Chapter 61 Heart-Connecting Gu

After the envoy from the Southern Kingdom caused trouble in the main hall, the imperial guards imprisoned him in the post station, heavily guarded, awaiting his fate.

Gu Muchen arrived at the post station alone. He pushed open the door and saw Si Nanyin, still wearing a purple gauze dress, sitting in front of the tea table with two cups of tea in front of her, still steaming.

"Please sit. I thought you would be able to come in a few more days, I didn't expect it to be so soon. I'm sorry I only have tea.

Si Nanyin spoke with a smile, sounding very familiar, as if she didn't care at all about Gu Muchen's arrival, and was just meeting a long-lost friend.

Following Si Nanyin's words, Gu Muchen sat down and finished the hot tea on the coffee table in one gulp.

"The Regent is indeed a straightforward man. Aren't you afraid I'll put poison in your tea?" Si Nanyin's smile deepened.

Gu Muchen showed no fear upon hearing Si Nanyin's words, but coldly said, "Hand over the antidote."

Si Nanyin did not answer Gu Muchen's question, but instead continued speaking to herself:

"Did you know that in our southern lands, every woman, from the moment she becomes conscious, must raise a kind of Gu worm? She feeds it every day, offering it her essence and blood, and using her body as nourishment."

At this point, Si Nanyin paused, then asked, "Do you know what it feels like to have Gu worms crawling inside you, gnawing on your own flesh and blood?"

As if knowing that Gu Muchen would not answer, Si Nanyin muttered to herself, "It's worse than death."

At this moment, Si Nanyin had completely lost the allure and elegance she possessed during their first meeting. Her once pretty face gradually contorted as she spoke.

After a moment, Si Nanyin softened her tone and said, "This Gu is the Heart-to-Heart Gu, also known as the Mother-Child Gu. It is extremely difficult to cultivate this Gu, but every woman in the Southern Kingdom must cultivate it. Because it has a very beautiful legend."

Legend has it that if a woman from the Southern Kingdom can raise a "Heart-Binding Gu" (a type of gu-like insect) to adulthood, she will receive ancestral blessings and meet a man with whom she can spend her life. If she implants this Gu into her beloved's body, he will never leave her for eternity.

Having said that, Si Nanyin noticed that Gu Muchen's teacup was empty, so she quickly picked up the teapot, refilled it, and said:

"I'm so sorry, I got a little too excited. I've never said these things before in all these years. I've been holding it in for too long."

After saying that, he continued, "You must be very surprised as to why I kept saying I liked you, but I planted the Gu on Luo Xiaoran."

Si Nanyin looked at Gu Muchen and gave him a very strange smile.

"That's all because of you."

Gu Muchen frowned, but before he could react, he heard Si Nanyin giggling uncontrollably.

"It is true that the Zi Gu can be planted in the person you love, but that person must also love you and be willing to give everything for you."

"Luo Xiaoran is the cousin you 'accidentally' met at the temple that day, right?"

What cousin? Even if you two are very close, you wouldn't peel crabs for someone or serve them like that, would you?

The way you look at her isn't how you look at a younger sister at all. Her eyes are filled with doting affection and love—could she really just be looking at a younger sister?

"As expected... I checked, and you don't have any relatives at all, so where did this cousin come from?"

At this point, Si Nanyin could no longer maintain her composure; her voice became sharp and accusatory. After a moment, she regained her composure and said:

Do you think I'm that easy to fool?

"Where is the antidote?" Gu Muchen seemed like a heartless block of wood, helpless and without the slightest emotional fluctuation in the face of Si Nanyin's question.
