Qingyun showed a clear expression of hesitation.
The description of mugwort is so clear that it doesn't seem like a lie.
She could tell that Ai Cao wasn't joking, but... she began her ninth reincarnation in this world, a world that was still no different from her first life.
She wanted to ask, is there really any possibility that the world can get better?
Qingyun did indeed ask that question.
Artemisia thought for a moment and said, "Of course." She smiled and said, "You've lived eight lifetimes more than me, how could you not see the possibility of things getting better?"
Qingyun made a move to tap her forehead, but the longsword in mid-air beat him to it. The sword slammed down, the hilt striking Ai Cao's head with a dull thud.
Ai Cao touched her head and said, "It still hurts quite a bit."
Ai Cao picked up both swords, trying to send them away. But the two swords seemed to be stuck to the air, showing no sign of disappearing.
Qingyun's lips unconsciously curled into a smile. She asked, "Did you make the world a better place by fighting before?"
The mugwort nodded and then shook its head.
Ai Cao said, "Part of it. I'll take care of the fighting part, and the others will take care of the other parts." Her voice softened as she said, "Without absolute force, it's very difficult to pull someone out of the quagmire at the beginning."
"Is this the same way in the world?" Qingyun asked.
Ai Cao nodded: "If I can't even beat the male supporting character who took you away at the beginning, then naturally I can't change your fate."
Qingyun recalled her own situation back then. With only one tail, she was no different from an ordinary fox, and utterly powerless against whoever held her. Although she didn't approve of fighting, force was indeed necessary if it could achieve her goal.
Qingyun said, "The people you meet later will be even stronger." She slowly recalled the two blood beads she had eaten, "The first tail I cut off contained the most spiritual power, and the power decreased in turn after that."
Ai Cao nodded: "Just kill them all."
Qingyun asked with a smile, "Do you know who they are? You're saying you want to kill them all now?"
Artemisia blinked slowly and said, "I can kill anyone."
She gave up her attempt to make the longswords disappear and instead placed them neatly side by side on the table.
Qingyun continued, "I only know for now who I lost my tail for in my first and second lives; but they are too strong for me now."
"I can..."
Qingyun narrowed his fox-like eyes and interrupted Ai Cao without hesitation: "How many can you kill?"
Ai Cao said, "All men except those who possess your tail-severing cultivation."
"What about male cultivators?" Qingyun pressed aggressively.
“It doesn’t matter if they are men or male cultivators,” Ai Cao said. “Those who have had entanglements with you should be left for you to consume. If I use my method, their cultivation and souls will not be able to be preserved.”
Qingyun glanced at the sword on the table and asked, "Just with the sword?"
Artemisia shook her head and said, "I can make men give birth to women."
Qingyun exclaimed, "Huh?"
Ai Cao explained her skills in detail. Unlike the previous world, the female protagonist of this world, Qingyun, could readily accept her existence. Therefore, Ai Cao explained the skills in much greater detail.
Qingyun listened with her mouth agape and said, "Where...where did you find such a useful magic weapon?" She reached out and shook Ai Cao's shoulder, saying loudly, "Give me one too!"
The mugwort was shaken until she felt dizzy, and the voice that came out of her mouth changed: "This...is not...a magic weapon..."
Qingyun continued to shake her: "What else could this be but a magic weapon!"
Ai Cao waved her hand, feeling dizzy. The two swords lying on the table slid between the two of them, giving Ai Cao time and space to catch her breath.
Qingyun gave a soft hum. Two large, fluffy fox ears popped out of her head, and she turned towards the direction outside the courtyard. Only then did Qingyun release Ai Cao's shoulder and adjust her posture to be more dignified.
Qingyun lowered his voice and said, "The proprietress here has brought a group of people."
She paused, then added, "Except for the landlady, everyone else's footsteps were very light and uniform."
Artemisia propped herself up on the table. She quickly recovered from the dizziness she had just experienced, responded softly, and calmed herself down, regaining her composure.
They exchanged a silent glance.
The sky was now darker than before, and the missing door of the courtyard gate looked like a giant black mouth.
The proprietress, carrying a lantern, strode into the courtyard. Her footsteps made a crisp sound, and her face wore a fawning, mask-like smile.
Behind her was a group of black figures.
The proprietress chuckled dryly and said, "Immortals, this is the courtyard where that immortal once visited..."
A small commotion arose from the figures.
The landlady didn't need to say anything more.
They had seen the courtyard, now empty except for corpses. The bodies were piled up haphazardly, forming a small hill, topped with a few pieces of human skin slashed open by swords.
A dark figure grabbed the proprietress by the throat and asked in a low, hoarse voice, "What did those people look like?"
The proprietress coughed dryly, unable to utter a single word.
The man loosened his grip slightly, but still held her throat firmly.
The landlady's voice was hoarse: "I...I didn't see what they looked like..." The hand gripping her throat suddenly tightened, and tears streamed down her face, dripping onto the man's hand.
The man snorted coldly, pressed harder on her neck, threw her aside, and cursed, "Useless mortal!"
He coldly ordered his companions, "Take all the bodies back and examine them carefully!"
