Chapter 96 The Palace (Part 1)

"Is that really so?" Consort Qi had just returned from His Majesty's place and was resting on a soft couch, eating a bowl of bird's nest porridge.

Upon hearing Cui Xin's report, she slightly raised her slender hand, which was covered by finger cots, and the palace maid who was responsible for feeding her stood aside with the bowl in her hand.

"Did you send someone to keep an eye on them before you left?"

Cui Xin said, "I asked Deng'er and Yue'er to keep an eye on them, and I also told the others not to bring them any food."

Consort Qi nodded and sneered, "They're just making a show of mystery, trying to stand out and attract His Majesty's attention! I'd like to see how long they can keep up this act!"

Before we knew it, it was the morning of the third day.

Cui Xin stood at the door and knocked. For the past two days, she had been asking the two of them every day if they had any instructions, and the answer from inside was always "No."

But today, she knocked for a while, but there was no sound.

Cui Xin panicked a little.

After all, she was a palace maid responsible for serving the two of them. If the two of them really suffered from hunger, even the Imperial Concubine might not be able to protect her.

"My two fairies, Cui Xin is here!" Cui Xin pushed open the door forcefully.

"Ah!" The moment the door opened, Cui Xin heard Fairy Lian Ye's cry.

Cui Xin looked in the direction of the sound and saw Yao Chen lying on the ground with Lian Ye riding on top of her.

Both of them were panting heavily, as if they had just been fighting on the ground, but their clothes were very clean.

Cui Xin didn't notice these small details; what shocked her was that their complexions were the same as three days ago, or even more radiant.

They had gone three whole days without eating, drinking, or washing, yet they were still able to maintain their original appearance!

This means that their previous claims of achieving success in spiritual cultivation were true!

If these two people in front of me really are immortals...

"What's wrong with you two?" Cui Xin asked, suppressing her fear as she walked over.

Lian Ye blushed slightly and got off Yao Chen, saying, "My senior sister and I were cultivating."

Cultivation?

Cui Xin recalled the strange posture of the two people she had seen when she entered the room. She was skeptical, but she pretended to understand.

She said, "Since you two have been silent for so long, Cui Xin thought something had happened to you fairies, which is why I barged in. I beg you fairies to punish Cui Xin for her rash actions."

"It's alright." Lian Yao quickly waved his hand. "I was just at a crucial point in my cultivation, that's why I couldn't reply to you."

"That's good. Then Cui Xin will take her leave."

"Wait a minute," Lian Yao called out to her, "You, stay a little longer..."

Cui Xin asked, puzzled, "Does Fairy Lian Ye have any other instructions?"

"No, nothing else..." Lian Yao sat down in the chair, supporting her waist.

He simply didn't want to be alone with Ye Chen anymore!

Seriously, it never stopped!

"We're new here and don't know anything about this place. Could you tell us about the local customs and culture of Daxing?"

He then pointed to the chair next to Cui Xin and said, "Sit down and talk."

Cui Xin had just bowed and sat down when she suddenly felt a chill run through her body. She quickly stood up and looked at the source of her fear—

Ye Chen was looking at her with displeasure.

Cui Xin was flustered, but she forced herself to say, "This servant, this servant will speak while standing."

Lian Yao glanced at Ye Chen.

Ye Chen snorted and looked away.

Cui Xin breathed a sigh of relief.

How terrifying!

She felt like she was about to die!

After speaking haltingly to the two of them for a few moments, Lian Yao saw that she was quite frightened by Ye Chen, and had no choice but to let her leave.

After Cui Xin went out and closed the door, she quickly steadied herself by holding onto a pillar.

After calming down for a while, she recovered somewhat and, ignoring her still weak body, ran towards the courtyard where the Imperial Concubine resided.

Her timing was unfortunate; the emperor happened to be there as well, and the imperial concubine was serving her a meal.

"Why are you in such a panic?" the emperor asked with a stern expression.

Normally, if the emperor acted like this, Cui Xin would be so frightened that she wouldn't dare to breathe.

But now, she felt that the emperor's anger was nothing compared to the gaze of that Fairy Yaochen.

Cui Xin looked at Consort Qi.

Consort Qi said solemnly, "Your Majesty is asking you a question, so you should answer truthfully!"

"yes."

Cui Xin gritted her teeth and recounted how Ye Chen and Lian Yao claimed they needed to cultivate and forbade her to disturb them. They had been locked in their room for three days without eating or drinking, but had not stopped washing themselves.

With the Imperial Concubine present, she did not reveal that she had already entered the room and observed the condition of the two men.

The emperor was shocked. "What?"

He slammed the bowl down, refusing to eat anymore. "Hurry up and take me to see them! Useless thing, the two beauties aren't eating, can't you even bring them in!"

"This servant deserves to die!" Cui Xin cried and kowtowed.

After the emperor left, Consort Qi naturally followed behind with her entourage.

The group arrived at the place where Ye Chen and Lian Yao lived without knocking, and had the door kicked open.

Then, Fairy Lianye was sitting by the window, raising her foot to kick Fairy Yaochen, but Fairy Lianye caught her foot.

The emperor was stunned.

"My two fairies, this is..."

Yao Chen was somewhat angry: "We said we wanted to cultivate and not to come in and disturb us, so why are you kicking the door!"

"This... I heard that the two fairies haven't eaten or drunk anything for three days, and I was afraid something might have happened to them..."

“We’ve been practicing fasting for a long time, we don’t need to eat!” Yao Chen said impatiently.

Seeing that the two women looked perfectly normal, the emperor said, "This... I never imagined that you two fairies had already cultivated to such a level!"

"Is there anything else?"

Yao Chen's dismissive attitude slightly displeased the emperor, but he suppressed his displeasure when he thought that the two women in front of him were truly fairies.

Seeing that the Emperor was somewhat embarrassed, the Imperial Concubine said, "You two fairies, His Majesty originally intended to take us to the summer palace for a short stay, but we were delayed at the post station because we were attacked on the way and the Seventh Princess was injured. Now that the assassins have all been captured and the Seventh Princess's injuries have recovered somewhat, we plan to continue our journey to the summer palace."

"Yes, yes, the summer palace has beautiful scenery and hot springs. The two fairies must go together!" the emperor said.

Lian Yao's eyes lit up upon hearing this, and she jumped down from the windowsill, saying, "I haven't even seen Fan... Hot Spring yet, so thank you very much, Your Majesty!"

The emperor and Lian Yao exchanged a few more polite compliments before leaving with their entourage.

Two hours later, the convoy was ready again.

Consort Qi helped the Emperor into his carriage, but instead of returning to her own, she boarded the Seventh Princess's sedan chair.
