Chapter 175 The King of Hoarding in the Apocalypse (15)
After the generator started, Jin Shu plugged in the electric heater, warmed some wine, and then put some peanuts, nuts, and other small items on the baking tray.
After Jin Shu had arranged her places to eat, drink, and have fun, the living area was already filled with the strong aroma of wine and nuts.
Jin Shu sat on the sofa, wrapped in a blanket, by the stove, poured herself a glass of wine, and popped a nut into her mouth.
She wasn't hungry, just a little craving something. Anyway, all she had to do for the rest of the days was survive. The tasks were easy, and the only thing she needed to think about was how to live comfortably and freely.
After finishing her drink, and still feeling warm, Jin Shu cleared out the patch of overgrown grass next to her in one go.
She has a lot of seeds here: flower seeds, fruit seeds, and grain seeds.
Jin Shu divided the land into three plots and planted sweet potatoes, yams, apple trees, peach trees, and her favorite strawberries in each plot.
To ensure the seeds grew well, Jin Shu built a vegetable greenhouse, a method she learned from a book. Since she also had the necessary tools in her space, she decided to get right to it.
Jin Shu had tried almost every profession in the tens of thousands of years she had lived. Being a farmer was not a first for her. Back then, out of boredom, she followed a group of refugee farmers to farm in the mountains. She farmed for ten years until the mountain was transformed from barren to covered in peach blossoms. She ate peaches for eight years before she got tired of them and moved to another place to continue her life.
So farming wasn't difficult for her.
After planting all the seeds, Jin Shu spent the rest of her time modifying the underground drainage system of the air-raid shelter.
The drainage system was built into the cave, but it was clogged in many places due to years of disrepair. So Jin Shu spent a lot of effort cleaning the drainage system and even installed a toilet for herself.
The base was taking shape, and Jin Shu slept soundly until her alarm rang the next day.
At six o'clock in the morning, the temperature gradually rose.
Jin Shu added another barrel of diesel fuel to the generator, which should last her a while longer.
After breakfast, she did her usual set of boxing exercises, followed by a run around the air-raid shelter. After a quick wash, she was ready to start her workday.
She needs to introduce fresh water to her base; otherwise, relying solely on the water stored in the space, although enough for a lifetime, will always be inconvenient for washing and personal hygiene.
Jin Shu checked and found that because the mountaintop was at a high enough altitude, it was above the rain layer, so the water from the melting snow on the mountaintop was not polluted by the black water.
What she has to do today is to bring clean water from the mountaintop directly into the base. The water pipes must run underground and must not be discovered or damaged.
It's too cold to work at night, so the best time to unclog the pipes is between 6:00 and 8:00 in the morning and between 5:00 and 6:00 in the afternoon, when the temperature is between 5 and 10 degrees Celsius, neither too hot nor too cold.
Pack your bags and exit through the secret passage. Climb all the way to the top of the mountain. After planning your route, start digging a tunnel and installing water pipes.
Two hours passed, and Jin Shu had only cleared a small portion of the tunnel. The temperature was already close to 30 degrees Celsius, and it could rise sharply within ten minutes. If she continued to work at this temperature, she would easily become dehydrated and suffer from heatstroke. So, Jin Shu immediately turned around and headed back.
The mountain was deserted, devoid of any living creatures; the jungle, long since withered and decayed, was utterly silent.
Just as Jin Shu was about to reach the entrance of the secret passage, there was a sudden rustling in the hay not far from the entrance.
