Chapter 29 Broken Youth 19

The next day, the sun shone weakly on every corner of the city, seemingly sighing for the fate of the Lin and Su families. Inside the Lin and Su family mansions, the tense, almost frozen atmosphere weighed down like a heavy mountain, making it nearly impossible to breathe. Birds flapped their wings in panic, fleeing this oppressive area, and the entire mansion fell into a deathly silence.

In the Lin family's main hall, Lin Weifeng paced anxiously like a trapped beast. His forehead was covered in fine beads of sweat, which glistened in the sunlight, seemingly a manifestation of his inner fear. His eyes revealed deep anxiety; each blink seemed an attempt to escape the impending doom.

"What on earth is going on? Why haven't we heard anything from the investigators yet?" Lin Weifeng finally stopped, his voice hoarse and trembling with anger and fear. He slammed his fist on the table with such force that it seemed he wanted to shatter it to pieces.

"Dad, I don't know either. This all happened so suddenly." Lin Yue sat on the sofa, her body trembling like a leaf in the wind. Her voice was choked with sobs, her eyes filled with helplessness and fear, tears welling up in her eyes as if they were about to burst forth at any moment.

"It's all your fault! You're always causing me trouble! Now look what's happened, you've ruined the whole family!" Lin Weifeng turned around and glared at Lin Yue, his eyes filled with anger and disappointment, as if Lin Yue was the culprit behind all this disaster.

"I... I never expected it to turn out like this, Dad!" Lin Yue said aggrievedly, her tears finally welling up and sliding down her cheeks, leaving clear tear tracks.

Meanwhile, the atmosphere in the Su family was equally oppressive, almost suffocating. Su Zhenguo sat on the sofa with a gloomy expression, his knuckles white from the strain, and the veins on the back of his hands bulging like small snakes about to burst forth.

"That Su Ran, she's always causing me trouble!" Su Zhenguo said through gritted teeth, his voice filled with anger and helplessness. Su Ran seemed to be a permanent source of pain in his heart.

"Husband, you have to think of something! We can't let ourselves be defeated like this!" Su Ran's mother said anxiously from the side, her eyes filled with fear and unease, her hands constantly twisting the hem of her clothes, as if this could alleviate her extreme anxiety.

"What can I do? Things have come to this!" Su Zhenguo waved his hand irritably, his movements appearing utterly powerless, as if he had given up all hope and abandoned any thought of resistance.

Time passed slowly in this tense atmosphere, each minute and second feeling like an endless torment. The afternoon sunlight gradually softened, its warm rays streaming through the windows into the room, yet unable to warm the already cold hearts of the Lin and Su families.

Suddenly, a piercing siren blared from afar, like a sharp dagger mercilessly shattering the false tranquility. Officials quickly surrounded the Lin and Su families' residences. Police cars were neatly parked at the gate, their flashing lights glaringly bright in the setting sun, their red and blue beams creating a powerful sense of oppression, as if the iron fist of justice was about to fall.

The staff members wore solemn expressions, their steps firm and powerful, each step carrying an irresistible authority, as if they were the embodiment of justice, here to judge these wicked souls. They entered the courtyard, their synchronized footsteps echoing through the empty space like the drumbeats of death, instilling a deep fear in everyone's hearts.

"We are staff members from the relevant department. We received a report that your two families are suspected of multiple illegal and criminal activities. Now, we are going to take the individuals involved into custody for investigation and, in accordance with the law, seize all the houses and illegal assets under your names." The staff member's voice was cold and firm, like the merciless tolling of a judgment bell in everyone's ears. His voice echoed in the empty courtyard, like heavy hammer blows striking everyone's hearts, filling them with fear and despair.

The Lin and Su families were immediately gripped by extreme panic. Their faces turned ashen, their eyes filled with shock and fear, as if they were witnessing the end of the world.

"How could this be? There must be a mistake!" Su Zhenguo's face was pale, and his voice trembled like a leaf about to wither in the wind. "My Su family is a prominent family in this city. You can't treat me like this!" He tried to resist his impending fate with his status and position, but his voice was filled with despair and helplessness.

"That's right, do you know who I am? Do you know who my husband is?" Su Ran's mother glared, trying to intimidate the staff with her identity. Her eyes were filled with arrogance and disdain, as if she believed her identity could allow her to escape legal punishment. "My husband has connections with people in high places, do you dare to touch us?" Her voice was sharp and shrill, but it couldn't hide the fear in her heart.

"Stop talking nonsense! We are acting in accordance with the law. No matter what your background is, you cannot escape the punishment of the law!" the staff member replied without any mercy. His eyes were full of determination and justice, and his voice was like a sharp sword, piercing through Su Ran's mother's arrogance and ignorance.

The Lin family's side was also in complete chaos.

"Our Lin family has been wronged! You are abusing your power!" Lin Weifeng roared angrily, his voice booming like thunder in the courtyard. His eyes were filled with anger and despair, and he tried to use his voice to cover up his inner fear, but his voice sounded so pale and powerless.
