Xiao Li found the trick to catching rabbits, but she didn't dare to take out too many. After thinking about it, she went to her third aunt's house.
Third Uncle Mo Qingnian was a skilled hunter. When he was young, he learned hunting from Huang Zhong, the father of Third Aunt Huang. After marrying Huang, his family had the best food after they separated from the family, and there was a meat dish on the table every few days.
Xiao Li begged her third uncle to agree to take her to set traps and snares.
"Xiaoli, let's get this straight: if you can't walk up the mountain, you're not allowed to cry. Just stay home and do your embroidery. You can make some money from it. Rabbits aren't that easy to catch."
Mo Qingnian looked at Xiao Li with a helpless expression. Seeing how persistent his niece was, he had no choice but to agree.
Since Xiaoli wanted to learn, Mo Qingnian had no choice but to take her along. As for how well they would fare, it all depended on luck.
Little did he know that from then on, Mo Qingnian would embark on a path of surprise from which there was no turning back, because it was rare for anyone to escape Xiao Li's traps empty-handed; he could only say that Xiao Li was just too lucky.
Xiao Li took a few of the pheasants and rabbits she had caught and kept them in a designated area in her spatial dimension, so she wouldn't have to go to the mountains to catch rabbits anymore. She also had her father build a cage in the backyard and put two female rabbits and one male rabbit in it.
At first, Mo Qingshan and Yun Yuniang thought Xiao Li was just having fun and that they wouldn't want to raise the rabbits anymore once they died, since wild rabbits in the mountains are not easy to raise. Unexpectedly, the rabbits grew better and better, and the female rabbits became pregnant one after another. So Mo Qingshan built a larger rabbit hutch and separated the female and male rabbits to raise them, just waiting for the female rabbits to give birth.
Little did they know that the river water and vegetables in Xiao Li's space had a mysterious attraction for small animals; eating them would not only prevent them from getting sick, but would also make their meat taste better.
During this time, Xiaoli often went to the mountains to play, and the species in her space became more abundant. She would often sneak out to cook for her family, and everyone felt that their health was getting better and better, and their energy was much greater.
Everyone assumed it was because the food at home had been better recently, and didn't think much of it.
It was the fifteenth of the month again, market day in town. Early in the morning, Xiaoli walked to town with her father, mother, and brother.
Yesterday, Xiaoli caught a fawn on the mountain. It just so happened that it was market day. Since we haven't been short of meat at home lately, everyone decided to take it to town to sell.
After getting off the oxcart, Mo Yunxiao jumped down first, helping his mother and younger sister down as well. He then carried the basket he had brought to carry things, including some vegetables and eggs that Yunyu's mother had brought to sell that morning. Mo Qingshan was the last to get off, carrying a large basket containing a fawn.
The group first strolled around the market. Because the journey was quite long, the streets were already crowded. It was market day, so there were many vendors, and the good stalls had already been taken.
After looking around but not finding a good spot, Mo Qingshan finally chose a quiet alleyway and said, "I'll go to the restaurant first and sell the deer. It's a rare item, and the restaurant should be able to take it."
She then said to the two siblings, "You two stay with your mother and do your best to sell vegetables until I come back."
Yun Yuniang helped Mo Qingshan carry the basket properly, and only after watching him walk away did she take the contents out of the basket, arrange them neatly, and wait for customers to come and ask questions.
After waiting for a while, they sold some items one after another. Xiao Li watched Yun Yuniang bargaining with others, which was quite interesting.
"Xiao'er, take this money and go buy your sister some meat buns." Yun Yu Niang looked at her daughter with amusement and handed ten copper coins to Mo Yunxiao.
"Just wander around here, but don't go too far, your father will be back soon."
“Yes, Mother. I will take good care of my sister.” Mo Yunxiao nodded, while calling to Xiaoli.
"Mom, I brought meat buns for you and Dad too." Xiaoli happily followed her brother.
Mo Yunxiao led Xiaoli through the crowds to the steamed bun shop. Several steamer baskets were placed on the counter at the entrance, and as soon as they were opened, billowing steam rose out, and a fragrant aroma wafted out.
"What would you two like to order? We have steamed buns, mantou (steamed bread), and shumai..."
"I want two fresh meat ones and two braised meat ones."
"Okay, I'll install it for you right away. Here you go."
Mo Yunxiao counted out eight copper coins and handed them to the waiter, while taking the steamed bun wrapped in kraft paper.
"It's so hot, Xiaoli, let's go back to Mother's to eat. Father must be back by now," Mo Yunxiao asked his younger sister.
"Okay, brother, let's go."
The two siblings returned the way they came.
Just then, a little boy dressed in tattered clothes ran over and bumped straight into Xiaoli.
"oops!"
Xiao Li was knocked off balance and almost fell, but luckily Mo Yunxiao caught her in time.
The little boy turned back and gave Xiaoli a deep look before disappearing into the crowd.
"Little sister, are you alright? Are you hurt anywhere?" Mo Yunxiao asked as he helped Xiaoli up.
"What's wrong with you...wait, where did you go?"
Xiao Li looked around in surprise; the person had disappeared so quickly.
"Make way! Make way! Quick, catch up with him, don't let him get away!"
A flurry of activity ensued, and two more people ran past, followed by a panting fat man who shouted as he ran.
"Brother, I'm fine, let's go!"
Xiao Li rubbed her shoulder. "Little brat, that bump really hurt."
She smoothed her clothes with her hand, her expression slightly stiff, and noticed an extra item in the sleeve pocket.
"You brat, you're dead once I catch you. You dare steal from your Uncle Zhou. What are you looking at? Look again and I'll gouge your eyes out..." The fat man was still panting and cursing.
"Pah, serves you right! Serves you right for being so arrogant and bullying us all the time. You deserve to be robbed..."
"Run! Run! We'll be in big trouble if he hears us..."
Xiao Li withdrew her small hand that was about to take out the item, quietly put it into her spatial storage, and left with her brother.
Unbeknownst to Xiao Li, the moment the purse was stored in her spatial dimension, its previously bulging shape instantly deflated. Simultaneously, subtle changes occurred within the spatial dimension itself.
Back at the stall, the vegetables were almost sold out, with only a lone bunch remaining. There were also a dozen or so eggs left. Mo Qingshan had returned as well, and the two of them were smiling and talking.
"Father, Mother, we're back."
Mo Yunxiao took out the steamed buns and gave one to each person. Mo Qingshan didn't take one; he waved his hand and said, "I won't eat. Xiao'er, you and Xiaoli should eat more."
Xiao Li took the steamed bun and stuffed it into her father's mouth: "Dad, you should try it too, the steamed bun is delicious."
Mo Qingshan couldn't resist his daughter's insistence, so he had no choice but to open his mouth and eat.
"Okay, okay, Dad, eat up. It smells so good. When we get back, I'll ask your mom to make you mushroom and pork buns. Those are so fragrant, fresh, and delicious."
"Dad, has Little Deer been sold? How much did it cost?" Xiaoli asked softly.
"Okay, let's talk about it when we get home." Mo Qingshan nodded with a smile.
