Chapter 14 Shattered Youth 4

Finally, halfway through the meal, Lin Qian took a deep breath and mustered her courage to say, "Dad, Mom, I want to change schools."

Lin's father, Lin Dahai, paused abruptly with his chopsticks. He looked up, a flicker of helplessness and pain in his eyes. His lips trembled slightly, as if he wanted to say something, but something seemed to choke him, preventing him from making a sound. He desperately wanted to grant his daughter's request. He knew she was probably unhappy at her current school, and he so wished he could provide her with a better learning environment and a brighter future. However, the 200,000 yuan transfer fee stood like an insurmountable mountain in his path. That money had already been spent on Lin's mother's medical treatment, and the family simply couldn't afford that much.

“Qianqian, Dad also wants to give you a better environment, but…” Lin’s father sighed, his voice filled with helplessness and despair, “You know our family’s situation. That money has already been used for your mother’s medical treatment. We really can’t afford to transfer you to another school now.”

Tears welled up in Lin's mother Zhao Guifang's eyes like a burst dam. Her body trembled, and her heart was filled with self-blame and guilt. She felt that she was a burden to the family and that her illness had deprived her daughter of the opportunity to change her fate.

"It's all my fault for being sick, a burden on this family. If I hadn't gotten sick, we wouldn't be struggling to afford to transfer you to another school." Lin's mother's voice was choked with sobs, each word like a sharp knife piercing her own heart.

Lin Qian quickly grasped her mother's hand, trying to offer her some comfort. "Mom, don't say that. You'll definitely get better. It's not your fault, I don't blame you." Lin Qian's voice was firm, but tears welled up in her eyes.

Lin's mother wiped away her tears, her eyes filled with worry. She asked suspiciously, "Qianqian, has someone bullied you again? Tell me, don't keep it to yourself."

Lin Qian shook her head, forcing a smile, and said, "No, Mom, really no. I just feel that the pressure of studying at this school is too great, and I want to change the environment so that I can study better."

Lin's father lowered his head helplessly, his eyes filled with pain and despair. He sighed heavily, a sigh that seemed to come from the depths of his soul, filled with helplessness towards life and uncertainty about the future.

Lin's mother couldn't help but sob, her cries sounding particularly jarring in the quiet room. She felt she had let her daughter down, failing to give her a healthy body, a warm home, and a bright future.
