"Sure, no problem."
Shen Meiren looked at his face and hesitated for a moment before finally nodding and stepping aside to let him into the house.
The house was warm and smelled of cake; it was a completely different world from the outside.
Chi Yuan placed his hand on his collar, intending to take off his outer cloak, when the baby's babbling caught his attention.
"Mr. Vanilla brought a child with him?"
As expected, this nickname made Shen Yulou laugh, and he poured him a glass of water on the living room table.
"Yes, Mr. Vanilla has taken human form, and his seeds have taken human form along with him."
Shen Yulou gestured for him to sit down, and then jokingly referred to himself by that name.
The man opposite nodded thoughtfully, as if he really believed it, staring at the little one's chubby dinosaur tail as he turned away.
Such cute clothes, I want to touch them and pinch them.
“My name is Shen Yulou, you can call me Mr. Shen.”
Sensing that Chi Yuan was distracted, Shen Yulou leaned forward and brought up a topic with a smile.
"Okay, Mr. Shen."
"Is this the name you gave yourself? It sounds nice."
Chi Yuan looked away, his face showing a polite distance.
He held the teacup in both hands, took a sip of tea, and wisps of steam rose from his lips.
"Thank you for the compliment. May I ask what brings you here, Mr. Chi?"
Shen Yulou tilted his head, scooped out a piece of cupcake with a spoon, and put it in his mouth to chew.
Eating is the perfect time to chat, and you can even pretend to have food stuffed in your mouth when things get awkward.
"It's nothing major, just some news to inform Mr. Shen."
"Mr. Shen's dessert shop has obtained its opening permit, and the license will be approved soon."
The rising steam from the teacup obscured their faces, preventing either of them from seeing the other's expression.
Judging from his tone, Shen Yulou guessed that Chi Yuan was still happy.
"Thanks."
"It's too much trouble for the general to come and personally convey such a small matter."
Shen Yulou reached out and fanned away the white mist in front of him, while Chi Yuan tasted the flavor of matcha macarons.
Surprised? He smelled it.
Chi Yuan must have eaten a matcha-flavored macaron he made before he came.
"This is no small matter; anything concerning concentration camps is a big deal."
Hearing Chi Yuan's serious tone, Shen Yulou gave him an admiring look.
"Are my macarons delicious?"
He lowered his eyes and asked the question casually, curious about how Chi Yuan would react to his words.
Should I just answer that it's delicious? Or am I too embarrassed to answer?
"It's delicious, the taste is great."
"After the opening, there will definitely be many customers."
Chi Yuan nodded, offering praise and words of blessing.
"And you? Do you come here often?"
Shen Yulou reached over the cup in front of him, picked up the cupcake spoon, and stuck it into the soft cake in front of him.
"Thank you, I can do it myself."
Upon seeing the spoon being presented to him, Chi Yuan stepped back slightly, pinching the slender handle with two fingers and pulling the spoon from Shen Yulou's hand.
Warm breath sprayed onto Shen Yulou's fingertips, and he couldn't help but rub his fingers for a while as he withdrew his hand.
Chi Yuan saw all of this, and the fingertips holding the spoon handle couldn't help but twitch.
It seemed as if the warmth of Shen Yulou's fingers still lingered on it; it was warm and moist.
"There will be many people buying it, so I won't compete with them."
Turning his head to hide his eyes from Shen Yulou, Chi Yuan pressed his fingers on the spoon handle where Shen Yulou's fingertips had been.
"You don't need to fight with everyone else, I'll save it especially for you."
Shen Yulou's tone was unlike anything Chi Yuan had ever heard before, giving him goosebumps all over.
They practically had the word "favoritism" written all over their faces.
His eyes, too, held a fleeting, intense heat.
Chi Yuan disappeared before he could avoid it. There was no way to escape, and he could only let his heart skip a beat.
"No need, Mr. Shen, just treat everyone the same."
“I’m no different from them. If I want to eat here, I’ll come and queue up in advance.”
