"Mom, hang up the phone quickly, we should go find our dorm rooms."
Wu Yumei didn't have time to talk to Lan Yufang anymore; she also wanted to see the environment where the child was living and whether the roommates were easy to get along with.
"Yufang, I'm hanging up now. Take your time, it's still early. We're going shopping later, so we won't wait for you. Let's get together again in a few days."
After saying that, Wu Yumei hung up the phone.
Lan Yufang felt a tightness in her chest as she listened to the busy tone on her phone, but she didn't know how to vent her anger.
"How much longer? It's almost ten o'clock."
Zhao Youde asked impatiently, "I've been waiting for an hour already. Even if breakfast takes forever, I should have finished by now."
Lan Yufang replied irritably, "What are we waiting for? They've all left. Let's hurry up and move our things. The school will be closing for dinner soon."
Zhao Youde was taken aback, not expecting that the Zhang family would not wait for him.
"The Zhang family is really outrageous. They left without saying anything beforehand, making us wait for so long."
"That's right, wait till I get back and I'll give Yumei a piece of my mind."
The two of them worked up a sweat carrying their luggage. The trunk was already full, and there were still two bags left to fit, so they had to put them on the back seat.
"Mom and Dad, I already told you that these winter clothes are all old and you shouldn't bring them. We can buy new ones later. But you insisted on bringing them. Now look what's going to happen, how are we going to move all of them?"
Lan Yufang felt a pang of guilt. She had only wanted to save trouble by taking the Zhang family of three with her all at once, so that her daughter wouldn't have to bring her own luggage in the future.
How can you blame her?
"Yunyun, you don't need to get involved. Dad and Mom can carry it."
Zhao Yunyun then snorted and fell silent.
Lan Yufang opened another bottle of soda and handed it to the back, saying, "Yunyun, have a soda to quench your thirst."
Zhao Yunyun frowned. "There's no straw. How am I supposed to drink this?"
Lan Yufang then took a straw from the storage box, put it into the bottle, and handed it to Zhao Yunyun.
Zhao Yunyun was finally satisfied and took small sips of her soda.
Once the family arrived at the school, they rushed to register, find dormitories, and move their belongings, which was quite a flurry of activity. Zhao Yunyun followed behind with her toiletries.
After everything was settled, it was past midnight, and the three of them were starving, so they decided to go out for a meal.
The three of them chose a restaurant that looked nice and ordered Zhao Yunyun's favorite sweet and sour pork ribs. After Zhao Yunyun finished eating, they took her back to school before driving home themselves.
The Zhang family was enjoying themselves. Xiao Li only brought summer and autumn clothes; she planned to get her winter clothes after the Mid-Autumn Festival.
So the three of them each carried a bag of luggage and that was it. If Wu Yumei hadn't insisted on bringing homemade pickles and snacks, they would have had even less stuff.
After settling into her dormitory, Xiaoli took her parents to a bustling street nearby.
Many people set up stalls here to sell things, and there are even many senior students selling their unused second-hand items.
"Mom, it will definitely be more lively here at night, with lots of food stalls. My roommate and I can come and stroll around then."
Wu Yumei nodded, saying that the area around the school would be very lively.
The two ate and played, their hands full, and even Zhang Liqun's hands were never empty.
"Mom, look, there's a jewelry store over there. Let's go take a look."
Seeing that her daughter was interested, Wu Yumei did not object. The items in these small shops were not too expensive, and her daughter had loved them since she was a child. It was no big deal to indulge her occasionally.
"Then let's go take a look."
The two entered the store, and Zhang Liqun waited at the door with his things. He didn't appreciate these little girls' things, and it was more comfortable to smoke a cigarette at the door.
Xiao Li looked around. This era was equivalent to the early 1920s. It wasn't as developed as it used to be. Although mobile phones were widespread, live streaming hadn't yet appeared. Fashion was still a relatively cutting-edge thing in the world.
This little jewelry shop is already quite trendy, with many sparkly little items like crystals inside.
There are also hair ties, hair clips, earrings, bracelets, and the like—basically, things that young, pretty girls like.
There was a small basket by the door containing some discounted items, which Xiaoli rummaged through.
There were some yellowed hair clips, some broken beaded hair ties, and some small silk scarves with slight stains...
They are all small items with minor flaws anyway.
Xiao Li picked out a few small items. When Wu Yumei saw them, she felt a little sad. Her daughter had always liked pretty things since she was little, but unfortunately, her family wasn't well-off.
"Xiaoxiao, we'll buy the good stuff. Mom can still afford to spend a few dozen yuan."
Xiao Li held Wu Yumei's hand. "Mom, let's save money where we can and not waste it. I bought these things because they're useful. You'll see in a moment."
Tired from shopping, the three of them chose a small restaurant with a nice ambiance. They sat in a corner where no one bothered them.
Xiao Li took out the small rubber bands and beads she had bought and started playing with them.
A small rubber band with two big beads was quickly made.
She took off the old hair tie and put on this beaded one, instantly becoming much more fashionable and adding a touch of girlish playfulness.
Wu Yumei was somewhat surprised by her daughter's skillful hands, but the result looked quite nice.
Xiao Li strung a few beads onto the rope with several red cords and then braided a complicated knot.
The simple red string suddenly looked beautiful, and it was easily put on with one hand.
Xiao Li held the silk scarf up her hair and showed it off, and Wu Yumei thought it looked especially beautiful.
"Xiaoxiao, you have such skillful hands, it looks really good tied up like this."
Xiao Li nodded and smiled. Her sense of style had stood the test of time and had transcended many worlds.
Zhang Liqun chuckled along. If his wife and daughter thought it was good, then it really was good.
After they finished eating, Zhang's parents took Xiaoli back to school. As they passed the playground, many boys were looking at Xiaoli.
There was no way around it; the original owner's body was just too beautiful, and she took extra care of herself, so her appearance was exceptionally stunning.
The parents exchanged a worried glance; she was too beautiful, but they were also worried.
Xiaoli noticed her parents' worries, so she obediently told them that she would not leave school easily, would call home every week, and would go home once a month before her parents left with peace of mind.
Back in her dorm room, all her roommates were there. It was a standard six-person room, and after introducing themselves, Xiaoli learned her roommates' names.
"Everyone, come and try these little shortbread cookies. My mom made them herself."
Xiao Li took out the snacks that Wu Yumei had asked her to bring and distributed them to everyone; it was still very important to maintain good relationships.
Everyone casually took a few, and Jiang Xinying also took out her chocolates and shared them with everyone.
“My aunt brought this back from abroad. Why don’t you have some?”
"Xinying is so generous, she's willing to share such good chocolate with us. Mmm, it's so sweet."
