Chapter 34: Educated Youth Sent Down to the Countryside (33)

Wang Qiang was hiding in a corner of the village, his heart pounding with anxiety. He knew the brigade leader had sent someone to look for him, and a wave of panic washed over him.

"Damn it, how did this get so big!" Wang Qiang cursed inwardly. He began to regret provoking Lin Qian for those small benefits. Now that things had been exposed, he didn't know how to face the captain and Lin Qian.

"If the captain finds out the truth, I'm definitely in big trouble." Wang Qiang became increasingly frightened as he thought about it, and fine beads of sweat appeared on his forehead. He considered whether to run away, but then felt that doing so would only make things worse.

"No, I have to think of a way to deal with this." Wang Qiang racked his brains for an excuse, trying to justify his actions. "Maybe I can say that Widow Liu is slandering me, and I didn't ask her to spread rumors at all. Yes, that's what I'll do!" Wang Qiang thought to himself, feeling a little more at ease.

Just then, the two young men who had been looking for Wang Qiang were almost there. Wang Qiang heard the footsteps, his heart tightened, and he took a deep breath, bracing himself for the impending storm.

The two young men who went to find Wang Qiang finally found him.

"Wang Qiang, the captain wants to see you!" one of the young men shouted.

Wang Qiang forced himself to remain calm and asked, "What do you want?"

"Stop talking nonsense and come with us!" another young man said impatiently.

Wang Qiang had no choice but to follow them to Widow Liu's house. His heart pounded as he walked, constantly thinking of a way to cope.

When they arrived at Widow Liu's house, the brigade leader saw Wang Qiang and stared at him coldly, asking, "Wang Qiang, did Widow Liu say that you asked her to spread rumors about Lin Qian?"

Wang Qiang's eyes darted around, and he retorted, "Captain, this is truly a misunderstanding! How could I do such a thing? It must be that Widow Liu made it up herself to try and drag me down with her."

Upon hearing this, Lin Qian angrily said, "Wang Qiang, you dare to do it but not admit it! Widow Liu has already admitted it, and you're still trying to argue!"

Wang Qiang, however, refused to admit it: "Lin Qian, don't make baseless accusations! I have no grudge against you, why would I spread rumors about you?"

At this point, the villagers also began to criticize Wang Qiang.

"Wang Qiang, what's wrong with you? You did something wrong and you won't admit it!"

"Exactly, that's outrageous!"

The captain's face grew even darker, and he said, "Wang Qiang, you'd better tell the truth, or you'll face the consequences!"

Wang Qiang panicked, but still stubbornly insisted, "Captain, I'm really being framed!"

Just then, 003 said in Lin Qian's mind, "Host, I don't think Wang Qiang will admit it easily. We need to think of a way to make him reveal a flaw."

Lin Qian replied in her heart, "I understand, I will think of a way."

Lin Qian stared coldly at Wang Qiang, her eyes burning with what seemed like two raging flames that threatened to devour him. She gritted her teeth, forcing out the words, "Wang Qiang, you say you're innocent? Then dare you swear to God? If you really didn't do it, may God punish you to a terrible death!" Her body trembled slightly, her hands clenched into fists, her nails almost digging into her flesh.

Wang Qiang froze, his eyes darting around like a startled rabbit, his facial muscles twitching involuntarily, revealing a hint of panic. His gaze wandered, unable to meet Lin Qian's all-seeing eyes, his lips trembling, his throat feeling as if something was blocking it, unable to utter a single word.

Seeing this, the captain's face darkened like the sky before a storm, as if it could be wrung out of black water. He slammed his fist on the table in anger, the loud noise echoing through the room, making everyone's ears ring. His eyes widened, and he shouted sternly, "Wang Qiang, what else do you have to say?"

Wang Qiang knew he could no longer deny it. His face instantly turned ashen, and his eyes revealed deep despair. His shoulders slumped, as if crushed by an invisible mountain. Finally, he lowered his head, and with a desperate, shameless air, admitted, "I did it. I just didn't like Lin Qian. Actually... actually, I like her. She's from the city, beautiful and rich. I want to marry her, so I came up with this idea." As he said this, a nauseatingly lewd expression lingered on his face.

Lin Qian angrily said to 003 in her heart, "Host, this Wang Qiang is too disgusting! How could he say such things!" She felt a wave of nausea wash over her, and she couldn't help but gag. She secretly lamented, "I feel so nauseous, I want to throw up. I can't keep up this act anymore."

003 quickly reassured him, "Host, hold on! We can't let this guy succeed; our plan must continue."

Lin Qian took a deep breath, trying to calm herself down and suppress her discomfort. She continued to stare at Wang Qiang with cold eyes, waiting for things to develop further.

The captain pointed angrily at Wang Qiang, his face ashen and his fingers trembling slightly. He shouted, "Wang Qiang, you've gone too far! Your behavior is utterly morally corrupt!" His voice, like a booming bell, echoed in the room, filled with anger and authority.

Just then, the village chief rushed over. His forehead was covered in fine beads of sweat, and his face was filled with deep anxiety and worry. He was breathing heavily, constantly wiping away his sweat, his eyes filled with unease. Because the village chief was vying for the "Outstanding Village" award, he knew that if this matter wasn't handled properly, it could seriously affect the selection results.
