Chapter 16 Encountering Danger

She repeated the same trick several times, and only stopped after catching several hundred pounds. Suddenly, she heard a sound coming from where the snare was set. Xiao Li quickly ran over and found that a wild sheep had been caught. Xiao Li quickly took out some vegetables from her space and threw them to the wild sheep. While the wild sheep was eating the vegetables, she put it back into her space and placed it in the specially fenced area to prevent it from ruining the vegetables she had planted.

Xiao Li checked the other snares, but unfortunately, she didn't find anything. These animals were quite clever; they ate the bait but didn't fall into the snares. Xiao Li replenished the bait and found a secluded spot to wait patiently.

A moment later, oh my god! What did she see? The little squirrel was jumping around the snare and had eaten all the bait. Xiao Li was both annoyed and amused. So that's how it was; no wonder no animals had entered the snare.

She stood up and walked to the trap. The little squirrel seemed to realize it had done something wrong, and it darted up the tree in a flash.

Xiao Li picked several large peaches from her spatial storage and some pears, placing them under the tree. She said to the little squirrel, "These are for you. Please don't go to the trap anymore, okay?"

The little squirrel obviously couldn't answer, so Xiaoli took it as a yes, replenished the bait, and continued to wait.

The little squirrel ate all the fruit, its belly was bulging, and it seemed to be full. It looked at Xiaoli, then at the empty trap, wondering what she was waiting for.

After a while, a group of sambar deer came to drink water. One mischievous sambar deer, greedy for food, got caught in the snare. It cried out in panic, and the herd of sambar deer became chaotic. The lead deer led the herd away, leaving only the mother deer circling around her fawn. Inadvertently, the mother deer also got caught in the snare, and now two were trapped.

Xiao Li waited until the deer herd had run far away before coming over and putting two of the deer into her spatial storage. Now she had three prey. Xiao Li decided to go back, as it was too late and she was afraid her mother would worry.

So she collected all the snares and headed home. Just as she turned out of the lake, she heard a huffing sound. Xiaoli turned around and was startled to see a tall, strong wild boar leading a group of wild boars of all sizes charging towards her. A chill ran down Xiaoli's spine, straight to the top of her head, and she was momentarily stunned.

A series of sharp cries rang out, and a weight landed on her shoulder. Xiao Li jumped and spun behind a tree, entering her spatial dimension.

After catching her breath in the space, Xiao Li looked at the little squirrel. It had jumped onto her shoulder and come in with her. The little squirrel was jumping around in the space, looking around. It saw a lot of delicious food, but unfortunately, its belly was already full and it couldn't eat anymore, so it could only touch it.

Xiao Li followed it curiously, watching it run up the peach tree and touch the big peaches, then go up the pear tree and touch the pears, and then hug the tomatoes. Seeing its annoyed look, she couldn't help but laugh.

"Hmph, what are you laughing at? How dare you make fun of me, the Great King?"

...

That's scary! What was that sound?

"Is that you speaking?" Xiaoli asked the little squirrel curiously.

"Huh? You can hear me? Where am I?" The little squirrel stared wide-eyed, looking incredulous.

Xiao Li thought it was so cute that she reached out and picked two peaches for it. Only feeding it could soothe her heart, which had been melted by its cuteness.

She crouched down. "This is my space. We're still in the mountains. I'll take you out after the wild boar leaves."

"I don't want to go out, I want to stay here." The little squirrel looked resistant, and abandoned the peaches. It jumped onto Xiaoli's hand, hugged her thumb, rubbed against it, and said ingratiatingly, "Master, can I live here? There's so much spiritual energy here, it's so comfortable. I'm very useful, I can help."

Xiaoli was secretly overjoyed, but said aloud, "What use are you? Can you eat me?"

The little squirrel bristled and said pitifully, "I don't taste good, master. I can help you catch prey."

Xiao Li laughed immediately, "What can you catch? You're so small, are you going to catch mice? I don't want to eat mice."

"Also, why did you call me master? What did you do?" Xiao Li was a little puzzled. Upon closer inspection, she seemed to have some inexplicable connection with the little squirrel.

The little squirrel quickly shook its head, "I don't know either. As soon as I came in, I felt like you were my owner."

Xiao Li couldn't figure it out, so she stopped thinking about it. She stroked the squirrel's smooth fur, all the way to the tip of its tail, mentally groaning, "It feels so good to pet it..."

"Do you have a name? What kind of animal are you?" Xiaoli asked while petting him.

The squirrel squinted comfortably. "I am the king of squirrels. I have the blood of a treasure-hunting squirrel, so I can always find lots of delicious food. As for a name, I don't have one yet. Why don't you give me one, master?"

Xiao Li thought for a moment, looking at the little squirrel and thinking of the squirrel-fish, her mouth watering. "Then you can be called Little Fish."

"Why? Master, I'm a squirrel! How can you call me Little Fish?" the little squirrel protested.

"Um... okay, since you're so round, let's call you Xiao Yuan."

"Little Round... Okay, then I'll be called Little Round. I have a name now, chirp chirp~, my name is Little Round." Little Round the squirrel jumped up happily.

Xiao* felt a little embarrassed when she named Fei*Li, but then she became happy.

After waiting for a while, it had long since quieted down outside. Xiao Li led Xiao Yuan out of the space, and Xiao Yuan led Xiao Li down the mountain, also going to its tree hole to retrieve its belongings. It was, after all, a king who owned its own territory.

When Xiaoli arrived at the small round tree hollow, she was stunned. It truly was full of treasures: mostly nuts like pine nuts, hazelnuts, acorns, chestnuts, and walnuts. There were also some fresh, tender leaves, and… little insects…

Xiao Yuan wanted to share with its owner to show its generosity. Xiao Li quickly took out a walnut to indicate that it was fine. Xiao Yuan happily let its owner put the rest into its storage space, including its soft, hay-made bed.

Xiao Li had no choice but to put it under the largest tree in her space.

With a clatter, a round object rolled down from the tree hole. Xiao Li picked it up and saw that it was a dark green round gemstone, about the size of a pigeon egg. Xiao Li felt a sudden heat in her left little finger; that was… the location in space.

"What is this? Where did it come from?" Xiaoli asked Xiaoyuan, holding up the round gemstone.

Xiao Yuan stared at the gemstone for a long time. "Oh, I remember now. I found this in a cave. I thought it was the prettiest, so I brought it back. Master, do you like it? If you like it, I'll give it to you."

Xiao Li nodded and happily stroked Xiao Yuan's big tail. "I like it very much, thank you Xiao Yuan."

Xiao Li felt like she'd won the lottery. She put the gem into the table in her spatial bamboo house and was about to head home when she felt a tremor in the space, and it seemed to have expanded a little. Xiao Li realized something and went to check on the gem, but it was gone; only a little powder remained on the table.

Xiao Li pondered, "Could the space really be upgraded? All I need are these gems."
