After leaving the Cen family, Ai Cao stayed in the house that Cen Lan had given her.
The house was already simply furnished, so she only needed to add some furniture and appliances before starting her company and recruiting people on job websites.
She has some ideas about what type of game to make, but still needs to hire a game producer and get other people's opinions; in addition, there are also people who write code and draw art assets. Now she can handle the game's external publicity, so the staff in this area can be temporarily vacant and will be hired later.
Ai Cao plans to recruit a small team of about ten people.
Although ten people don't quite fit into this three-story office building, she can hire more people if she needs more later.
Her recruitment caused a small ripple online. But with Cen Lan as a precedent, many people saw her recruitment as following in the footsteps of the big boss Cen Lan, so it didn't attract much criticism.
Ai Cao received several resumes. She filtered out the male candidates and sent interview invitations to the remaining female candidates.
The location is this office building of hers.
The first visitor was a woman with long braids. She took two deep breaths outside the building and pushed open its semi-transparent glass door.
Facing us was a white wall marked with sword cuts. The cuts formed two beautiful characters—orchid.
This is the company's name.
The mugwort would not remain in this world, nor did she intend to leave her name behind. Yet, she obediently allowed herself to be held captive by the longsword that sprang from the pendant, and thus carved those two words here.
The woman paused for a moment before the two characters. Realizing that the characters belonged to the boss—or at least to someone she had requested to be engraved—she smiled.
This was the company lobby, but there was no reception desk; only a few sofas arranged in a rectangle in the corner. Two paths led to either side of the white wall. The woman hesitated for a moment, then walked to the entrance of the right path and glanced inside.
It looked like the road ended with a left turn. The woman guessed that the two roads formed a "口" shape, with both sides connecting. She confirmed her guess by checking the sign on the wall, then nodded with satisfaction and a touch of pride.
The interview room was on the ground floor.
She found the interview room by the door number and politely knocked on the door.
Ai Cao's voice, tinged with amusement, rang out: "Please come in."
The woman pushed open the door.
She saw Ai Cao with short hair and a suit, and her heart skipped a beat. She felt inexplicably nervous, but still handed her resume to Ai Cao and sat down in the only seat opposite her.
"Hello," Ai Cao said. She picked up a stack of files from the left side of the desk and smiled, saying, "Please introduce yourself first."
The woman introduced herself as usual.
She quickly finished reciting the information written in her resume. A subtle silence fell over the room—the woman swallowed hard, staring intently at the mugwort, awaiting the first question she was about to face.
Ai Cao thought for a moment and asked, "What are your dreams?"
The woman was stunned.
Ai Cao asked the question in a very calm tone, and it didn't seem like she was deliberately trying to make things difficult. And indeed, whether she wanted to give a "standard answer" or give her own answer, she might be able to please Ai Cao.
Seeing that she was still hesitating, Ai Cao smiled and said, "I'll go first. I want to change the world."
Her voice, filled with laughter, rang out clearly and brightly, like a mountain spring.
The woman hypnotized herself, thinking that this was all a trick by capital, that they were saying this to squeeze all the value out of her—but that others who were not capital were trying to break into her bones and suck out the last bit of nutrition.
Can she still trust the person in front of her—just because she cut her hair into an inappropriate short style?
The woman had never seen such short hair on any other woman. Ai Cao's hair was stubborn and messy, growing wildly on her head like a lush clump of weeds.
Moreover, the mugwort was not made up or dressed in luxurious clothes.
Does this mean... she won't need makeup or dressing up for her work anymore? She just needs to be herself—
Is it really possible for such a good thing to happen to her?
The woman blinked quickly, holding back her tears.
She asked, "What aspect of the world do you want to change?"
Ai Cao smiled, pointed to herself, and said, "Change my place in this world."
The woman almost couldn't help but hurl insults at the unscrupulous capitalist.
Artemisia said, "I want to change the position of women."
The woman coughed. She was choked by the sudden inhalation of air, but thankfully she quickly caught her breath.
She said, "...You must be joking with me."
Ai Cao smiled and said, "But this is indeed my dream." At least, it's her dream in this world. She can't actively provoke conflict in this world, so she can't create a suitable and reasonable reason for the deaths of a large number of men.
Therefore, all she can do is restrict men's work space and salaries, and improve women's working conditions.
She asked the woman, "And you? What is your dream?"
The woman quickly shrugged. She pulled her long braid in front of her and said, "I want to cut my hair."
“You can cut it now,” Ai Cao said. She took the scissors out of the pen holder and placed them on the desk directly in front of the woman.
She had already used these scissors to trim her hair and confirmed that they were a good pair.
The woman stared intently at the pair of scissors for a few seconds, then lowered her eyelashes and continued stroking her braid. She said, “I can’t cut it off… My mother says that if I cut off my braid, no man will marry me.”
“But you probably don’t like men,” Ai Cao said. Facing the woman’s surprised gaze, she smiled and said, “It’s okay, I don’t like men either—uh, I’m probably not a lesbian, you don’t need to be afraid.”
The woman chuckled. She said, "I don't have enough money to rent my own place yet, so I've been living with my parents. If I cut it off now, they'll argue. Once I've earned enough money, I'll cut it off myself."
The mugwort nodded.
They chatted about other work-related matters and then shook hands with smiles.
The interviewee left satisfied, while Ai Cao sat back down and sighed.
If only she could cut off every woman's long braid as easily as she cut off a man's genitals.
Thinking about it this way, it seems that cutting off the man's genitals is the easiest thing to do in the whole affair. Although she doesn't really need to cut off the man's genitals, she's already thought of it, so she might as well go and cut off the male protagonist's genitals anyway.
Anyway, it only costs 200 per stick.
