Chapter 29 Do Not Take It Down

Luo Jiu stood patiently in front of Rong Yu's tent, waiting. Even an emperor shouldn't barge into someone's tent; some privacy must be respected.

After a short while, a page came out and said to Luo Jiu, "Your Majesty, the young master invites you in."

The pageboy spoke in a detached tone, showing no respect whatsoever, and even carrying a hint of displeasure. He was the same pageboy who had accompanied Rong Yu on the pleasure boat last time.

Luo Jiu didn't mind the pageboy's neglect at all, nodded, and went inside.

The tent was somewhat dimly lit. Rong Yu sat under a candle, engrossed in a book. He gave the impression of a refined gentleman, unparalleled in the world.

Rong Yu heard the noise and looked up. Seeing Luo Jiu approaching, he nodded to him and said, "Your Majesty."

"Young Master Rongyu, do you have some free time? Please take a look at this little kitten for me." Luo Jiu quickly stepped forward and placed the kitten on Rongyu's table.

Rong Yu put down the book in her hand, lifted the kitten's injured leg and looked at it for a while, then asked the page to bring the first-aid kit.

"Where did Your Majesty find this?" Rong Yu asked Luo Jiu while tending to the kitten's wounds.

"In the woods. It's funny, I was hoping to catch a few pheasants so I wouldn't leave empty-handed. Who knew this little thing would run into me?" Luo Jiu finished speaking, then chuckled.

"Well, we bumped into each other, it's fate. Let's take good care of her."

After listening, Rong Yu smiled and said:

"This kitten escaped from somewhere and got bitten. It might have some leg problems for the future, but it won't affect its daily walking. It's just not very aesthetically pleasing."

“Hmm…” Luo Jiu said, “Alright then, thank you very much, young master. You truly deserve to be called a divine physician; you can heal not only people but also animals.”

Rong Yu smiled but said nothing, just looking at her gently.

"I must apologize to you, young master. I didn't mean to use a false name when I attended your banquet earlier. It was really inconvenient," Luo Jiu said apologetically.

"No need to apologize, I understand."

"Oh, right." Luo Jiu seemed to remember something and hurriedly took off the red string of the Buddhist prayer beads in her hand, saying, "After returning home, I felt that it was really inappropriate to just take these prayer beads like this. A gentleman does not take what others cherish. Now I'm returning them to their rightful owner."

Luo Jiu shook the red rope in her hand and put it back into Rong Yu's hand.

He yielded, yet refused. He said:

"This is a gift because we are destined to meet. There's no need to feel guilty. If you feel it's impolite, you can return it." Rong Yu pondered for a moment and smiled.

"This humble subject thinks Your Majesty's jade hairpin is very fine. May I have it?"

"You mean this?" Luo Jiu asked, pulling the hairpin from her hair.

Seeing Rong Yu nod, Luo Jiu placed the hairpin in Rong Yu's hand. She then waved the red string in her hand and said, "So, this is for me?"

"Mm," Rong Yu said with a smile. Then she took Luo Jiu's hand and personally put the red string Buddhist beads on Luo Jiu's wrist, which looked very beautiful.

Then, looking at Luo Jiu with doting affection, he said, "You're not allowed to take it off this time."

"What are you doing!"

Suddenly, a voice came from behind. Luo Jiu turned around and saw Gu Muchen standing at the exit, looking at them with an unfriendly gaze.

Having finally escaped a group of sycophantic ministers, they arrived just a little late. Their own young emperor is already having illicit affairs with others; he's really getting on in years.

Seeing that Gu Muchen seemed unhappy, Luo Jiu was also a little confused. "What's wrong with you? Why are you so angry?"
