The little fox, its fur bristling, launched an angry attack!
Ai Cao picked it up and stroked its fur, coaxing it, "Okay, okay, don't be angry anymore."
She petted the fox skillfully, and the fox whimpered a few times in her arms before obediently letting her touch it.
Ai Cao's ears were finally quieter. She silently browsed the world content the system had given her, the upward curve of her lips slowly receding until it became a taut line.
The system suddenly had a bad feeling.
Ai Cao asked the system, "The nine-tailed fox reincarnation refers to the female lead, right?" She snorted, "Which male supporting character leaked this information?"
The system dared not utter a sound.
Ai Cao pressed on: "No wonder you didn't say anything back then, so you were waiting here all along."
The system remains silent.
But at this moment, its silence is more powerful than any words.
Ai Cao knew that it was tacitly agreeing with the previous question, so she laughed and continued, "It seems that the male supporting characters have already discussed it... to steal the little fox from Qingqiu, and then plot to steal her last remaining tail."
She slowly stroked the little fox's back, then thought for a moment before saying, "No, that's not right. The male supporting character who died earlier was trying to protect her. It seems that the male supporting characters aren't a united front either."
The system whispered, "...more or less."
Ai Cao asked again, "If I use my skill on the male supporting character—then they won't be able to vomit up everything they've eaten." She calmly asked, "Is that so?"
The system's voice became even softer: "...Yes."
Ai Cao smiled. A flash of silver light appeared in her hand, and a longsword materialized out of thin air, which she gripped firmly.
Ai Cao said, "Locate the current position of the male supporting character." She held the little fox in one hand, pushed open the door, and stood in the yard.
A bright spot suddenly appeared on the map the system showed her.
The system said curtly, "The male supporting character is nearby."
Ai Cao curled the corners of her mouth slightly.
Now that he's here, it saves her the trouble of searching for him.
She sat down in the courtyard, sword in her right hand and little fox in her left.
Less than half a minute later, she heard the noise outside start up again.
The proprietress's voice was the loudest: "My lord, your presence here is an insult to your eyes..."
A hoarse voice rang out: "The person with the fox is just ahead?"
The bystanders responded vaguely.
The proprietress then said, "Immortal..."
Before she could finish speaking, a series of hurried footsteps stopped outside the gate of Ai Cao's courtyard.
Ai Cao glanced calmly at the courtyard gate.
With a muffled thud, the courtyard gate turned to dust.
A young man with an unhappy expression stood outside the door. He was dressed in black, with black hair and red eyes. Half of his slightly curly long hair was tied up with delicate silver ornaments, while the other half was casually draped over his shoulder.
His eyebrows and eyes were partially obscured by his thin bangs, but his dark red eyes firmly attracted everyone's attention.
Surrounding him were several men dressed in black, with stern faces; next to them was the proprietress who gave a dry laugh at Ai Cao.
The man showed no remorse for damaging other people's property and walked straight toward the mugwort.
He stopped in front of Ai Cao, stared at the little fox yawning in her arms, and said, "Long time no see."
The little fox rolled over and buried its face in the mugwort's embrace, not even giving the man a glance.
The man walked forward again. He reached out, his trembling fingertips almost touching the little fox—
Ai Cao raised her hand and drew her sword. The sword flashed like water, slicing off the man's outstretched hand at the wrist. She drew her sword again, and the man quickly retreated a few steps, widening the distance between them.
Blood gushed from the severed area of his wrist. The man only managed to stop the bleeding by pressing a few acupoints on his forearm; his eyes remained fixed on the little fox.
The severed hand, which was on the ground, swayed and floated into the air.
The little fox perked up its ears.
Ai Cao shrugged. She loosened her grip on the little fox in her arms, and the little fox tentatively sat up from her arms, wagging its tail as it pounced to the ground.
A smile curved the man's thin lips: "Come on, let me touch you like I used to..."
His severed hand approached the little fox.
The little fox crouched down and leaped. Its sharp, pointed canine teeth embedded themselves firmly in the severed hand, tearing a piece of fresh flesh from it.
It landed, put the piece of meat in its mouth, and swallowed it in a murky way.
The smile on the man's lips froze.
The severed hand that he was controlling, which was floating in the air, also seemed to have suffered a major blow and fell from the sky to the ground.
Incredulity flickered in the man's eyes. He lowered his voice and asked in a low voice, "Why can't I feel my hand anymore?"
The little fox bit the severed hand. First, it tore the flesh off the bone and ate it, then it used its teeth to pick the flesh from the knuckles one by one. The man, terrified by its beastly behavior, took a step back, gritting his teeth and roaring, "You beast... how could it be her! She would never do this to me!"
His anger erupted.
The guards surrounding the man strode forward. They blocked his path, drawing various weapons and pointing them at the little fox clinging to its paws, eating meat.
Ai Cao glanced at the proprietress who was shivering against the wall to the side.
She stood up.
The longsword in her hand reflected the soft light of the setting sun, flowing with a bright silver glow. Although she had arrived in the world of cultivation, and her own body should theoretically possess a great deal of cultivation power, she still preferred to use the power that had always belonged to her.
She stomped heavily on the ground. Her figure vanished for a moment, then she appeared in front of the male guard closest to the little fox. Expressionless, she slit his throat with her sword, then lifted the little fox onto the guard's corpse and tossed them both into a corner of the courtyard.
