In Zhou Yan's heart, although Zhou Xiaoyu was his daughter, he didn't have much affection for her. Especially in the last two years, after he made some money, he became a bit arrogant and always felt that he would be letting down his ancestors if he didn't have a son.
People said he was childless, which made him feel terrible, so he wanted to have a second child. But having Zhou Xiaoyu was impossible, so his mother said they should just give Zhou Xiaoyu away, and he thought that made sense.
Zhou Yan was never a good person to begin with. He favored boys over girls, and since he had barely met Xiaoyu and had no feelings for her, abandoning her was perfectly normal for him.
"Zhou Yan, what are you doing? My sister just wanted to give you guys a quick get-together with your trash, what did she do wrong?" Mo Bai replied without hesitation.
Mo Yan almost laughed when she heard this, but looking at his face, she raised her hand and slapped him again. "I think you can't speak like a human being, so I'll teach you a lesson."
Zhou Yan: "..."
"Anyone who dares to touch my daughter will be taught a lesson."
Zhou Yan: "..."
"Mo Bai, take him to the police station. Don't let such a disgusting piece of trash get out of the house again. He's a disgrace."
As Mo Yan spoke, she held Zhou Xiaoyu's hand the whole time, which warmed Xiaoyu's heart.
Zhou Yan was taken away by Mo Bai. Mo Yan looked at Xiao Yu and said, "Xiao Yu, there are always some trash in this world who think that what they insist on is the most correct, but they don't know that what they insist on is a joke."
"Mom, he doesn't like me because I'm not a boy." Zhou Xiaoyu was still a little sad. She envied those fathers who could pick her up and lift her up high.
“That’s normal. Not everyone likes Mom. Your grandma doesn’t like Mom either, right? We can’t expect everyone to like us. If someone doesn’t like you, then you don’t have to like them either, right?”
Mo Yan squatted down and looked at the little girl, reaching out to smooth her hair.
"Is it okay?" Zhou Xiaoyu was a little confused. So it was possible for her not to like her father?
Yes, Zhou Xiaoyu knew it was her father, because her grandmother often took out his photos to look at.
"Of course you can. He doesn't have to like you, and you don't have to like him either, but he is still your father. When he gets old, you'll have to give him living expenses, because you wouldn't have come into this world without him, understand?"
No one says you have to like this kind of father, and Mo Yan didn't think there was anything wrong with what she said.
We can't expect everyone to like us. But we must like ourselves, understand?
Xiaoyu nodded somewhat bewildered. She didn't really understand, but she would listen to her mother.
"good."
Mo Yan asked Mo Bai to help her rent a house near the school in the county town. The house was right across from the school, and there was a storefront with two bedrooms and a living room upstairs. It was a bit expensive, costing 3,000 yuan a year. Mo Yan paid the money directly, and she could take Zhou Xiaoyu to register for school as soon as she was discharged from the hospital.
The case went to trial quickly. Mo Yan and the driver appeared in court as witnesses, and Xiao Yu was the victim.
Xiaoyu didn't know what to do, so Moyan told her to just tell the truth and not to think about anything else.
Children don't need to be told what to say; they just need to tell the truth.
In court, both the Lin family and the human traffickers stared intently at Xiaoyu. Xiaoyu was a little scared, but after looking at her mother beside her, she regained her courage and was no longer afraid.
"Little friend, can you tell me who are those people on the other side? What do they want to do?"
"My name is Zhou Xiaoyu. The person opposite me is my grandma, and there are three other people I don't recognize. My grandma said they are relatives from our hometown and told me to follow them."
I overheard them telling my grandma that they were going to send me off to be someone's daughter-in-law, and that they never wanted to see me again.
I was terrified. I didn't want to go; I wanted to stay home and wait for my mom to come back, so I kept struggling. My grandma slapped me twice.
At this point, Xiaoyu was too afraid to look at Lin Shi, because her eyes were particularly terrifying.
"Mr. Lin, please watch your expression. Are you trying to scare the child in court?" The lawyer spoke directly to Ms. Lin.
Ms. Lin was asked to turn around. She glanced at the police officers beside her and had no choice but to turn around.
"Don't be afraid, little one, continue."
“My grandma doesn’t like me,” Zhou Xiaoyu said, lowering her head as she tried to hide the tears in her eyes, her sadness and heartbreak. “She said I was a money-losing burden, that I would belong to someone else sooner or later, that I was just a useless person at home, and that I was the reason my family line ended. She even said that it would be better if I weren’t there, that my dad could have a son without me.”
She said I didn't need to go to school; it was a waste of money and time. She said I should just stay home and work like a slave, since I'd have to learn all this anyway when I went to someone else's house.
She said I was just an unwanted old woman, even my own mother wouldn't want me.
She said I should just die out there.
Suddenly, Zhou Xiaoyu raised her head and looked at Lin's back. "Grandma, you're wrong. My mother said she loves me very much and she will want me."
Zhou Xiaoyu was uncertain about the past. When she was still in school, there were children in her class whose parents worked away from home. Their parents would come back for the Spring Festival and buy them beautiful new clothes. Every year, she hoped that her parents would suddenly appear, but they never did.
But just when she was in despair and ready to accept her fate, her mother came back. Her mother said that her grandmother was wrong and that she loved her very much.
