cheek with his hand.

"Maybe she has died a long time ago." Xu He's voice was a little indifferent.

"Are you saying that she has been dead since Grandma Wang died?" Xie Liang thought carefully.

"Perhaps."

"Uh, how did you know something happened here?" Xie Liang asked casually.

"I heard a sound."

"Well, thank you very much. If it weren't for you, I might be the one lying there!" Xie Liang then said seriously: "If there is a chance, I will treat you to a meal at my house. I will cook for you myself."

"Okay." Xu He agreed quickly.

After that, Xie Liang and Xu He exchanged their phone numbers. Xie Liang recited it a few times, and when he felt he had memorized it, he dozed off next to Xu He.

It was already daybreak, and the other three people also got up one after another. When they saw the things in the yard, they all gasped.

"Are the three of us pigs? We slept so soundly that we didn't hear any sound!" Li Dong said as he squatted on the ground and looked at the monster's corpse.

"Fuck, is this Hu Xiaojuan? This tattered skirt looks like the one she wears!" he asked.

"It's her." Xie Liang told them what had just happened in the room.

"There are only a few of us left. It's only the third day and three people have already died. Can we still leave this damn place alive?" Dai Tian said somewhat discouraged.

There was a hint of collapse in his eyes, and he squatted on the ground with his head in his hands.

"Brother, you will die if you stick your head out, and you will die if you hide your head! Everyone has to die once! Don't be afraid!" Li Dong patted Dai Tian's shoulder and comforted him.

"Don't look in the mirror casually. Everyone should pay attention to places with mirrors," Xie Liang reminded.

"There's still a lot of work to do today. After lunch, let's replace the tiles as soon as possible and leave this damn place early." Dai Tian said dejectedly.

"Emma, I've done this before, it only takes a day or two! Don't be discouraged." Li Dong said.

After a while, the village woman who delivered breakfast opened the door and came in.

But she seemed not to see the corpse lying in the yard. She walked straight into the hall, put down the food and left.

No matter how Li Dong called her, she ignored him and left in a hurry.

"Damn, is this woman hard of hearing?" Li Dong said angrily.

"I think she's not only hard of hearing, but also blind! There's blood all over the ground and such a big corpse, and she can't see a single thing!" Dai Tian also echoed.

"The indigenous people in the small world can no longer be explained by common sense." Xiao Ha said.

The few of them just ate the rough and tasteless meals step by step.

"Are we still going to care about the bodies in the yard?"

"We can't leave it in the yard all the time. It looks scary." Li Dong asked.

"Just dig a hole nearby and bury them. These aren't really their bodies. They'll have to face death again when they return to the real world." Xie Liang said seriously, remembering what Xiao Ha had said.

Because Xie Liang and Xu He worked slowly, the two of them chose to dig a hole to bury the body, and said that after burying the body, they would send the food to the ancestral hall for others to save them from wasting time running back and forth to eat.

No one had any objection, so the decision was made.

After breakfast, Xie Liang and Xu He went to the villager's house from last time to borrow a shovel and a cart, and pushed the body to the nearby mud to dig a hole and bury the body.

The other three rushed to the ancestral hall to replace the tiles.

Along the way, neither Xie Liang nor Xu He spoke a word, and Xie Liang always felt that the atmosphere was weird.

They found a slope at the edge of a field and prepared to dig a hole.

Xie Liang looked listless and in a bad mood, so Xu He asked him to stay aside while he dug the hole. After a while, Xu He finished digging the hole and burying the body by himself.

Xie Liang looked at Xu He's nimble movements and sighed inwardly, "Young people are so nimble. Unlike me, I have to breathe for a long time after running two steps."

It was almost noon when they buried the body, so they went back to eat and then sent it to the three people who were busy in the ancestral hall.

Nothing strange happened along the way. The three people on the roof saw them delivering food, so they climbed down the wooden ladder.

As the three of them approached, Xie Liang felt that they seemed to be hesitant to speak. They looked at each other, and then it was Xiao Ha who spoke:

"When the three of us arrived this morning, we discovered that a large area of the tiles we had replaced yesterday had been flipped over. It didn't look like they were flipped over by a cat or mouse, as these tiles are very heavy."

"Our mission this time is to complete the renovation of the ancestral hall, replace the tiles, organize the items inside, and clean it up. We should be done, but now..." Xiao Ha said and looked at Xu He.

"We put the overturned and fallen tiles back on the roof. I don't know what these tiles are made of, but they didn't break after falling from such a high roof," Dai Tian added.

"At the current rate, how long will it take to replace all the tiles?" Xu He asked.

"I'm very fast, I can do the work of two people! If I do this work by myself, I can finish it in two days. With their help, I think I can finish it in a day and a half, that is, before the day after tomorrow!" Li Dong said tiredly with sweat on his forehead.

"Let's continue after dinner." Xu He said.

After finishing their meal, the three of them continued to work on the roof. Xie Liang and Xu He also worked on the roof. They did not stop their work until dusk.

"Everyone stop and get ready to go back!" Xiao Ha shouted loudly.

Xie Liang looked at the results of everyone's hard work for a day. Most of the work had been completed, and only the tiles on the main hall and the inner room had not been replaced.

After a tiring day, everyone returned to the courtyard where they lived. They found the unpalatable food particularly delicious and ate it with big mouthfuls.

After eating, everyone started chatting in the yard.

"If we go there tomorrow, the tiles won't be blown off again, right?" Dai Tian asked worriedly.

"Damn it, can't I?" Li Dong said tiredly. His stubble had grown even longer, and he looked slovenly.

"I'll go keep watch," Xu He said, leaning against the wall with the black sword in his arms.

"Let me join in. I work slowly. You three should have a good rest. There are still many tiles to be replaced the next day." Xie Liang agreed.

Finally, the few people agreed that Xu He and Xie Liang would go to guard the ancestral hall, while Xiao Ha, Li Dong and Dai Tian would rest in the yard and continue to be busy changing the tiles the next day.

Afterwards, Xie Liang went back into the house, picked up the lantern he had taken from the old man, and rushed to the ancestral hall side by side with Xu He.

There were gusts of cold wind along the way, causing the flames in the lanterns to flicker.

"This village says that they pray on the sixth day. Are they praying for rain?" Xie Liang asked.

"Yeah," Xu He responded.

The two of them arrived at the ancestral hall in a short while, and the main hall was right after passing through the gate.

There were fiery red candles burning on both sides of the hall, and rows of plaques for deceased ancestors were placed above them. In front of the plaques were tributes, but they were already covered with dust.

The two of them sat down on two cushions in the center of the ancestral hall. From this position, they could sense the movements on the roofs around them.
