Chapter 103 The Neglected Second Son (13)

Everything seemed to be on track, but then Lin Jingyue received a phone call.

Two days ago, the original owner's father suddenly fainted at home and was taken to the hospital. After several days of examinations, a brain hemorrhage was diagnosed. Now the whole family is discussing surgery, but the biggest problem is that they don't have enough money.

As a child in the family, she should have gone to check on things.

She initially didn't want to go, but then she thought that this illness might be the last time she saw the patient, so she decided to go anyway. After all, there was a family connection involved, and she wasn't a heartless person.

Thinking of the stories circulating online about parents faking illness to get their children to go home for blind dates, Lin Jingyue didn't tell them she was coming back. It wasn't until she arrived at the hospital that she discovered they weren't lying.

Lin's father lay on the hospital bed, wearing an oxygen mask and connected to an electrocardiogram via numerous wires. His heart rate was low, and his condition appeared very serious.

The person sitting by his bedside wasn't his three dutiful sons, but his wife. His wife, who had endured a lifetime of emotional abuse, sat there with a worried expression, lost in thought.

Lin Jingyue opened the door and went in, placing the fruit basket she had bought on the bedside table next to her. "What's going on? What did the doctor say?"

When Lin's mother saw her, she was overjoyed for a moment, but then her heart sank again as she remembered the doctor's words. "The situation is not good. The doctor said that the chances of the surgery being successful are slim, but without surgery, it will be difficult for him to wake up on his own."

A brain hemorrhage with symptoms of blood clots would be extremely critical without surgical removal of the clots. However, given that the condition is in the brain, the chances of successful surgery are slim.

It's like being stabbed whether you stick your head out or not; it's just a matter of choosing which way to go.

"Yueyue, how much money do you have? We want to have the surgery, but we don't have enough money. Could you lend it to me first? I'll pay you back once your dad recovers," Lin's mother asked anxiously.

She was terrified that her husband wouldn't wake up; if he didn't, she wouldn't have the courage to live anymore.

Lin's mother was a very typical and traditional woman. She believed that the husband was the head of the household and that men were the woman's everything. She obeyed her father at home and her husband after marriage. She truly embodied this principle to the fullest extent.

She was actually quite good to the original owner, after all, he was her own child, how could she not feel sorry for him?

But all these good things seemed insignificant in front of her son.

Now that her children are all married, she lives with Lao Lin, sometimes with her eldest son, sometimes with her second son, and then with her third son. She moves between the three sons, never staying for very long.

She was afraid that after her husband left, they would no longer care about her. Even though she was their mother, she was still afraid and insecure.

Lin Jingyue sighed, "I don't have much money. I'm having trouble even eating. You know I'm not doing well either. What about my older brother and the others? Dad's in this situation, and they don't even come to visit?"

“Your older brother and the others have to work and don’t have time to come, so I can take care of them.”

Even now, she's still speaking up for her good sons.

Lin Jingyue chuckled softly, pulled out a chair and sat down. Looking at her elderly father, she felt a slight sense of satisfaction. Her father didn't hit people, but his actions were practically no different from hitting someone.

You are a girl, so you should take on the household chores.

Why are you, a girl, fighting with a boy for a chicken leg? That's for your brother.

I raised you, so you have to repay me. The husband I found for you, you have to marry him!

Stop calling unless it's absolutely necessary. You're already married, why do you still need to contact your family? Don't you know that a married daughter is like water spilled from a cup?

Those words still linger in my mind.

“When Dad was young, he doted on his brothers the most. Now that he’s fallen ill, all they do is offer a few words of comfort? They’re not as filial as their daughter, at least I can come and visit.” She laughed sarcastically.

Lin's mother found her daughter's words particularly harsh and said with some displeasure, "Yueyue, your older brother and the others can't lose their jobs. Besides, they don't know how to take care of people. Asking them to come over would only cause more trouble."

"puff!"

Even more ridiculous, because they're afraid this person won't do a good job, they'll let someone else who can do it do it. Is that fair to the other person?

"Go ahead and have the surgery if you want, I have no objection. Of course, you won't listen to anything I say anyway. As for the cost, I'll pay whatever my older brother and his family contribute."

"He's your father, are you just going to watch him die like this?" Lin's mother's eyes were a little red, clearly she couldn't believe that her child could be so cold-blooded.

"I only paid for it because he's my dad. If it were anyone else, I wouldn't even give it a second glance."

Lin Jingyue stood up, went to the bedside, looked at the unconscious old man on the bed, and smiled, "You'd better pray that your good son can raise more money, so that I can give you more."

After saying that, she turned and left.

Paying more money is out of the question; she'll just pay the same amount as everyone else. If she were any more ruthless, she wouldn't even want to pay.

The pain of one's original family cannot be explained in just a few words.

After leaving the hospital, she thought of Li Chengyi, whom she had asked Tang Yun to take care of. The little boy would go over to her and ask, "Mommy, does it hurt?" when the original owner was beaten.

When the original owner was a child, she saw her mother working very hard, while her older brothers were like good-for-nothings, just sitting by and doing nothing. She felt sorry for her mother's hardships, so she started to help with housework at a young age.

Every time, the mother said no, no, but every time she couldn't persuade the original owner of the body. Was it really that she couldn't persuade her?

I care about you the most, but you think I'm the easiest to boss around.

Shaking off the unpleasant memories in her mind, she turned on her phone and called Li Chengyi.

I bought him a smartwatch on his first day of school so that it would be easy to contact him and it could also locate him.

"Hello? Mom?"

The phone was making a soft sound, but I could hear what he was saying.

"Xiaoyi, how are you doing at your uncle's house? Have you been good? Mom will be back in a couple of days, don't be scared."

"Mom, I'm fine. I'm waiting for you at Uncle's house," Li Chengyi said, word by word, into his smartwatch.

"Okay, Mom will be back soon, not too long."

After exchanging a few words, the call ended.

There still needs to be a proper procedure regarding the original owner's biological father; she doesn't want this family to affect her mood in the future.

In short, she only knew two words: pretending to be poor!
