Chapter 86 The Eight Husbands from Previous Lives' Pursuit of Their Wives (1)

Before the mugwort even opened its eyes, it had already received the world view urgently transmitted by the system.

I briefly looked at the mugwort.

She wanted to keep her eyes closed and pretend she was still asleep.

The system said, "Ai Cao, the female lead has been picked up! Hurry up!"

Artemisia sighed and opened her eyes gloomily.

In an instant, her surroundings flashed into her mind.

She was now beside a huge mound shrouded in white mist. The central part of the mound was completely covered by the mist, preventing the mugwort from probing.

The white mist around where she stood wasn't that thick yet, but it still enveloped her face, bringing a touch of coolness.

She patted the hem of her long white dress, embroidered with subtle patterns, and brushed away any non-existent wrinkles and dust.

Not far in front of her stood a young man with a wary expression. The man looked to be only in his early twenties, with slightly dark silver hair and eyes.

In his arms was a small fox with its eyes closed and its fur entirely silver-white.

The system said, "He is one of the male supporting characters, and the woman in his arms is the female lead of this world."

When the man saw her looking at him, he instinctively hugged the little fox in his arms even tighter.

Seeing that he had placed her in the position of protector, Ai Cao thought of her previous world.

She used to protect Songtang like that too.

With a subtle sense of mutual appreciation, Ai Cao opened and then closed the skill menu.

She sighed and said, "Put her down, and I might spare your life."

The man silently held the little fox in his arms.

He would never give his beloved to someone else, no matter what.

He took a step back without making a sound, trying to escape from the woman in white.

Ai Cao took in his subtle movements.

She sighed at the breakdown of negotiations. She raised her hand. A pure silver longsword, one she had used several times before, appeared out of thin air and was firmly grasped in her hand.

A sword thrust out horizontally.

There is no wind.

There was no sound.

The man blinked nervously. Almost instantly, he made up his mind: he had to escape with his lover no matter what…

He wanted to escape, but he couldn't.

His feet seemed to be firmly glued to the ground.

His silver-black eyes were filled with the silver light of the sword.

The sword in Ai Cao's hand pierced the man's chest.

Not a single drop of blood flowed out.

Until the sword was drawn.

Red blood gushed from his body, drenching the little fox in his arms.

The silver-white little fox opened its bewildered black eyes.

It stuck out its tongue and licked away the blood that had flowed to her mouth. It seemed to have tasted the sweetness and continued to lick the blood off its own body.

Licking blood wasn't enough. It stretched out its body and nestled into the man's arms.

The man's eyes widened with delight, then he realized what it wanted to do—

It bit into a piece of flesh at the edge of the man's wound and tore it off.

It devoured the blood and flesh oozing from the man's wound.

It was now a veritable little wild beast, its mouth smeared with the man's fresh blood. After devouring the flesh and blood around the wound's edges, it burrowed into the wound and began to eat.

As it chewed, faint specks of light appeared behind it.

The light gathered behind it, condensing into another fluffy tail.

It let out a burp.

Now, it's a little fox with two tails.

The man, now completely lifeless, was being pressed down by the slightly larger fox cub.

His eyes were wide open, the silvery-black eyeballs almost popping out of their sockets; only the outer layer of his body remained intact, the inside had been completely devoured by the little fox.

Confused, the little fox took a couple of steps, chasing its new tail, on the thin skin. Then it lay down and peacefully closed its black eyes.

The system replied curtly, "I didn't expect that."

Artemisia calmly retorted, "What didn't you think of?"

"I didn't expect the female lead to kill one of the male supporting characters," the system said, "especially not in this way."

“Isn’t this normal?” Ai Cao said. “They are of the same kind, and killing their own kind can make them stronger.”

The system paused for a moment, then suddenly asked, "Your sword... why was there no spiritual energy in that move just now?"

Ai Cao raised an eyebrow: "Mental strength?"

A loud rustling of pages came from the other end of the system: "You're a powerful figure now, how come you still have no spiritual energy at all!"

The mugwort blinked.

She scooped up the little fox and placed it in her arms. The little fox, suddenly in a different position, blinked in confusion before settling down peacefully into her embrace.

The system's questioning voice betrayed a hint of uncertainty: "You... don't you know what Qingqiu is like either?"

Ai Cao nodded and said, "You mean that mound over there? It's all foggy there, of course I don't know."

The system said curtly, "But you should have been able to know."

Ai Cao squinted: "But I don't know. So—tell me the situation quickly."

After a moment of silence, the system and the mugwort explained the current situation.

The time she arrived was precisely the time when the female lead was stolen from Qingqiu by the male supporting character.

The man who just sacrificed his life and soul for the female lead is the male supporting character who appears last in the story—the female lead's childhood sweetheart in her eighth life.
