Chapter 20: Educated Youth Sent Down to the Countryside (19)

After finishing her meal, Lin Qian packed the remaining food into a lunchbox and headed towards the door. Just then, Su Yao called out to her, "Lin Qian, where are you going?"

Lin Qian glanced back, said nothing, and continued walking out.

Watching Lin Qian's retreating figure, Su Yao's anger flared instantly. She bit her lip tightly, trying hard to control her emotions, but she couldn't show too much dissatisfaction on her face. She took a deep breath, forced a wronged look, and called out, "Brother Zhao Yu, look at Lin Qian, she doesn't take us seriously at all!"

Upon hearing Su Yao's words, Zhao Yu looked up at the direction Lin Qian had left in, then looked at Su Yao again, and said somewhat helplessly, "Alright, Su Yao, maybe Lin Qian has her own things to do. Don't worry about it too much."

Su Yao persisted, saying, "Brother Zhao Yu, why are you still taking her side? That's so rude of her!"

Liu Cui chimed in, "That's right, that's right! Lin Qian always acts so high and mighty, it's really annoying!"

Zhao Yu frowned and said, "We're all educated youth, and we'll be spending a lot of time together in the future. Let's not make things unpleasant over such a small matter."

Seeing that Zhao Yu wasn't entirely on her side, Su Yao felt even more dissatisfied, but she didn't say anything more. She just glared fiercely in the direction Lin Qian had left.

After finishing her meal, Lin Qian carried the packed food towards the post office. Along the way, she recalled the original owner's memories. Aunt Zhang was one of the few people in the city who genuinely cared about her. When the original owner was struggling financially, Aunt Zhang would always secretly give her food, a kindness Lin Qian had always remembered. She knew that in this era, having more friends meant having more options. Maintaining a good relationship with Aunt Zhang would not only bring her warmth but also allow her to stay informed about the Lin family's situation through Aunt Zhang.

Arriving at the post office, Lin Qian waited in line. Finally, it was her turn. She walked to the telephone and skillfully dialed Aunt Zhang's number.

Aunt Zhang's familiar voice came quickly from the other end of the phone: "Hello, who is this?"

Lin Qian smiled and said, "Aunt Zhang, it's me, Lin Qian!"

Upon hearing that it was Lin Qian, Aunt Zhang's voice immediately became enthusiastic: "Oh, it's Xiao Qian! How are you doing in the countryside?"

Lin Qian replied, "Aunt Zhang, I'm doing fine here, so don't worry. I just missed you and wanted to call and let you know."

Aunt Zhang said with emotion, "Good child, you still remember me. If you encounter any difficulties in the countryside, please be sure to tell me!"

Lin Qian replied, "I understand, Auntie. By the way, have you heard anything about my family lately?"

Aunt Zhang sighed and said, "After you left, your family was in complete chaos. Your eldest sister and third brother were signed up to go to the countryside. The news spread throughout the neighborhood, and everyone said it was what they deserved. They were never well-liked anyway, so it's good that they're going to the countryside to suffer!" Aunt Zhang had no idea that this was Lin Qian's doing.

Lin Qian was secretly delighted, but on the surface she remained calm and said, "Alas, there's nothing we can do about it."

Aunt Zhang said, "Xiao Qian, I felt really relieved after hearing about this. Those two guys are always so arrogant and domineering, let's see how cocky they are now!"

Oh, and something really big happened to your family a couple of days ago.

Your dad was reported for stealing and selling things from the factory.

That evening, your family was having dinner when suddenly a group of people from relevant departments arrived. They made a huge commotion, banging on the door. Your dad impatiently shouted, "Who is it at this hour?" When you opened the door, they said sternly, "Lin Wenchang, you are suspected of stealing and selling factory goods. Come with us."

Your dad panicked immediately, his face turned deathly pale, and your mom and your siblings were terrified. At this point, the neighbors heard the commotion and came out; the whole street gathered to see what was going on. Everyone was pointing and whispering, saying your dad got what he deserved. Oh dear, what a scene it was!"

Lin Qian felt a surge of joy, but said aloud, "Sigh, how could my dad do such a thing?"

Aunt Zhang continued, "That's right, what your dad did was really underhanded. Now your family can't hold our heads up in front of the neighbors. But Xiaoqian, don't take it to heart, this has nothing to do with you."

Lin Qian said, "Auntie, I understand."

Aunt Zhang laughed and scolded, "You're such a kind-hearted child. But it's good that they're going to the countryside; it'll save them from causing trouble in the city. By the way, you must take good care of yourself in the countryside!"

Lin Qian said, "Thank you, Aunt Zhang. I'll be fine, and you should take care of yourself too."

Lin Qian hung up the phone and went to the counter to collect her luggage in a cheerful mood. She knew she couldn't just bring two small packages, otherwise the people at the educated youth settlement would notice something was wrong.

Lin Qian walked to the counter and said to the clerk, "Comrade, I'm here to pick up my luggage." The clerk quickly took out her luggage, and after Lin Qian checked it and confirmed that everything was in order, she did not leave immediately.

Instead, Lin Qian approached the post office counter with a hint of anticipation on her face and said to the clerk, "Excuse me, sir, could you please tell me if you have any 'Red Stamp' or 'Monkey Stamp' here? I enjoy stamp collecting and am very interested in these two stamps."

The clerk looked up at Lin Qian, pondered for a moment, and said, "'Red Stamp' and 'Monkey Stamp', we don't have them here right now. But don't worry, I can keep an eye out for them for you."

A hint of joy flashed in Lin Qian's eyes, and she quickly said, "That's wonderful! I'm so sorry to have troubled you. These two stamps are very important to me. If you can help me find them, I will definitely thank you properly."
