Chapter 36 Revealing the True Identity

Gu Muchen then realized that Luo Jiu's fever was due to catching a chill and being exposed to wind.

At that moment, he didn't have time to think about whether his behavior was proper; since they were both men, there was no need to be so particular. He quickly reached out and pulled off her clothes to dry them.

Luo Jiu was still complaining about the heat, her hands and feet restless. Gu Muchen reached out, but she scratched him several times.

"Xiao Jiu, you have the temperament of a kitten. You're such a grown-up and you still like to scratch people!" Gu Muchen murmured.

"Sweetie, if you don't change your wet clothes, your fever won't go down." Gu Muchen held Luo Jiu's hand, as if coaxing a child.

Gu Muchen was stunned. Could it be that the little emperor he had carefully taught and nurtured for so many years had actually turned into a little girl?

Luo Jiu still felt very hot, and without anyone restraining her, she was recklessly tearing at her clothes.

Gu Muchen was brought back to his senses by Luo Jiu's voice, but he still couldn't believe it. He reached out and touched Luo Jiu's lower body... Well, now he was completely convinced.

This time, they couldn't take off Luo Jiu's inner garment. Gu Muchen dragged Luo Jiu to the fireside, took off her outer garment, and put it on a rack to dry. He then laid his own outer robe, which had already been dried, on the ground, placed Luo Jiu on it, and wrapped her up.

Perhaps because she had used up her last bit of strength, Luo Jiu didn't make much noise when she was put on the platform.

The dry firewood crackled and popped as it burned in the fire. Luo Jiu, drawn by the warmth, slowly approached; he was fast asleep.

Gu Muchen was wide awake, sitting by the fire, staring blankly at Luo Jiu's sleeping face.

The features that were usually deliberately emphasized gradually disappeared after being soaked in the river, leaving only Luo Jiu's original clean face.

With her arched willow-leaf eyebrows, high nose bridge, and a pair of clever and lively almond-shaped eyes, along with two small dimples that appear when she smiles, she looks like an exceptionally beautiful young girl.

Gu Muchen never dared to imagine that one day, when he closed his eyes, a person's image would appear in his mind.

Now, without closing his eyes, he was simply spacing out. Luo Jiu's voice and appearance were constantly appearing in his mind.

He didn't understand what was wrong with him. When he found out that Luo Jiu had kept it from him, lied to him, and that Luo Jiu was a girl, his first reaction wasn't anger at being deceived, but relief.

I felt fortunate. I thought to myself, she's so cute, she should be a girl.

Gu Muchen chuckled softly, then turned to see Luo Jiu still fast asleep, oblivious to the fact that her identity had just been exposed. She was smacking her lips and sleeping soundly.

Gu Muchen smiled, sat down, and reached out to feel Luo Jiu's forehead. The fever had subsided, and her face had returned to normal, no longer flushed.

The night was still and silent.

By the firelight, Gu Muchen stared blankly at Luo Jiu's sleeping face, and then his heart began to beat faster than usual.

What's causing this inexplicable flutter in my heart? My father said that when I meet someone I like, my heart beats faster without me even realizing it. Is this what my father meant by liking someone?

So this is what liking someone is.
