Chapter 149 The Vampire Queen Must Save Herself (Part 11)

While watching the bat system run around, Yu Ling also finished refining and converting her demonic cultivation. She saw that the map was almost fully lit up, and the vampires weren't as numerous as she had imagined. With that in mind, she let the system do whatever it wanted.

A few more days passed as Yu Ling continued to immerse herself in cultivation, until her ears were numb from the system's incessant calls.

"What is it?" System, you'd better give me a straight answer, or else...

The Bat System quickly displayed a video feed to Yu Ling and sent her an anxious voice.

[Host, host, something terrible has happened! I've spotted the male lead, Wilt, and the female lead, Evelyn. They seem to be heading towards the Papacy. What should we do, host?!]

"The Vatican? What are these two brainless idiots doing at the Vatican? Are they going to their deaths?" Yu Ling was full of questions.

The Pope himself is not actually particularly weak, but he has many tools to restrain vampires, as well as bizarre magic arrays and rituals developed by humans over the ages. Even the original owner of this body at full strength might not be able to escape unscathed. Their behavior of walking into the tiger's den is obviously a death wish.

"[They don't know either...]" the system replied weakly. "[Host, they're the main characters, we can't let them die in our survival mission... Should we go and stop them?]"

"No need. You secretly keep an eye on the whereabouts of the male and female protagonists from a distance, but don't let the people from the Vatican find out. Let them go."

Although the system's words made a lot of sense, Yu Ling frowned and thought for a while before choosing to refuse.

Based on the information she currently possesses, the Pope is likely someone who cares a lot about his image and is most skilled at lying through his teeth and making his evil deeds appear virtuous and righteous. He's a master of these skills, so the male and female leads won't die anytime soon.

Of course, the most important point is that Yu Ling would rather be dragged down with them and die together than be teammates with such idiots, as that would make her unhappy and miserable.

[Yes, Master!] The system felt much more at ease after receiving confirmation. Even though it didn't understand Yu Ling's intentions, it dutifully went to do its work.

I feel like I'm gradually becoming a lowly wage earner... and I don't even get overtime pay.

The bat system continued its remote surveillance, Yu Ling continued her cultivation to heal her injuries, and the male and female protagonists they were talking about had already arrived hand in hand at the Vatican's prayer room to await the Pope's arrival.

During this trip to the Papacy, the male protagonist Wilt and the female protagonist Evelyn were determined to achieve their goal. They had long forgotten about the "destroyed" Yu Ling and were only concerned with enjoying their rare, open time together.

"Earl Wilt, may I ask what brings you here?"

"The Queen has already faced the consequences of her actions, as you should have heard. I've come to ask you to fulfill your promise and help Evelyn become an immortal."

"Haha, you're joking. I don't recall us reaching any agreement, or making any promises."

The Pope's words left Wilt speechless. He quickly realized that even during their verbal conversation, every word the Pope uttered was a veiled innuendo, and he hadn't actually made a single promise.

But he was, after all, a count, and had the power to earn his dignity, so he took the only chair opposite the Pope and said:

"If you don't want me to stay, you'd better stay in the prayer hall. You'd better do as I say. I know your race has ways to solve the problem of lifespan."

pope:\"......"

Is Earl Wilt out of his mind? A vampire using his residence in the Papacy as a threat? Isn't that like an old man hanging himself?

He remained silent for a long time before slowly saying:

"Human lifespan is predetermined; very few live past a hundred. Even the most immortal cannot live past five hundred years, and there are serious consequences."

For example, they become dry and ugly if they don't drink blood; they are more afraid of the sun than vampires; they get poisoned if they eat garlic or touch silver.

"These are not problems." Wilt scoffed dismissively.

The Pope smiled benevolently: "If you're willing to take the risk, helping Miss Evelyn become immortal is no problem, but you need to do one thing for me first." He was setting a trap.

"Okay! I'll do anything as long as Evelyn stays with me for a long, long time."

After Wilt finished speaking, he stared seriously at the Pope sitting opposite him and said,

"What do you want me to do?"

The Pope nodded slightly. It seemed that his plan had succeeded this time. Although Wilt was powerful, he was arrogant and conceited. He even agreed to the enemy's conditions under the influence of a vague and illusory love.

"This is simple, there's no rush. You just need to stay here, live like a human, and stay with Miss Evelyn for a few days while the preparations are complete, then we can begin the ceremony."

The Pope had figured out Wilt's thoughts perfectly. This was yet another trap. His real aim was to get Wilt to stay nearby so he could carry out the arrest operation. By bringing it up in such a straightforward way, he wasn't afraid Wilt wouldn't agree.

"No problem." The male protagonist took the bait.

"By the way, be mindful of your status, Earl Wilt. Avoid being too high-profile, or you'll cause unnecessary trouble and panic." Upon hearing the Pope's words, Wilt's choice is likely to remain indoors and avoid social interaction rather than emulate human habits.

Will nodded. It was the last thing he liked to compromise himself, and under normal circumstances, he would not bother with others at all. But this was different. It was a sacrifice made for Evelyn, so he naturally agreed.

So he stood up and said to the Pope:

"I understand. I will stay here for the time being. Please rest assured, I will cooperate fully. Regarding Evelyn, I hope you won't disappoint me, Pope of Humanity."

"Good." The Pope nodded in satisfaction. His goal had been achieved, and now it was his turn.

Once Wilt and Evelyn left, the atmosphere in the church suddenly became oppressive. Everyone just looked at each other, understanding the meaning in each other's eyes.

"Where is our Knight Commander?" The Pope's expression remained one of compassionate piety. "Tell him to go find Alvin and tell him that his lovely junior has taken the bait."

This "telling" is not just a simple verbal message. The Knight Commander's appearance will definitely end in a battle. In addition, the Pope did not say "notify," which means that Alvin did something that needed to be reprimanded.

A vampire count, one of the earliest to fight against the original owner and humans, was treated with such contempt by the Pope, yet the people in the entire church seemed to have taken it all for granted...
