Chapter 44: Educated Youth Sent Down to the Countryside (43)

Lin Qian arrived at the state-run restaurant and found a relatively quiet empty seat. She gently patted the dust off her clothes, breathed a sigh of relief, then called the waiter and ordered a braised pork, a stir-fried vegetable dish, and a bowl of rice. She also packed a braised pork and a braised fish for 003, and bought some steamed buns and dumplings.

Soon, the steaming hot food was served. Lin Qian's appetite was immediately whetted by the rich aroma of the braised pork. She eagerly picked up her chopsticks, ready to savor the meal. Just then, Zhao Yu and Su Yao walked in. Lin Qian's gaze lingered on them briefly, her expression changing slightly, a hint of displeasure rising within her. However, she quickly composed herself, regaining her composure, and continued eating her food as if they weren't there.

When Zhao Yu saw Lin Qian, a hint of hesitation flashed in his eyes. He knew that Lin Qian's attitude towards them was not friendly, but he still decided to bite the bullet and walk over. His steps were slightly heavy, and he wore an awkward smile.

Zhao Yu said somewhat awkwardly, "Lin Qian, there are no other seats available here. Can we share a table with you?" His voice carried a hint of pleading.

Lin Qian didn't even look up, and said indifferently, "Whatever." Her tone was cold, without the slightest bit of enthusiasm.

Seeing this, Zhao Yu and Su Yao had no choice but to sit down opposite Lin Qian. Su Yao seemed somewhat uneasy; her eyes darted around, occasionally stealing glances at Lin Qian, her gaze filled with guilt and unease. Her hands were clasped tightly together, revealing her inner tension.

Zhao Yu cleared his throat, trying to break the awkward atmosphere, and said, "Lin Qian, we bought you some food at the supply and marketing cooperative, including biscuits, pastries, and malted milk powder, along with the military overcoat from before. It's a small token of Su Yao's apology to you." As he spoke, he placed the things he brought on the table.

Lin Qian sneered and said sarcastically, "Oh, really? Then should I thank you?" Her eyes were full of disdain.

Zhao Yu quickly said, "Lin Qian, please don't be like this. We know Su Yao did a lot of wrong things before, and this is what we want to do to make amends. Su Yao really knows she was wrong. She regrets it every day and can't sleep at night. Lin Qian, please be magnanimous and forgive her this time." Zhao Yu's expression was sincere, and his eyes were pleading.

Lin Qian put down her chopsticks, raised her head, and looked at Zhao Yu with icy eyes, saying, "Make amends? Do you think these things can make up for the harm she caused me?" Her voice rose slightly, filled with anger and resentment.

Zhao Yu said helplessly, "I know this may not be enough, but we really want you to forgive us." His eyes held a hint of helplessness and guilt.

At this moment, Su Yao's eyes reddened, and she said in a tearful voice, "Sister Lin Qian, I really know I was wrong, please forgive me. I was really out of my mind to do those terrible things. I will definitely change in the future, Sister Lin Qian, please give me a chance." Her eyes were full of pleading, and she looked pitiful.

Lin Qian glanced at Su Yao, her eyes devoid of any pity, and said, "Su Yao, I do not accept your apology. This matter cannot be resolved with just an apology." Her attitude was resolute and unwavering.

Lin Qian ignored them, quickly finished her meal, and then got up to leave the state-run restaurant.

Zhao Yu and Su Yao watched Lin Qian's departing figure and sighed helplessly.

Su Yao wiped away her tears and said aggrievedly, "Brother Zhao Yu, it's all my fault. Sister Lin Qian still won't forgive me. What should I do?"

Zhao Yu frowned and said, "It's not entirely your fault. Lin Qian is still angry. Let's think of another way."

Su Yao bit her lip and said, "Brother Zhao Yu, do you think I'm really annoying? Sister Lin Qian hates me so much, I... I feel so sad."

Zhao Yu comforted her, "Don't say that, Su Yao. Let's take it slow. There will always be a way to make Lin Qian forgive you."

Lin Qian's complexion remained poor after leaving the state-run restaurant. As she walked, she communicated with 003 in her mind.

Lin Qian: "003, what do you think Zhao Yu and Su Yao are up to?"

003: "Host, I think they want to ask for your forgiveness, but Su Yao doesn't seem sincere."

Lin Qian snorted coldly: "Forgive? The things they did are not so easily forgiven."

003: "The host is right, but they don't seem to be giving up easily."

Lin Qian frowned: "Who cares about them? I don't want to be bothered by their affairs anymore."

003: "So, what are the host's plans next?"

Lin Qian thought for a moment and said, "Let's go home first. I bought a lot of things at the black market and the supply and marketing cooperative today. I need to sort them out."

003: "Okay, host. Shall we leave Su Yao and Zhao Yu's matter for now?"

Lin Qian said firmly, "They should bear the consequences of their own actions."

After saying that, Lin Qian quickened her pace and walked towards the oxcart.

Su Yao watched Lin Qian's departing figure, biting her lip tightly, her eyes flashing with angry flames, and the resentment in her heart surging like a tidal wave.

"Lin Qian, I've already apologized to you so humbly, and you still don't appreciate it!" she thought fiercely to herself. "I've disregarded my own pride, yet you still act so high and mighty. What gives you the right?"

Su Yao's hands clenched into fists unconsciously, her nails digging deep into her palms, yet she seemed oblivious to the pain. The thought of Zhao Yu's gaze towards Lin Qian fueled her burning anger even more fiercely.
