Chapter 73 The Mirror That Keeps People Looping
These terrifying lizard monsters fell from the sky, scaring everyone so much that they ran in all directions towards the four forks of the green wall.
Xu He drew his sword and blocked in front of Xie Liang, while Li Dong also took out a kitchen knife to protect him.
These lizard monsters seemed to be unable to see or hear human traces, and they just rushed around aimlessly in the foggy mud.
Several descenders who didn't have time to dodge were bitten by several lizard monsters with their mouths wide open. The other lizard monsters smelled the blood and suddenly became excited. They turned around and pounced on the injured descenders.
The screams rang out instantly, and soon died down.
When the rustling sound came, a strong smell of blood also spread, and more lizard monsters pounced over following the smell of blood.
Batches of lizard monsters fell from the sky, and their numbers increased.
If this continues, even if they can't see or hear them, they will be hit by their sheer numbers.
Li Dong shouted anxiously, "Brother Liang! Brother He! Which fork should we enter? There are more and more of them! Ahhhh!"
At this moment, the green walls began to move slowly, and the four forks were gradually closing at a speed visible to the naked eye.
Xu He panted slightly and said, "Left."
Ji Ranzi, who was hesitating about which entrance to enter, immediately rushed into the east gate not far away with his companions after hearing this.
As the green wall moved, the fog in the center of the mud began to dissipate, and the lizard monsters became more agile and gathered around Xie Liang and the others.
"Fuck! I can't get through!" Li Dong shouted at Xie Liang, waving a kitchen knife.
"It's too late!" Xie Liang said as he pulled Li Dong up and ran towards the nearest fork in the road behind him, "Brother He! Let's go!"
Seeing that the two green walls at the fork were about to close, Xu He quickly moved sideways and slipped in through the narrow gap.
The fork in the road was completely closed, and Xie Liang and the others were in a corridor formed by a green wall.
The corridor is about three meters wide, with green vines climbing all over the walls, some of which hang down to the muddy ground in the corridor. The entire corridor is filled with white gauze-like mist, and you can't see the bottom at a glance.
Li Dong hung the kitchen knife back on the leather sheath at his waist and asked, "Brothers, what should we do now? Should we move forward?"
Xie Liang said, "There is no other way here, let's walk forward first." As he said that, he raised his hand and looked at the watch Xu He gave him. The hands pointed to 6 o'clock in the morning.
Xie Liang said as he walked: "This time's mission should be to find the exit of the maze."
Li Dong said carelessly, "So does that mean as long as one person finds the exit, the door will appear?"
"Probably."
As he was walking, Li Dong suddenly fell heavily to the ground. His entire trouser legs were covered in mud, and his two knees had deep mud marks on the ground.
"Fuck!"
Xie Liang reached out and pulled him up: "Are you okay?"
Li Dong brushed off the dirt on his body and stood up. "It's okay. Damn it! I was walking steadily, but I fell flat on my face. What bad luck!"
"There are a lot of vines on the ground, be careful not to fall."
After walking for nearly half an hour, the three of them saw two forks in the road, each of which was shrouded in layers of fog, and it was unclear where it led.
"Fuck, there's a fork in the road, which one should I take?" Li Dong asked.
Xu He, who had been silent all this time, suddenly reached out and lifted Xie Liang's left hand, and looked at it for a long time before putting it down.
The watch Xu He gave Xie Liang had a compass needle inside it, which could tell the direction. Xie Liang guessed that Xu He was probably analyzing which way to go.
Sure enough, after a while, Xu He said, "Go left."
"Left? Which side is left? Men on the left and women on the right?" Li Dong pointed back and forth between the two passages.
"This way!" Xie Liang walked towards the corridor on the left.
After entering the new corridor, they walked forward along the foggy road.
None of the three noticed that the green wall behind them was moving silently, gradually closing the corridor they did not choose.
It was already past eight o'clock and the sky was still gray, but the fog began to dissipate. From a distance, one could vaguely see the end of the corridor.
They walked for more than half an hour and still didn't reach the end.
After walking back and forth for more than two hours, they seemed to be still standing still. The more Xie Liang thought about it, the more he felt something was wrong.
At this moment, Xu He stopped, frowned, and turned to look at the corridor behind him.
"Why did you all stop?" Li Dong stopped and asked.
"Dongzi, don't you think we have been walking for a long time?" Xie Liang said to him.
"We've been walking for quite a while, but we haven't reached the end yet. There's no other way."
Xie Liang sighed helplessly: "Look carefully ahead and see if it's different from what you saw before."
Li Dong rubbed his head, bewildered. "There's nothing different, isn't it? Aren't they all the same?"
"We've been walking for so long, and we still see the same thing as before. This means we've been going in circles!"
"Shit! Are we stuck?" Li Dong looked at the two of them. "What should we do now? Should we go back?"
There was a thin mist in front of me, and I could vaguely see the end of the corridor. The same was true behind me.
Xu He didn't know where to go for a moment. He caught a glimpse of the vines hanging on the green wall, drew out his black sword and cut off a piece.
"Tie the vines before going." Xu He said as he tied the vines in his hand to make them longer.
"Let me tie it." Xie Liang took the cane.
"Let me do it. I've worked on construction sites before," said Li Dong.
Xu He cut some more vines, stuck them into the ground with his sword, and then tied the connected vines together with the vines on the ground.
As they walked forward, they continued to connect longer vines, as if they were pulling a rope forward.
After walking for half an hour, they returned to the same place.
"Fuck, isn't that where we first tied the vines!" Li Dong exclaimed.
Sure enough, they came back and they were indeed going in circles.
Xu He looked at the tall green wall above his head, wondering if he could climb to the top of the wall to take a look.
"I'll go up and take a look."
Xu He said as he climbed up the vine, while Xie Liang and Li Dong waited below.
Xu He was dressed in black and climbed very skillfully.
But just as he stood firm on the top of the wall, a human-headed lizard monster suddenly appeared and pounced on him!
"Behind! There's one behind too!" Xie Liang shouted at Xu He anxiously.
Li Dong yelled, "Oh my god! There are more and more of them! Brother, come down quickly!"
Xu He gradually couldn't hold on any longer and was knocked down from the top of the wall by a lizard monster.
If you fall from such a height, even if there is mud below, you will still break your bones.
Xie Liang's heart tightened and he quickly opened his arms and rushed over.
Fortunately, Xu He grabbed the vines wrapped around the wall before landing, which alleviated a lot of the impact.
Xie Liang only supported his waist lightly - Xu He's waist was strong and powerful, and Xie Liang secretly evaluated the touch on his hand.
Li Dong retracted his arms, patted his chest, and said, "You almost scared me to death! It seems that this embrace of mine is too late."
At that moment, several lizard monsters jumped down the corridor and pounced on them! The three of them quickly ran towards the corridor ahead.
Xie Liang was pulled by Xu He and ran all the way. He didn't know how long he ran. When he looked back, the lizard monster following him had disappeared.
After confirming that the lizard monster did not catch up, Xu He used his sword to draw a simple semicircle on the ground, and also drew a lot of intersecting horizontal and vertical lines, which seemed to represent the entrance to the fork in the road.
After finishing the drawing, he used his sword to draw a stroke on the outermost edge of the circle: "We are here. Outside the semicircle is the foggy area. There is a human-headed monster every few steps on the top of the wall."
Li Dong looked bewildered: "I've been running back and forth for so long, I'm completely confused."
"Should we go inside?" Xie Liang said. The exit of the maze is usually located in the center. Since they are now at the outermost edge, it should be right to go to the center.
Xu He said uncertainly: "Let's try it."
Xie Liang nodded: "Let's walk it again, inch by inch, and pay attention to whether there are any disconnections or strange places."
He took out a pen and paper from his bag and traced the picture Xu He had drawn, just in case.
The three of them walked very slowly this time, stopping and starting along the way, observing any abnormalities around them.
After walking for half an hour, Xu He finally found the thing that had been making them go around in circles - a mirror hidden in the green wall.
The mirror was embedded in the rough wall and hidden by thick vines.
Xu He smashed the mirror with his black sword, and the green wall embedded with the mirror slowly moved, and soon two new corridors were formed.
Li Dong stared at the two corridors, a look of despair on his face: "Two more, which one should I go?"
To the east is the center of the circle, and both passages point to the east. Xu He felt that it didn't matter which one he took, so he just picked one and walked in.
There were two glass bottles filled with water and four red apples on the floor of the new corridor.
Xie Liang walked over, opened the cap of the glass bottle and smelled it. It tasted like ordinary water.
After they all walked into the new corridor, the green wall behind them began to move again, gradually closing the entrance.
Xie Liang: "The water is clean, could it be supplies for the maze?"
"Supplies? Let me try to see if there's anything wrong with the water."
Li Dong picked up another bottle of water, smelled it, and poured some into his mouth and swallowed it: "Nothing special, just ordinary water, drink it with confidence buddy. These apples should be fine too, put them away first." As he said that, he picked up the apples and stuffed them into Xie Liang's bag.
After the three of them walked forward for half an hour, the ground in the corridor changed from wet mud to dry fine sand.
The sand is dry, white and fine. When people walk on it, it will sink slightly, making walking more difficult than before.
"This sand..." said Xie Liang.
"What's wrong with the sand? It's so hard to walk on this damn sand. I'm almost going to pee. You guys go first, I'll go pee and then follow." Li Dong said as he unbuckled his belt.
Adhering to the principle of not looking at what is inappropriate, Xie Liang walked slowly forward with Xu He, waiting for him as they walked.
The two had not walked far when they heard Li Dong's cry for help from behind.
