Chapter 26 The Hunt

A week passed in a battle of wits with Gu Muchen. The end of the month quietly approached, and all preparations for the spring hunt were complete.

Luo Jiu finally mastered horseback riding skills during this week, so that during the spring hunt, everyone else would ride horses while she rode in a carriage, making her a laughingstock.

Although he didn't want to be emperor, he couldn't refuse; the emperor's dignity could not be lost.

The hunt would take two days and one night at the hunting grounds, so Luo Jiu decided to go out for a stroll and make her presence known, so she stayed in the tent.

Only after it's over do they come out as mascots to offer superficial congratulations and bestow some rewards, then they can return home in triumph. It's truly delightful.

"Master, please boost your ambition a bit." 007 couldn't help but complain.

- Hmm... What is ambition? Can you eat it?

[...] You've completely disgraced the emperor.

- 007, behave yourself and don't give me any hidden missions.

However, if you don't go hunting, your subjects will become suspicious.

- Waaaaah... Such cute little animals, how could you let me kill them?

[...] I am a cold-blooded and ruthless killer.

...

Sitting in the carriage, I bantered with 007. Bathed in the warm spring sunshine, this kind of weather would be perfect for a spring outing if we weren't out hunting.

"Your Majesty, we have arrived at Yai Mountain."

The spring breeze blows, and the war drums beat. The Imperial Guards surround Yai Mountain, their shouts ringing out. Princes, ministers, and all officials of the sixth rank and above have arrived. Mounted on their warhorses, they are ready to charge into the woods at any moment and display the might of the Great Qi army to their emperor.

Luo Jiu dismounted from the carriage and mounted the warhorse that Eunuch Li had chosen for her.

Luo Jiu looked around. Gu Muchen was dressed in a black riding outfit, his ink-black hair was tied up high with a jade crown, and he was riding a black steed, looking very majestic and powerful.

Seeing Luo Jiu looking in his direction, he nodded in greeting. After more than a week of getting along, thanks to Luo Jiu's persistent efforts, Gu Muchen's favorability towards her was gradually increasing.

Although she occasionally loses her temper for no apparent reason, as long as Luo Jiu's apology is sincere and timely, her relationship with the male lead is still quite harmonious.

To Luo Jiu's surprise, Rong Yu also came. Eunuch Li had told her that Rong Yu was a friend of the Regent, and that he had been invited. It was likely that something untoward had happened during the hunt, and this was a precaution. Having the renowned physician present would put her at ease.

Rong Yu, as usual, was dressed in white, sitting upright in his wheelchair, smiling at her. There was a hint of something in his eyes that Luo Jiu couldn't quite decipher.

Luo Jiu thought that Young Master Rongyu probably already recognized her. She smiled apologetically at him. Taking someone else's sachet and prayer beads, and then trying to hide her identity—it was really going too far.

Hundreds of eyes turned to look at him, giving Luo Jiu a sense of solemnity and grandeur, as if a national leader were visiting.

Luo Jiu cleared her throat and launched into a passionate speech, using a script she had painstakingly pleaded with 007 the previous night. She concluded with:

"Set off!"

Having said that, he led the charge, riding his horse through the crowd into the woods. A large group of over a hundred men followed closely behind. The horses' hooves pounded the trees, kicking up dust that billowed in the wind.
