Chapter 40 The Seventies' Zhaodi Becomes a Precious Pearl (40)

The next day, Lin Jingyue tidied herself up before going out, even wearing the coat she wore when she first met Zhao Weiguo. Her hair was styled in a fishtail braid, revealing her fair forehead, with wisps of hair fluttering in the wind.

She looks like a young woman who just graduated, but she's not exactly fair-skinned and clean-shaven. There's nothing she can do about it; six months isn't enough to achieve that level of health, and she doesn't have any magic pills or supplements.

When I arrived at my post, Zhou Yingying jokingly said, "Sister, you're dressed so nicely, has something good happened to you recently?"

She's been getting her meals from the cafeteria by herself these past two days, and she's also heard that someone is waiting for Lin Jingyue at the entrance. Thinking about it, it seems to have happened after the last social gathering. Connecting the dots, she can pretty much guess what's going on.

"Whether there's good news or not depends on today. Anyway, how have you been lately? How's that guy I met last time?"

Zhou Yingying also met a guy she found quite attractive at the social event. They bumped into each other by chance and got to know each other after chatting for a while. They then exchanged information.

Originally, Zhou's mother thought there was little hope for her child today, since she had introduced several children to her but was not satisfied with any of them. Unexpectedly, the child went to find someone on his own.

“My mom’s idea is that we should date for now and not rush into marriage. We can talk about marriage when we find a suitable time. But I feel like that might be too fast. I’m not ready for marriage yet.” Zhou Yingying fidgeted with her fingers, looking a little uneasy.

Lin Jingyue expressed her understanding; discussing marriage after only knowing each other for a few days was indeed too fast. However, it was their family matter, and she couldn't say too much, only offering her opinion.

"Your mother wants you to get to know each other first so she can see if you're compatible. You should also pay attention to this. If there's anything about the other person that makes you uncomfortable, go back and ask your mother if she's right. You still have time to adjust. When you really feel it's right, you won't feel like you're getting married too early."

“That’s true. Anyway, I tell my mom everything. I just listen to whatever she says.” Zhou Yingying, a mama’s girl, is not ashamed of it, but rather proud of it.

As we chatted, it was time to leave work.

Zhou Yingying politely greeted Lin Jingyue and then went to the cafeteria to eat by herself.

Lin Jingyue had already spoken to Zhao Weiguo, asking him to go to the state-run restaurant to order first, and then she would bring the child there.

But as soon as I stepped outside, I saw her standing in the cold wind, carrying her things. Her nose was red from the wind, but she still flashed a bright smile the moment I saw her.

"Didn't I tell you to wait at the state-run restaurant? Why did you come here?" She walked over quickly.

It's going to be a bit cold today, because it's windy and the temperature is low. But the man seems oblivious to the cold, coming to pick up his colleague from work as usual.

"It's not like we're in a rush, so I thought we could go together. That way, we can eat something hot. What if I go too early and the food gets cold by the time you arrive?"

Lin Jingyue kicked a pebble by the roadside and asked haughtily, "Aren't you cold?"

"It's not cold. There were times when it was even colder during previous missions. This is nothing compared to what I've experienced," the other person said honestly.

If someone were a dating expert, they would say in a pitiful tone, "It's a bit cold, but the moment I saw you, I felt all the waiting was worth it."

However, such greasy sweet talk is not something a rough guy like him would say, so don't even dream about those scenes from idol dramas.

"Let's go, I'll go pick up the kids from school first."

"Okay, let's go."

The weather is getting colder now, and school lets out earlier.

Little Mingyue knew she was going to eat at a state-run restaurant today and that her mother would pick her up, so she obediently waited at the school gate.

"Aren't you going home?" Wang Laidi, wearing a tattered cotton-padded coat, looked at Chen Mingyue with a puzzled expression.

“My mom will pick me up today, so I won’t be going home by myself. Oh, right, didn’t I leave you a workbook today? Look at it a few times, and if you don’t understand it, just memorize it. You’ll eventually understand it.”

"Thank you, Mingyue!" Wang Laidi said gratefully. "I'll wait with you. I don't want to go home so soon."

Moreover, she truly envied that gentle and kind mother. If she had a mother like that, wouldn't she be spared from being bullied at home?

Let her be a little greedy; she only wanted to take a look and had no other intentions.

"You're coming home late, won't your parents scold you? If it's really too late, go home first, don't waste your time." Xiaomingyue was a little worried.

This classmate always carries injuries, often getting new ones from old ones, but none of them are on her face, so no one notices. She would feel guilty if she were scolded or beaten when she got back because she was a little late.

Wang Laidi shook her head. "I'm fine, I just got scolded a few times. Why don't you explain the problem to me? It won't be a waste of time."

"Oh well."

The two girls stood at the school gate. One girl spoke, and the other girl nodded obediently. The scene looked very harmonious.

When Lin Jingyue arrived, this was the scene she saw.

"Honey, I'm here to pick you up. Are you cold? Have you been waiting long?"

"Mom!" Little Mingyue walked over happily.

Wang Laidi stepped forward shyly to greet her, "Hello, Auntie."

"Hello, Comrade Xiao Wang. You've been standing here for so long, are you hungry? Auntie has some peach shortbread here, take it and have some to tide you over." She said, and was about to hand over the peach shortbread.

The other person waved her hands repeatedly, "No need, no need, Auntie, I only waited for a little while, not long at all. Besides, Mingyue just explained the problem to me, and she even gave me a workbook before. I've already taken enough."

"It's just a peach shortbread, nothing expensive. Take it and eat it. If you need more, Auntie has more." Lin Jingyue simply stuffed the oil paper bag into her hand.

After spending so much time with her, she knew that Xiaomingyue's deskmate was indeed a girl with a difficult life, but also a pretty good personality. A poor family background wasn't a flaw, as long as the person was good, so she was happy for her child to have this friend.

Since she's the child's friend, shouldn't she give her some face? The saying "love me, love my dog" applies here; naturally, she'll like the child's friend because she likes the child.

Most importantly, I'm a bit tired of peach shortbread and don't really want any more. Luckily, they haven't eaten yet, so I can help them finish it off.

"Auntie is leaving with Mingyue now. Goodbye, Comrade Xiao Wang!"

Wang Laidi watched the two figures, one tall and one short, their backs turned, tears welling in her eyes. She had never eaten peach shortbread before, nor had anyone ever called her Comrade Xiao Wang.

She learned countless firsts from Mingyue's mother and also understood what respect meant!
