Lin Yi had just closed the door of the body freezer when his PHS phone in his pocket began to ring again. Seeing that he hadn't answered it yet, his colleague Da Liu was very surprised: "Hey, your phone has been ringing for a long time, why don't you answer it?"
Lin Yi shrugged his shoulders speechlessly, his expression under the mask full of helplessness. He came here after lunch today, and up to now, he has received a total of eight calls, two of which were spam sales calls, one was a wrong number, and the remaining five were all complaints.
The original body's son, Zhou Mingming, was indeed a troublemaker.
When the two of them came out of the morgue, it was time to get off work. Lin Yi took off his sterile gloves and carefully disinfected his hands under the tap, washing for more than ten minutes. Da Liu laughed at him, "What new problem have you developed? If you keep washing, your hands will be chapped."
Normally it only takes 20 seconds, or a minute at most, to wash. Why does it feel like when I was just transferred to the morgue?
Seeing that he remained silent, Da Liu shook his head and laughed, shaking off the water droplets on his hands and said, "Then I'll leave first. Today is my son's birthday, and I promised to pick him up from school, hehe."
This time, Lin Yi waved his hand: "Okay, you go first, I'll stay for a while." He was thinking about whether to write a resignation letter now, and then take the accumulated annual leave. After the vacation is over and the resignation is approved, he won't have to come here to deal with corpses.
He did what he said. He went back to the duty room, changed out of his work clothes, took out a stack of letter paper, picked up a pen and wrote a letter of resignation. After finishing, he said hello to his colleagues on duty and walked towards the personnel department of the hospital.
The director of the personnel department was extremely arrogant. He only approved his annual leave and refused to persuade him to resign. He even lectured Lin Yi in public: "Zhou Dagang, Zhou Dagang, you're really getting more and more capable. Look at you, those people who graduated with you, the worst of them are now associate chief physicians, right? But you're so far down the ladder that even the morgue can't accommodate you, right?"
These words were quite unpleasant to the ear. Lin Yi frowned and couldn't help but retort: "The morgue is full of dead people, please don't curse me."
The director also felt that what he had just said seemed a bit ambiguous. He suppressed his anger, lowered his voice, and asked, "Then tell me, you are doing a good job, why do you want to resign? What will you do after resigning? Does your Cuifang agree with your decision?"
The director of the personnel department happened to live in the same unit as the Zhou family, and the two families had a good relationship. Previously, Zhou Dagang was almost expelled from the hospital because of his bad temper and improper handling of doctor-patient relationships. It was thanks to the help of this director neighbor that he was transferred to the logistics department of the morgue. So when Lin Yi said he wanted to resign, the old man was very qualified to take charge.
Faced with the old man's questioning, Lin Yi was unable to say anything for a while. He was also afraid of angering the old man on the spot. Besides, he should really discuss it with Cuifang before making a decision.
So, he grabbed the resignation letter on the table and stuffed it into his trouser pocket, saying with a smile on his face, "Boss, please calm down. I won't resign for now. I'll take a vacation first. We can talk again when I come back. Boss, you're busy, so I'm leaving."
"Hmph," the director glared at him angrily. Lin Yi had already left the personnel department, and he could still hear the old man saying behind him, "Don't act so impulsively every day. You're already so old, and you're still threatening to resign. Do you want to be an idler?"
Lin Yi hurried a few steps, passed through two security doors, and the sound gradually faded away. He breathed a sigh of relief, but then the pager in his pocket started ringing again. He took it out and saw that it was the landline at home.
"Hello" Lin Yi pressed the answer button.
A string of high-pitched curses came from the other end of the phone. Lin Yi quickly held the phone away from his ear. The caller was none other than his original body's mother, 65-year-old Ms. Qiao Chunfeng. The old lady's voice was full of energy. It seemed that she either took good care of herself or had a bad temper.
Lin Yi waited until the voice on the other end of the phone stopped before putting the pager to his ear and said in a gentle voice, "What are you yelling about? I'm going back now. If you have anything else, I'll talk to you when I get back."
Without waiting for the old lady to speak, he hung up.
It's not his fault that he doesn't respect his mother. It's just that the old lady is too tough. He is already forty years old. If he does something to upset the old lady, she will beat him up, and scolding him is commonplace. Just from the tone of her voice on the phone, he knew that she was angry again. He should not make himself uncomfortable.
The hospital's family quarters were just across the wall from the hospital. He lingered and returned home. The old lady, still furious, tiptoed up to him and pulled his ear: "You good-for-nothing! Your father and I gave birth to you for nothing. You can't educate a ten-year-old child? If you can't educate him, don't give birth to one! You're always trying to make trouble for me. Tell me, I called you eight hundred times today, and you didn't answer. What do you mean? Huh?"
Lin Yi felt pain in his ears, but he didn't dare to struggle too much, fearing that he would hurt the old lady. He begged for mercy: "It hurts, it hurts, Mommy, let go, let go."
The old lady was still furious, so how could he let go? Lin Yi had no choice but to pick up the little old lady. This sudden move scared the old lady so much that she let go, and Lin Yi put her on the sofa.
He rubbed his ears and said to the old lady, "What could possibly be so irritating? Did your grandson get into trouble again?"
The old lady snorted and was about to speak when Lin Yi said, "He gets into trouble, so what? Aren't you used to it? It would be a rare thing if he didn't get into trouble one day. Tell me, what did he do?"
