Chapter 28: Educated Youth Sent Down to the Countryside (27 years)

In the following days, Lin Qian successfully "bumped into" Zhao Yu several more times using 003's location tracking. Like a precise planner, she meticulously selected suitable locations and times based on Zhao Yu's schedule and preferences, cleverly creating one seemingly coincidental encounter after another.

In these carefully arranged "chance encounters," Lin Qian and Zhao Yu's relationship gradually warmed up like the spring sun. They were pleasantly surprised to discover that they shared many common interests, from profound literature and elegant art to energetic sports; they could speak freely and engage in deep and enjoyable discussions. Their conversations became increasingly rich, evolving from initial polite greetings to profound exchanges on a spiritual level, and their inner worlds were unknowingly opening up to each other.

Lin Qian was secretly pleased with herself, clearly feeling that her plan was progressing steadily. She skillfully seized every precious opportunity to be with Zhao Yu, showcasing her charm and wisdom to the fullest, making Zhao Yu's interest in her grow stronger. However, Zhao Yu was completely unaware of the mystery behind these "chance encounters." He simply believed that there was a wonderful fate between him and Lin Qian, firmly believing that it was a clever arrangement of destiny that brought them together in this quiet village.

On this day, Lin Qian and Zhao Yu "coincidentally" met again under the old locust tree at the village entrance. Sunlight filtered through the dense leaves, casting dappled shadows and adding a touch of romance to their reunion. The two chatted happily, sharing their insights on a classic literary work, creating a harmonious and beautiful atmosphere.

Just then, Su Yao appeared. She wore a light blue polyester shirt paired with black trousers, looking simple and elegant. Her hair was styled into two braids that hung down in front of her chest, adding a touch of docility. Her face showed just the right amount of surprise and confusion, but a hint of jealousy and anger flashed in her eyes.

"Brother Zhao Yu, what are you and Lin Zhiqing talking about?" Su Yao's voice was clear and melodious, like the first ray of sunlight in the morning shining on crystal dewdrops, making a crisp sound, with a hint of coquettishness that was not easily detected, just like the ripples on the surface of a lake when a gentle breeze touched it.

She bit her lower lip slightly, her pearly teeth gently sinking into her pink lips, making them appear even more luscious. Her gaze shifted between Zhao Yu and Lin Qian, her eyes seemingly containing complex emotions. Her eyes first quickly swept over Zhao Yu, carrying a hint of expectation and dependence, like a kitten seeking warmth, yearning for Zhao Yu's attention and response.

However, when her gaze turned to Lin Qian, a barely perceptible hint of hostility and displeasure flashed across her eyes. Her gaze lingered briefly on Lin Qian, as if it were just a fleeting glance, but that instant was filled with scrutiny and wariness.

Su Yao wore a seemingly innocent smile, but a closer look revealed that the smile didn't reach her eyes. Hidden within her deep gaze was a trace of unease and anxiety. Her eyebrows furrowed slightly, forming a faint wrinkle, like a ripple on a calm lake, revealing her inner unease. Her fingers unconsciously twisted the hem of her dress, which, in her hands, resembled a helpless little animal, unconsciously manipulated—a small gesture that highlighted her tension and anxiety.

“Brother Zhao Yu, I saw you two chatting happily here, so I couldn’t resist coming over,” Su Yao continued, her voice carrying a hint of coquettishness, like soft silk gently brushing against one’s heart. “What interesting things are you talking about? Can you share them with me?” Her eyes were full of curiosity, but behind that curiosity lay a trace of jealousy. She hoped that Zhao Yu would notice her presence and spend more attention and time on her, rather than chatting happily with Lin Qian.

Zhao Yu looked at Su Yao, a helpless smile on his face. He didn't notice the complex emotions in Su Yao's heart, only that her appearance was somewhat abrupt. In his eyes, Su Yao had always been a lively and lovely girl, but today she seemed a little different. "Nothing special, just chatting casually," Zhao Yu replied casually, his tone perfunctory, clearly not taking Su Yao's question to heart.

Lin Qian stood quietly to the side. She keenly sensed Su Yao's hostility towards her, but she did not show any dissatisfaction or aversion. She just smiled at Su Yao. Her smile was like the winter sun, warm and bright, but behind this warm smile was a trace of indifference that was not easily detected.

Hearing Zhao Yu's reply, Su Yao felt a pang of disappointment. She had thought Zhao Yu would share their conversation, making her feel important to him, but his response made her feel ignored. A flicker of disappointment crossed her eyes, but she quickly masked it. "Oh, is that so? Then, Brother Zhao Yu, shall we go for a walk by the river later?" Su Yao tried to change the subject, hoping to spend some time alone with Zhao Yu and let him feel her charm.

Zhao Yu hesitated for a moment, glancing at Lin Qian and then at Su Yao, feeling somewhat conflicted. He didn't know how to refuse Su Yao, nor did he want to make Lin Qian uncomfortable. "Well... I have some things to do later, so I might not be able to go," Zhao Yu said, a hint of apology in his eyes.

A hint of disappointment crossed Su Yao's face; she hadn't expected Zhao Yu to reject her. "Alright then, Brother Zhao Yu, you go ahead and do your thing," Su Yao said, a touch of helplessness in her voice. She glared at Lin Qian fiercely, then turned and left.
