Chapter 80 Rongyu's Confession

Ever since I can remember, I've known that I'm different from others, at least in that I have a shorter lifespan.

The neighbor's children can always leave their houses and play freely and happily. But I am never allowed to step out of the house, not even to stand up.

That unpleasant-tasting Chinese medicine was always placed on the table with each of my three meals. Every time I wanted to refuse to drink the medicine, I was always met with my mother's tearful and self-reproachful gaze, and I had no choice but to pick up the medicine bowl.

After he turned four, his father sent him to his close friend, the Valley Master of the Dark Forest, to be taken in as a disciple.

To outsiders, the master has a prestigious reputation, often referred to as a reincarnation of Hua Tuo (a legendary Chinese physician). But in Xiao Rongyu's eyes, he's just a rascal who loves to drink, has terrible cooking skills, and doesn't do any proper work.

At her father's request, Xiao Rong had to strip naked every day and soak in a tub of brown medicinal water. While she was becoming dizzy from the steam, she had to remain clear-headed so that the old rascal could come and check the prescription at any time.

And so, ten years passed as before. Xiao Rongyu grew up into a handsome young man, as refined as a gentle breeze and as bright as the moon. His smile could make a young girl blush. The only flaw was that he still couldn't stand up.

After growing up, Rong Yu bid farewell to his master and, with a wheelchair, a medicine box, and a page, began to travel down the mountain.

Then, he met the only girl in his life who would ever make his heart flutter.

At first, I was drawn to the phrase "the mist rises from the Yunmeng Marsh" by the Yunmeng Lake. I thought he was a talented young man and wanted to befriend him; but I never expected that he would turn out to be a beautiful young woman whose talent was no less than that of a man.

This is probably what they mean by love at first sight.

Seeing how fascinated she was by the red string prayer beads on her wrist, he didn't hesitate to take them off and give them to her.

Although that red string was the only keepsake her mother had given her.

But when I saw her and Gu Muchen during the hunt, I knew that she would probably never belong to me.

The way she looked at Gu Muchen was different from how she looked at others; her eyes held the stars.

Later, whether it was taking his heart's blood or cutting off his finger to make a bone flute for her, he did it all willingly. He only hoped that she would be safe, happy, and free from illness and disaster.

Since we can't be the closest of kin, being the best of confidants is fine too. As long as she holds even a tiny place for me in her heart.

After I die, I hope that there will still be a woman in this world who remembers, "Oh, there was once someone who loved you so deeply."

After luring out the Gu worms, he left a letter and quietly departed, returning to the Valley of the Underworld.

This time, I didn't bring anything back from joining the WTO, but I did lose my heart. However, I don't regret it.

But to my surprise, a month later, I saw her again, dressed in a light gauze dress, looking beautiful and charming.

She brought a bottle of pills, saying they could treat her leg injury and allow her to stand up again.

However, she knew perfectly well that she had probably been deceived by some quack doctor. Her master had once said that unless she had an extraordinary stroke of luck, she had no hope of ever standing up again in this lifetime.

Looking into her hopeful eyes, I didn't want to interrupt her. I could only respond with a smile.

She is much more cheerful and radiant than before. Seeing the deep love in the eyes of those around her makes her realize that she is happy, and that is enough.

The next morning, they left. They left a letter in the bedroom, along with the red string with Buddhist prayer beads…
