Chapter 33 Ambush

Luo Jiu was completely unaware that, in Gu Muchen's eyes, Luo Jiu's flattery was like that of a little fangirl praising her sweetheart, which greatly satisfied Gu Muchen's vanity.

However, Gu Muchen didn't know why he always wanted to compare Luo Jiu to a cute little animal or a little girl.

Yes, little girl. Even though she knows the emperor is a boy.

Gu Muchen ignored Luo Jiu's praise and rode his horse to the spot where the eagle had fallen, a smile playing on his lips.

Seeing that Gu Muchen ignored her, Luo Jiu's favorability rating kept increasing. Even a small mosquito bite is still meat! So she became increasingly oblivious to the fact that she was flattering him.

Seeing that Gu Muchen was aiming again, a pheasant fell to the ground a moment later.

Luo Jiu praised, "Uncle, you're absolutely accurate! Your bag must be overflowing."

"Hmm?" Gu Muchen turned to look at her. Did she really intend to trick her prey into fooling those old guys?

Seeing Gu Muchen's unreadable expression, Luo Jiu knew he probably thought she was trying to lie to him again, so she quickly explained, "I just thought you could leave it with me so you wouldn't have to worry about not having enough space. Don't worry, I definitely won't lie to you about the prey this time. This is the Imperial Uncle's heroic seal!"

Perhaps Luo Jiu's flattery struck a chord with him, for Gu Muchen beckoned to Luo Jiu and said:

"come over."

Luo Jiu responded and hurriedly ran over.

"Does Your Majesty not know how to use a bow and arrow?" Gu Muchen became interested in Luo Jiu again.

“Hmm…” Luo Jiu hesitated for a moment, then said apologetically, “It’s still possible to pull it open, but it’s hard to aim at the prey.”

"Come here." Gu Muchen beckoned to Luo Jiu again, then patted his horse's back.

"Hmm?" In the past? To ride a horse with him?

[Bingo! Congratulations, Master! At this rate, you'll be able to complete the mission soon! Hooray!]

Okay.

Luo Jiu slowly climbed down from her horse. She saw a slender hand appear in front of her, radiating a warm glow in the sunlight.

Looking up, she saw Gu Muchen looking at Luo Jiu with a faint smile.

Luo Jiu placed her hand on it and felt as if she were enveloped by a warm, large hand. In a moment, she was already sitting down in front of Gu Muchen.

"Do you see that deer?" Gu Muchen asked in a low voice.

The two were standing so close that the hot breath from the person behind them was blowing directly onto the back of Luo Jiu's ears. It tickled, and her ears turned mostly red in a moment.

"Hmm..." Upon hearing the voice, Luo Jiu focused her attention on the place Gu Muchen had indicated.

A sika deer was hidden among the branches of a tree, munching on wild grass, completely unaware that a hunter was approaching.

Gu Muchen picked up the bow, placed Luo Jiu's hand on it, and forcefully drew back the bow.

With a "whoosh," the arrow flew out.

Surprisingly, the sika deer did not fall to the ground, but the horse that Luo Jiu was riding suddenly went berserk, spinning wildly forward and crashing into something.

With a "thud," the horse fell to the ground, an arrow lodged in its tail.

In the blink of an eye, the deer had vanished.

The woods were eerily quiet. The only sound was the rustling of leaves in the wind.

Even though Luo Jiu is usually oblivious, she now noticed that something was wrong with her surroundings.

"Could there be an assassin?!" After watching too many soap operas, Luo Jiu's first thought was this.

Gu Muchen's face immediately darkened as he looked around. They were still a long way from the camp.

He whispered to Luo Jiu, "We might be ambushed. Hold on tight!"
