Chapter 281 The Beastman Priest Must Save Himself (Part 8)

Hearing the noise, the little snakes in the cave poked their heads out and looked toward the source of the sound. Their green eyes were like a sky full of stars, a nightmare for anyone with trypophobia. Each snake had night vision and immediately noticed that the snake that was taking care of them had been replaced by a strange, long-eared orc they had never seen before.

Yu Ling doesn't have trypophobia, nor is she afraid of being harmed by snake venom. Her soul detection is not much different from night vision. She was just momentarily taken aback by She Huihui's attitude.

It's just taking care of some small snakes, is it really necessary to act like this is a major threat? The cubs are a bit troublesome, but if they misbehave, just twist them into a pretzel and give them a good beating, right?!

"Little snakes, I am the temporary priest of the snake clan. I will later teach you how to offer your most sincere faith to the Beast God..."

Yu Ling's opening remarks were dry but necessary; at least they immediately drew the attention of all the little snakes to him. He continued...

"If you still have any questions, you can ask them now."

As soon as Yu Ling spoke, a barrage of questions, mixed with hissing sounds, echoed through the cave.

Little Snake Armor: "Priest, why are your ears so long?"

Little Snake B: "Priest, what is a Beast God? Is it a being even more powerful than Lord Serpent Flame?"

Little Snake C: "Lectures are so boring, let's play games instead!"

Little Snake Ding: "What is a priest?"

The newly hatched, speechless little snake: ".......hiss......."

Problems kept arising one after another, and some were even said at the same time. What was even more terrifying was that the cave was an echoing place, making it impossible to hear what the little snakes were saying. This chorus was a disaster for the rabbits with their sensitive ears, and they almost sent Yu Ling to her death.

"Stop—!!!" Yu Ling shouted, punching the stone wall next to her to create a physical silence. Stone fragments flew everywhere, and the little snakes all quieted down.

"Ask them one by one, you go first!"

Yu Ling pointed to the little flower snake that was closest to him.

"Hiss—Priest brother, what did you do wrong to be punished and sent here?"

The little snakes stared at him with their big, green eyes, their gazes filled with a thirst for knowledge.

"Make a mistake? Why do you say that?" Yu Ling smiled and said, "I am a priestess, an emissary of the Beast God. I am here to spread the Beast God's deeds to you cubs, so that more beastmen will believe in the Beast God and receive his protection! It's not because I made a mistake."

"I see." The little snake's tone was filled with deep confusion. "But Uncle Gray Snake always says, what did he do wrong to end up taking care of us...?"

"Yes, he also said it must be the result of his sins in his past life."

"They even said he was just unlucky to be assigned here!"

The little snakes beside him chimed in, adding their own comments, perfectly capturing the image of the vengeful snake, Huhu.

The little snake probably realized she had asked the wrong question, so she added, "I'm sorry, priest brother, I was just too curious to ask."

Yu Ling responded with silence:.........

Good heavens! Gray Snake, what exactly did you say to these little snakes?!

After answering some meaningless, childish questions from the little snakes, Yu Ling quickly transitioned into her formal lesson. Surrounded by the snakes, she sat in the center of the cave and began to speak softly, as if telling a bedtime story to a child:

"Alright, since you all have no questions, then let me, the temporary priestess, test you..." Yu Ling glanced at the little snakes, who then looked at him in perfect unison. "Since there are no objections, then I'll begin asking."

"Okay~" A childish echo xN

Yu Ling thought for a moment and asked, "Do you know what a Beast God is? You can try to guess."

This question is actually not difficult to answer. According to the children's worldview, we can just apply it to the strongest creature they can think of. The little snakes' answers were incoherent and disjointed, but if we organize them, we can get some relevant answers.

—The Beast God is the richest of the gods. The snake tribe was able to dominate the tribe because the Beast God bestowed upon them great power and wisdom!

—The Beast God does not grant any good beastmen greater power. On the contrary, beastmen who do wrong will be punished by the Beast God. The snake tribe was too greedy and wanted to devour more tribes, which angered the Beast God, so he punished them by making them sleepy every day.

—The Beast God is omnipotent!

There were many more brilliant answers. In just a few words during the chat, those little snakes with their wildly imaginative minds almost finished writing the story of the Beast God for Yu Ling, which made Yu Ling's work go much more smoothly.

"Do you want to become lucky orcs blessed by the Beast God? To possess wisdom and strength, lead everyone to hunt more prey, and overcome all kinds of natural disasters?"

After Yu Ling finished speaking, all the little snakes who had never thought about such a profound question fell silent. Yu Ling did not urge them, but waited for them to figure it out on their own.

After a long while, a small snake timidly raised its hand and said, "Priest, I must ask you a question first..."

"Ask away," Yu Ling said, her tone relaxed and without the slightest hint of nervousness.

The little snake hesitated for a moment and asked, "Priest, if I do something wrong after receiving your protection and anger the Beast God, won't I attract more of the Beast God's attention than a beastman who hasn't received protection? What should I do then?"

Wow, this little guy is thinking pretty far ahead. He's smart, but even the smartest person has to be fooled first.

"Rest assured, the Beast God watches over every beastman impartially, and his faith will not increase or decrease in the slightest because of your belief or slander."

Yu Ling looked at the little snake with encouraging eyes, causing a sliver of red light to emerge from the dark cave filled with green dots.

“Tell me your answer, little snake.”

"I want to be blessed by the Beast God, but afterwards I also want to become a priest like you, to pass on the Beast God's power to every orc!"

What a sophisticated answer! To become an orc like a high priest?

This answer shocked Yu Ling, who hadn't even started her deception yet, and it also won the unanimous approval of the other little snakes. The whole cave echoed with voices of "Me too!", "Me too!", and "I want to be a priest too!"

"Good, good, good!" Yu Ling said "good" three times in a row. Sure enough, the cubs are the most innocent! Then, he took advantage of the moment to praise each of the little snakes that were quite priestly.

Outside the cave, Snake Gray had been wandering around for quite some time. Unable to hear the voices inside clearly, he assumed the noise was just another prank and began to pray for Yu Ling in his heart.
