After packing two backpacks and some essential items, the two left home.
Cen Yu doesn't really remember that period of his memory very clearly, probably because people always instinctively forget pain. The monsters appeared more and more frequently, and more and more people were infected. He and He Xueqing went to many places.

Cen Yu leaned against the basement wall and said to He Xueqing, "Come in and lie down for a while too."
He Xueqing had dark circles under her eyes, and looked like she hadn't slept in a long time.
He had many wounds on his hands, probably from when he went out to look for things.
"I'm not tired," He Xueqing said. "You should get some more sleep."
Cen Yu found He Xueqing really nagging, so he simply pulled him over. Of course, the sleeping bag couldn't fit two people, so He Xueqing half-lay on the sleeping bag... He was probably really too tired, and in the end, he fell asleep half-lay on Cen Yu.

The two of them finally arrived at the entrance to the basement.
The young man took out a cigarette from his pocket, glanced at Cen Yu, and finally offered him one. Cen Yu was about to say that he didn't smoke, but he accepted it anyway.

The young man lit a cigarette, smoked one, and then handed the lighter to Cen Yu. Cen Yu imitated him and coughed a few times at the end.
The man glanced at him in surprise, then looked more closely at Cen Yu's appearance. Despite his messy hair, one could still tell that he had a very young face.
"Who is that person to you?" the other person asked, smoking a cigarette. He had dark circles under his eyes that almost reached his cheekbones, probably because he hadn't slept in a long time. But he didn't dare to sleep, so he could only rely on smoking to stay awake.
“My classmate,” Cen Yu said.
"Classmate?" the man asked in surprise. He leaned back and looked Cen Yu up and down a few times. "I thought you two were a couple who had eloped."
Cen Yu didn't understand why this person would think that way, but he repeated it anyway, "He was my classmate sitting in front of me."
"The person in front of me..." the man repeated, then realized that Cen Yu was probably really young. "Are you an adult? Kid?"
“19 years old.” Cen Yu gestured a number. He turned 19 after his birthday that day.
The man didn't ask Cen Yu why she wasn't with her family, but instead followed the person in front of her on the run—what other reason could there be? Most likely, her family was gone.
"Have you heard about the safe zone?" the man asked.
Cen Yu had just heard He Xueqing say that, so he said he didn't know and wanted to see if the other party knew more.
Perhaps because he saw that Cen Yu was young, the man quickly revealed more information about the safe zone.
The other party mentioned the name of a city, "probably where they plan to build a safe zone."
“But they’ll do a check before you go in to make sure you haven’t been caught or infected by monsters.” The man scratched his head as he spoke. “I can’t go.” He rolled up his sleeve. “I was caught by a monster once before.”
Cen Yu noticed the scars on the other person's arm. "Although I haven't mutated, I don't think they'll want me."
Cen Yu's wound on his back was still burning, so he didn't speak.
“You two can go that way,” he said to Cen Yu. “I need to take my younger brother with me; it’s too far and a bit difficult.”
"Your brother?" Cen Yu asked.
“Hmm,” the man said, “He’s only 10 years old this year.” He gestured to indicate his height, “He can’t go that far with the two of us walking together.”
Cen Yu then understood why he looked so tired—unlike himself and He Xueqing, who could take turns on guard duty, the other party probably had to be on guard against the appearance of monsters all the time, making it difficult to rest at night and having to travel during the day.
