Mo Xi looked at her younger sister, who was standing there and didn't come over.
A polite but distant smile played on his lips, while a fleeting hint of nervousness flickered in his eyes.
My sister is acting strange.
"Sister, come here."
Mo Xi waved to Mo Yan, and as he watched Mo Yan slowly walk over, the light in his eyes dimmed.
His younger sister didn't rush over, nor did she mischievously ask him for candy.
My sister's favorite rooster milk candy.
"Big brother."
The distant "elder brother" made Mo Xi feel even more uncomfortable.
"Hmm, are you hungry? Let's eat."
He didn't even take out the candy from his pocket. His sister has become distant from him.
"Why are you making that face? Little sister, don't hold it against your brother. How long are you staying this time? Can you stay for half a month?"
Fang Miao glared at Mo Xi, but Mo Xi acted as if she hadn't seen it and took off her coat and put it away.
"My younger sister just got back, and you're already saying things like that, sister-in-law. Doesn't that make us all feel bad?"
Mo Hua disliked her sister-in-law the most, as if she were the mistress of the house and the sisters were outsiders.
"About a month, I'm not sure. I think I can study properly here."
When Mo Yan said those words, the expressions on their faces changed.
Mo Xi frowned, a hint of disapproval flashing in his eyes.
Fang Miao was somewhat displeased, but quickly concealed it.
Mo Hua was surprised.
Mo Yan saw it all; it seemed they didn't really want her to stay.
That would be interesting.
“Sure, it’s better to be at home. You can take the college entrance exam here, and I’ll tutor you.”
Mo Hua was the first to react and immediately went over to take Mo Yan's hand.
"This isn't a good idea, isn't it? Aren't you a sent-down youth?" Fang Miao asked stiffly. If Mo Yan stayed, then...
Mo Xi did not speak.
When Mom brought out the soup, she was delighted to hear this.
"It's good that you're not going back. Look how thin you've become. Who knows what you'll look like if you go back. Come on, eat."
Mo Yan washed her hands before sitting down.
Seeing Mo Yan's actions, Fang Miao smiled and said, "Little sister went to the countryside and she's still so clean."
"Thank you for the compliment," Mo Yan said calmly.
Fang Miao: "..." She didn't praise her.
Mo Hua noticed that although her sister-in-law didn't argue with her directly like before, she still managed to leave Fang Miao speechless. She was indeed worthy of being her sister.
Mo's mother served soup to each of them; it was their family custom to drink soup before eating.
Lily bulb and lotus seed soup, sweet and sour pork ribs, braised lion's head meatballs, stir-fried Chinese cabbage, and a dish of braised chicken with potatoes.
These are all hearty dishes; in those days of scarcity, they were quite a treat.
No one spoke while eating; the only sound was the spoon hitting the bowl.
After dinner, Mo Yan helped clean up in the kitchen when Fang Miao suddenly said something.
"My little sister used to be completely useless."
Mo Yan stopped, turned around and looked at Fang Miao, "Sister-in-law, if you go to the countryside for a year, you'll learn everything."
I was just about to ask her, how did my sister-in-law know about my marriage?
"Who told you that? When did you become so concerned about me? Or is it some small village where you know someone, sister-in-law?"
Mo Yan didn't expect that Fang Miao would be so impatient before she even made a move.
Does her statement imply that she doesn't really belong to Mo Yan?
“I…” Fang Miao suddenly didn’t know how to respond, “My distant relative is a former educated youth from that village. She wrote back to tell me that you got married.”
"Little sister, what do you mean by getting married?" Mo Xi's face darkened even more upon hearing this.
