Hua Xichen explained, "I didn't mean to ignore you. I was on a business trip and didn't get back until the afternoon."
"A business trip?" Rong Shang laughed. "Who are you trying to fool?"
The company is on holiday, but he, a vice president, still has to go on a business trip during the Chinese New Year.
"Really." Hua Xichen didn't want her to misunderstand. "There was a problem with a batch of goods that was exported a couple of days ago. As you know, all the company's employees have been on holiday these past two days. I had no choice but to go myself."

Just then, Madam Hua and Ji Nuan each carried a square plate and walked out of the kitchen.

He frowned, wondering what had happened.
The atmosphere became inexplicably tense.
Madam Hua glanced at it and smiled. She said to Rong Shang, "Qi Yan, I just told Xi Chen to come to your house to pay his respects for the New Year tomorrow."
"Perfect timing, you've arrived."
Madam Hua, having been through similar experiences, naturally understood who Rong Shang was unhappy about.

She laughed and quickly stepped in to smooth things over, saying, "I answered the phone."
"Mom," Hua Xichen called out to her.
Ji Nuan was somewhat surprised, "Auntie."
