Chapter 5 The 1970s: Zhao Di Cheng Baozhu (5)

Lin Jingyue, who was digging for medicinal herbs, suddenly heard this exclamation and her heart skipped a beat. She quickly turned around and went downstairs.

"What happened? What happened?" She rushed over, thinking that something had happened to Chen Mingyue.

But when I looked up, I saw her standing next to a clump of bushes, pointing inside with a bright, sparkling eye.

"Eggs." His tone was tinged with excitement.

Everyone knows there are pheasants in the mountains, but only the lucky ones can actually find pheasants or their eggs.

Unexpectedly, the child found a nest of wild eggs not long after he went up the mountain.

Lin Jingyue parted the bushes and saw six wild eggs inside. "I never expected my little darling to be such a lucky star, bringing such a big surprise to her mother as soon as we came up the mountain."

Since she was old enough to understand, Chen Mingyue had rarely encountered kindness. What she heard most were her grandmother's disdainful words and commanding tones. In the past two days, she had lost count of how many times she had heard the word "darling," but this was the first time she had been treated like such a precious gem.

Her cheeks flushed slightly, and her tone was firm, "Mom, I will find more wild eggs."

Lin Jingyue was taken aback, then sighed softly. Children who lack love often resort to transactions to obtain the love they crave. Chen Mingyue thought that finding the wild eggs meant she had received love, so she wanted to find more and receive even more love.

Thinking of this, she reached out and patted her little head, saying earnestly, "No matter how many wild eggs you find, they are all Mommy's precious treasures."

Spring planting has just ended, and although there's less work in the fields, everyone is still busy earning work points. So there aren't many people on the mountain; they just gather firewood when they're not working.

This benefited Lin Jingyue, who found many medicinal herbs and wild vegetables on the mountain. She didn't have the ability to catch pheasants or rabbits, but she did find a lot of wild eggs.

I gathered some firewood and put it on top of the basket, so you couldn't tell what was inside.

Before they knew it, it was noon. The two returned home, and Lin Jingyue was in charge of cooking, while Chen Mingyue was in charge of drying the medicinal herbs.

Because there's no oil, I can only make steamed eggs and boiled vegetables with a little salt.

The food was bland and tasteless, but at least it was better than what I had at the Chen family's house.

It was Chen Mingyue's first time eating steamed egg custard. When she saw a whole bowl of steamed egg custard in front of her, she stared blankly at her mother and asked, "Mom, is this for me?"

She could hardly believe it.

"Eat up, things will only get better from now on."

"Thank you, Mom." She sniffed, deeply moved.

Finally, she too became a child loved by her mother.

As Lin Jingyue ate her bland meal, her mind was elsewhere.

In those times, to survive, one had to work in the fields to earn work points. But she also knew that with her abilities, she wouldn't be able to earn many work points.

Therefore, finding a job is the most suitable option for her.

But while the idea was wonderful, the reality was very cruel.

Jobs aren't that easy to find. If there were so many jobs, there wouldn't have been so many educated youth sent to the countryside. Besides, even if she found someone selling a job, she wouldn't have the money to buy it.

This is absolutely a disastrous start.

After putting Chen Mingyue to sleep, Lin Jingyue sat on the edge of the bed, sorting through the information in her mind.

If you want to do business openly and honestly, you'll have to wait seven or eight years. Until then, there are only three options: work in the fields to earn work points, find a job in the city, or try to find a way to do business in that place.

After rejecting the first one, she also rejected the third one. It's best not to choose the third one unless absolutely necessary.

Therefore, work is the most important thing!

Perhaps she should go to the city to take a look. Opportunities are always for those who are prepared. She should inquire first; what if she gets lucky?

After resting for a while at noon, Lin Jingyue got up and tidied up the area around the house.

She couldn't repair the house herself, but she could make a simple fence to enclose it.

I had originally planned to go to the commune in the afternoon, but I didn't have enough time. After thinking it over, I finally decided to go to the purchasing station after I had accumulated a certain amount of medicinal herbs.

As for work, there's no rush.

So the next day, she went back to work in the fields.

Fortunately, it was past the busy farming season, so the work in the fields wasn't too strenuous, just a bit tiring.

She didn't send the child to anyone's house, but left him near where she worked, feeling more at ease having him under her watchful eye.

Chen Mingyue is a well-behaved child. Even when she is not doing housework at home, she will dig up some wild vegetables to take home in her spare time.

The mother and daughter supported each other, and although life was tough, they were in much better spirits than before.

In contrast, the atmosphere at the Chen family's home was rather tense.

The old workhorse is gone, and the maid who used to be bossed around has also left, so these tasks have been distributed to other people.

But the divorce is already over, so all I can do is think about it now. I regret being so impulsive back then; how could I have agreed to the divorce in such a fit of anger?

Lin Jingyue knew nothing about the Chen family's affairs. Besides going to work, she would also take her child up the mountain. Ostensibly, she was gathering firewood, but in reality, she was collecting medicinal herbs.

She didn't find any ginseng or lingzhi mushrooms, but if she had, she wouldn't have to worry about work points. However, she found a lot of wild eggs, so one egg a day for the time being shouldn't be a problem.

A week later, Lin Jingyue asked the team leader for leave and planned to go to the commune.
