The woman spat out the tea she was drinking.
Qingyun, who had been lying on the coffee table, quickly got up and retreated. At the same time, she waved her hand and placed a spiritual force around herself and Ai Cao, blocking the cloud-like tea from entering.
The woman reacted quickly.
As she coughed, she waved her hand, using her spiritual power to wrap the tea and send it outside the room.
Judging from the sound, it seems that water was splashed on the soil.
The woman asked dryly, "First...first? Which first, last?"
Ai Cao smiled and said, "It's number one."
The woman stared intently at Ai Cao's face. She looked left and right, but couldn't detect any hint of a joke on that smiling face.
The woman frowned and said, "The generally accepted view now is..." She glanced at the proprietress and the little girl, then stood up, "These words should not be heard by ordinary people."
She took a low-grade spirit stone out of her pocket and placed it on the coffee table.
The proprietress pursed her lips. She stood up and said, "I'll put my daughter to bed first, and the immortals can continue their conversation."
She carried the reluctant little girl out of the room.
There are only three people in the room now: Ai Cao, Qing Yun, and this woman.
The woman made two hand gestures before sitting down again, saying, "I've set up a soundproof barrier. Now, what we're saying won't be heard by mortals." Her voice was soft and quick, and her expression became much more serious.
The woman said, "Currently, the undisputed number one sect in the cultivation world is led by that sword immortal who cultivates the Path of Ruthlessness." She stared at the mugwort and asked, "You asked me if I'm interested in becoming the number one sect? I definitely am."
"But I am also aware of my own limitations."
"Now, even a flick of that sword immortal's little finger could obliterate my soul and spirit, leaving me with no chance of reincarnation."
"Do you have some grudge against me or that sword immortal that's why you've come to me to ask this question?" the woman asked.
She went on and on, then got angry again: "Besides, I can see clearly that you have no cultivation at all, only brute force! The girl next to you does have cultivation, but it's just average."
“I should have run away when I saw you,” the woman said.
Ai Cao smiled and asked, "Then why don't you run?"
The woman rolled her eyes and said, "Because I can't run away." She pointed to the two swords behind the artemisia and said, "If I dare to move, these two swords will definitely cut me down. Do you think I dare to move?"
Ai Cao's smile deepened: "They are my natal swords."
The woman's expression froze. She looked at Ai Cao, then at the two swords behind her.
Qingyun kindly helped her close her increasingly wide-open mouth.
Qingyun said, "This guy—" She lazily raised her chin toward Ai Cao, "Currently, he only needs one sword to kill cultivators below the Golden Core stage."
Artemisia touched her nose and said, "Some bones are hard; you have to chop them a couple of times."
The woman hesitated before asking, "And those at the Golden Core stage or above?"
Qingyun said, "I have encountered a Nascent Soul cultivator before. I slashed him twice with my sword and he is now unable to recover."
The first person they encountered, a clansman with the cultivation level of Golden Core, was stabbed by the mugwort and was on the verge of death; the next person they encountered, a black-clad man with the cultivation level of Nascent Soul, was slashed twice by the mugwort and lay on the ground convulsing.
And so on. When encountering cultivators of higher levels, the same principle applies: for each higher realm, the mugwort should be cut down more often.
The woman listened, dumbfounded. After thinking for a moment, she said, "My sect has no disciples."
Her cheeks flushed slightly, a little embarrassed: "I only registered the sect's name; there really isn't a single disciple in it."
Qingyun yawned.
Qingyun said lazily, "Just have Ai Cao make some for you." Her voice grew softer and softer.
Ai Cao turned to look at her. Qing Yun had already fallen asleep on the table. Soft light surrounded her, enveloping her in layers.
Artemisia said, "I don't know if you've heard of it before."
The woman also noticed Qingyun's unusual behavior. She moved closer to the mugwort and asked, "What did you hear?"
The points of light surrounding Qingyun dispersed.
Ai Cao reached out and scooped the little fox, whose eyes were tightly closed, slowly sliding down the table into her arms.
Ai Cao then continued, "The legend of the nine-tailed fox."
The woman looked at the little fox, her pupils dilating in shock: "This is..."
“It should be,” said Artemisia.
"The person who spread the news wants to harm her?" the woman asked.
She dared to sever ties with her previous sect and successfully establish her own new sect; this shows that she is no pushover.
“Yes,” Ai Cao said. “Trying to rekindle our past relationship and seek to gain access to her cultivation would indeed be detrimental to her.”
The woman nodded and asked, "Where is the person who spread the rumor?"
“One is dead,” Ai Cao said. “I don’t know how many more there are, but if I encounter them, I should be able to kill them all.”
The woman breathed a sigh of relief. She looked at the sleeping little fox and asked, "May I touch her?"
Ai Cao handed the little fox to her: "Perhaps you'd like to hold her?"
The woman hesitated for only a moment before carefully taking the little fox and holding it in her hands. It seemed to be the first time she had ever held such a furry little creature, and she tentatively changed her position a few times.
Ai Cao said, "It's alright, she's not a real fox, don't worry about hurting her."
The woman was relieved. She held the little fox in one hand and gently stroked the fur on its back with the other.
After petting the fox for a while, the woman's tone softened. She asked, "You want me to become the sect leader of the number one sect, what benefits do you want from me?"
Ai Cao thought for a moment and said, "For me, there are many benefits just from supporting the expansion of your sect."
