Chapter 30 Standoff

The little gray cat on the table even meowed in response.

Luo Jiu glanced at the kitten, then looked at Gu Muchen and smiled ingratiatingly, but Gu Muchen's face darkened even more.

This man's ever-changing expression is probably impossible to appease. Seeing that Rong Yu had already bandaged the kitten, Luo Jiu immediately had the urge to escape.

Luo Jiu whispered, "I suppose Imperial Uncle has something to discuss with Young Master Rongyu, so I'll head out first."

After saying that, before the two could react, he grabbed the kitten on the table, whose big cat eyes were wide open, and flew away.

Rong Yu watched Luo Jiu flee at top speed and chuckled softly.

He turned the wheel by hand, walked to the tea table, poured two cups of tea, and placed them in front of him. He said to Gu Muchen:

"Your Highness, if you have nothing else to do, would you do me the honor of having a cup of tea?"

Seeing that Luo Jiu left quickly, Gu Muchen didn't dare to go and grab her, and walked towards Rong Yu.

"Lord Suwen enjoys drinking tea. This tea is Putuo Buddha Tea, picked from Mount Putuo, and brewed with water from the Heavenly Lake on the snow mountain. Do you like it?" Rong Yu asked with a faint smile.

"Very good, the tea is fragrant and refreshing. Young master is a connoisseur of tea," Gu Muchen said indifferently.

"His Majesty just came over to ask me to treat the little gray cat's leg. Your Excellency need not worry." Rong Yu refilled the teacup that Gu Muchen had just finished drinking.

"Oh?" Gu Muchen looked up at Rong Yu and said, "It is said that you gave the Emperor the Buddhist prayer beads that you have carried with you for many years. Children like to play with them, but this is really inappropriate. I will have someone bring you the prayer beads in a while."

"No need. Since it has been given to the Emperor, it belongs to the Emperor. There is no reason to ask for it back," Rong Yu replied with a smile.

After a moment, Rongyu added, "His Majesty seems to be quite afraid of you."

These words struck a nerve with Gu Muchen. His already indifferent face became even more expressionless.

That heartless little thing, all she does is talk back all day long. I've worked so hard to review her memorials and handle her affairs, and in the end, she doesn't appreciate it at all. Instead, she's always causing me trouble and testing my limits.

Thinking this to himself, he still wanted to save face, so he said tactfully, "Your Majesty is still a child at heart. Perhaps she has done something wrong and is afraid that I will punish her."

"Hmm..." Rong Yu nodded with a smile and said, "His Majesty is a bit playful."

"Young Master must be tired after a long day, so I won't disturb your rest any longer. I'll take my leave." Gu Muchen was worried about Luo Jiu, fearing she might cause any more trouble, so he left after a short while.

Rong Yu sat back down where she had been reading, but she couldn't concentrate on the book anymore. She rubbed the jade hairpin she had just tricked into giving her and stared blankly at her legs.

...

On this side, Luo Jiu calmly came out of Rongyu's tent and hurriedly ran to her own tent to find Yueying.

This kitten is really too dirty. I didn't notice it before, but now when I want to pet it, I just can't bring myself to do it. I'll have to go find Yueying to wash it clean first.

Yueying brought over a basin of warm water and put the kitten in it. Yueying held the kitten's injured leg as Luo Jiu gave it a bath.

Being pampered was too comfortable for the kitten, which climbed onto Luo Jiu's hand and meowed happily incessantly.

"This little kitten is so lucky, having the most honorable His Majesty of our Great Qi bathe you." Yueying smiled gently as she stroked the cat's fur.
