A man's voice came from above them.
The two women looked up and saw a man carrying a hoe looking down at them from the hillside above.
From here, you can't see that person's face at all.
"Yes, that's right. We're here for a home visit. Xiaohong hasn't been to school for the past two days, and the principal asked us to check on her. What's wrong with her?"
The man didn't say anything, he just turned and left.
The two were even more puzzled. Turtle stared at the spot for a long time before following them.
The man wasn't walking very fast, as if he was deliberately waiting for them there.
The senior student quickly went over and asked, "Hello, are you Xiaohong's father?"
“Yes, come with me. She’s not feeling well, and I don’t know what’s wrong.”
Hearing that the child was uncomfortable, the two of them sped up considerably.
They walked up the mountain, and walked a very, very long way until they could no longer see the village below.
Only then did we see a small thatched hut in the distance.
They quickly went over.
My feet are a little sore from walking for so long.
When they arrived at the thatched hut, the man pushed open the door.
"Go and take a look, she's in the innermost room."
The two women, without suspecting anything, went inside.
The room was a bit dark; there were no lights here, and it seemed like there were no windows at the back.
The moment they went in, they closed their eyes, and opened them a long time later...
A face suddenly appears!
"ah!"
The senior students were startled. When they looked, they saw an old woman whose expressionless face was somewhat frightening.
Who are you?
The old woman's voice was cold and somewhat frightening.
"Hello, we are the child's teachers, and we are here for a home visit today. We are so sorry, but where is Xiaohong?"
Upon hearing this, the old lady looked the two people up and down, "Not bad..."
It's unclear whether those two words refer to Xiao Hong or to them.
The little turtle looked at the child, who was lying there, seemingly asleep, or perhaps...
"You're Xiaohong's grandma, right? May we go over and see her?"
"Go ahead, we'll eat here later."
The old lady went out and then closed the door.
The door creaked open, and the sound echoed in the air.
The senior student felt a chill run down her back, and when she looked down, she realized she had goosebumps.
That old lady was a bit scary.
The room was still dark, and they could only vaguely see Xiao Hong through the light filtering through the cracks in the door.
They walked over.
Xiao Hong seems to have fallen asleep.
"Xiao Hong, Xiao Hong, wake up quickly."
The senior student went over and quickly called to the young girl.
Xiao Hong seemed to sense the sound. Her eyelashes grew longer, and she slowly opened her eyes. When she saw them coming, she moved her lips as if she wanted to say something, but no sound came out.
What Xiaohong wanted to say was, "Hurry up, hurry up!"
Xiaohong got sick because she discovered a secret she shouldn't have.
She found her mother.
My mother was locked up, and many other people were locked up.
Xiaohong is a very sensible little girl. She helps with housework every day after she comes home, but her father and grandmother never like her.
She was well aware of this, so she could only work twice as hard.
She missed her mother and even wanted to ask her father where her mother had gone.
She didn't dare, afraid of being beaten.
But they heard from other villagers that their mothers had all run away.
They also said that those were all sluts, disgusting things, and rotten things.
After listening for a while, the other children also became indifferent, but Xiaohong still envied those who had mothers.
Her home is halfway up the mountain, and they are the only family there. After returning today, she will go to the mountains to cut pig feed.
Two days ago, she accidentally fell into a small ravine and discovered a cave there. When she went over, she saw many people from the village...
I also saw a lot of women.
She saw her mother.
Her mother didn't like her either.
In the past, her mother would always scold her and tell her to get out.
Then my mother disappeared.
So that's where it was.
She tried to go in, but her father caught her, beat her severely, and gave her medicine.
She had been in a daze, and when she woke up again, it was now. She wanted to tell them, "Hurry, hurry..."
No matter how hard she tried, she couldn't make a sound.
"Quick...go..."
These were the words Xiaohong desperately uttered, but her senior couldn't hear them.
The little turtle sensed that something was wrong with Little Red, reached out and touched her head; it was very hot…
The little turtle took out a bamboo stick and touched her forehead.
Xiao Hong felt a warm sensation in her head... and she felt like she had regained some strength.
She looked at Turtle Sister with surprise, "You... leave quickly."
Just then, the door opened again.
The man came in, carrying a bowl of cured pork and potato soup. After placing it on the table, he lit a kerosene lamp.
Now, this place finally has a glimmer of light.
They could also see the vegetables in the bowl. The cured pork was cut into pieces the size of braised pork, and it looked delicious. There were also potatoes and sausages, and bright green garlic sprouts on top.
The senior student quickly turned away, drooling.
The conditions here are really tough. They only send over a little food each week. There's practically nothing in her stomach. The food is very bland. She's lost weight since she came here.
Now, when I see cured meat... I can't help but drool.
