Chapter 146 A Night of Chaos

Luo Jiu's voice came from under the covers, her tone calm, yet it inexplicably frightened Xu Shaojun.

"She...is gone."

Xu Shaojun didn't know how to comfort Luo Jiu; his voice was filled with helplessness.

"The remains have been sent for cremation, and Lin Fu... has been guarding them there."

This young woman is in the prime of her life; the best years of her life are just beginning. She has just met the love of her life, and they still have so much to do and so many wishes to fulfill.

To lie there so unexpectedly in the cold underworld—how cruel that is.

"You said you would help Shi Zhenlin prepare things, but was it just to delay him and find a place to strike?"

Luo Jiu's words sent a jolt through Xu Shaojun.

"Why would you think that?" Xu Shaojun's lips curled into a bitter smile.

Luo Jiu fell silent. The air returned to its initial stillness.

Xu Shaojun looked at her with a complicated expression.

He initially asked Lin Fu to prepare things because he genuinely wanted to let him leave. If Shi Zhenlin hadn't been careless and slipped, he wouldn't have ended up firing the gun.

He knew Shi Zhenlin was left-handed and wouldn't be able to handle a gun properly with his right hand. He was absolutely certain he wouldn't hurt Luo Jiu before firing.

But no matter what, it was my fault for not protecting her and putting her in danger.

Once Xu Shaojun had thought it through, he slowly sat down on the edge of the bed and leaned over to look at the little face covered by the blanket.

"Give me some space, hmm~"

Xu Shaojun nuzzled her face, trying to pull her up.

But Luo Jiu refused, even closing her eyes. She didn't want to see the large, square face before her.

Her face was extremely pale, and her once alluring red lips had lost their color. She was like a lifeless flower, fragile, and drifting like duckweed.

Xu Shaojun felt extremely sorry for Luo Jiu because of this.

She was the girl I cherished most, the girl I was willing to give my life for, yet I unknowingly hurt her the most.

For several days in a row, Luo Jiu stayed in this bedroom and hardly got out of bed. A doctor came to see her every day, and Xiao Li would bring her three meals a day on time.

Every morning, noon, and evening, as long as Xu Shaojun was home, he would come to keep her company. He brought her all sorts of strange and unusual things to cheer her up.

Later, Xu Shaojun became increasingly infatuated with her. Whenever he was home, he would appear wherever Luo Jiu could see him, as if he were deeply in love and nothing had happened before.

However, Luo Jiu's attitude seemed to have lost its enthusiasm; in the end, the romance was only enjoyed by one person.

Luo Jiu initially didn't want to get out of bed, but later she discovered that Xu Shaojun seemed to have confined her to the house.

What's more, if Xu Shaojun isn't home, Luo Jiu isn't even allowed to leave her room.

Overnight, she felt as if she had been locked in a cage, like a domesticated canary, with no freedom whatsoever.

This made Luo Jiu feel inexplicably afraid.

One night, Xu Shaojun drank a little alcohol and, smelling strongly of alcohol, went to Luo Jiu's room and woke her up.

"Jiu'er, Jiu'er..."

Xu Shaojun used his newly grown, stubble-like beard to prick Luo Jiu's cheek. His usually deep and clear eyes were now clouded by drunkenness.

Xu Shaojun murmured softly, his voice low and hoarse, calling out her name repeatedly.

Luo Jiu was half asleep when she was woken up and pushed away Xu Shaojun, who was rubbing his face against hers.

"Stop it..."

Upon hearing this, Xu Shaojun, like a giant Akita dog, immediately had his eyes light up, wishing he could pounce on Luo Jiu right away.

Luo Jiu was forced to open her eyes, and what came into view was Xu Shaojun's face, which was slightly red from the alcohol.

"Jiu'er, you're awake..."

Xu Shaojun's lips curled into a smug smile, and before Luo Jiu could react, he pressed his lips to hers like a hungry wolf.

The rich aroma of wine and the subtle fragrance of fruit mingled on their lips. The man's lips were incredibly passionate, as if he wanted to devour Luo Jiu whole, kissing her until she felt numb.

Luo Jiu was scalded by his breath, the temperature rising between them. Her already groggy mind was now like a sticky paste, all jumbled together.

She was kissed until she lost all strength, and wanting to grab onto something, she vaguely reached out and wrapped her arms around Xu Shaojun's waist.

Unexpectedly, this action greatly encouraged Xu Shaojun. He gradually became dissatisfied with the kiss and reached into Luo Jiu's clothes.

A night of chaos.

...

In the early morning, when the first rays of sunlight shone in, Luo Jiu woke up in Xu Shaojun's arms.

The sunlight was so bright it was almost blinding, making Luo Jiu want to reach out and shield her eyes, only to find that her whole body felt as if it had been run over by a truck, so sore that she couldn't lift her head.

The man behind her chuckled for a moment, shielding her from the sun with one hand and tightening his grip on her slender waist with the other, his entire body pressed against hers without any gap.

In an instant, all the memories of last night flooded back. Luo Jiu blushed with embarrassment.

Xu Shaojun rested his head on Luo Jiu's shoulder, occasionally stealing kisses on her cheek, having a great time all by himself.

"Don't……"

Luo Jiu, who had just woken up, was soft and cuddly. Her words sounded like the meows of a newborn kitten, making one want to hold her in their arms and kiss her a few more times.

However, Xu Shaojun did exactly that.

This was the second time there had been a knock on the door.

"Miss, I'm coming in."

Xiao Li has figured out Luo Jiu's daily routine over the past few days, and she should be up by now.

Luo Jiu hurriedly pushed away Xu Shaojun, who was clinging to her, and said softly with a slightly hoarse voice:

"Go get dressed quickly."

Xu Shaojun smiled, kissed her again, and then obediently picked up the clothes from the ground.

He was wearing clothes from the previous day, still reeking of alcohol, when he came face to face with Xiao Li, who was carrying a breakfast tray.

He even gave her a few words of advice in a good mood, but Xiao Li was probably scared to death.

When I came in, I saw Luo Jiu curled up tightly in the quilt like a cat, with only her reddened head showing.

Xiao Li understood perfectly well what had happened last night.

“Miss, you didn’t tell me. If I had known the Major General was with you last night, I wouldn’t have come to bother you so early.”

Xiao Li looked at her teasingly, as if she knew everything.

"No, he drank last night..."

Luo Jiu explained in a low voice, as if she were explaining it to herself.

Yes, he drank last night, that's why...

But another voice says, "He's confused, but you're not. Don't make so many excuses. Luo Jiu, you were willing, even if he accidentally caused Shi Zixi's death and restricted your freedom, you still love him..."

Luo Jiu, admit it, your feelings for him go beyond just liking him. You love him, so you're willing to give him everything you have.
